Eh after floating around looking at art in here, I was like, "hye maybe I should do something"

...

So I did. :

I haven't drawn pretty much all summer, sure the occasional doodle, but nothing actually to be considered a DRAWING. :

Well I did this

Info: Used an online oekaki, with my mouse, don't know how long it took to make it.

I don't think it's too bad, I've been trying to pull away from anime for awhile and do some 'realism', if this even fits that category.

Hmm, I wanted to do something with the hair..but that's all I could think of for the moment, rah.

And the eyebrow now that I look at it...is odd, it looks kinda..alive.

And I couldn't really figure out what/ how to 'outline' the eye. xO

Any comments, blah blah blah. Shoot.

i think i've seen WAY too many eye sketches/doodles/illustration that it just doesn't cut it for me anymore. it's pretty drab, and if it's just a doodle...well, then it's just a doodle.

i do like the yellow bit you added to give the cheeks a little bit of reflected light. the eye looks really flat though, it's not shaded to give the round spherical look eyeballs should have, nor are there any reflections to show that it's a different texture from the face.

the hair is also distracting at how it frames the face...it looks like it was deliberately put there and it makes her head look squat at the top. the hair doesn't look like hair because it's all flat color, no wisps or strands or detail to show that it's hair...the face could be a mask for all we know and the hair could just be some flat background color. no shadows on where the hair overlaps the face. the eyebrow is the same thing...flat color that was scribbled on without it following her face structure. might want to draw the eyebrow in yourself if you're going to have a closeup of her eye, else it looks lazily done.

i think you could also define the eyelid a bit more, add darker shades. it's a lot of light on light colors, and the eye gets lost because of it. if you really want it to pop you're gonna want to add some dark colors around it...including eyelashes.

-eye ref

-eye ref 2

i dunno...i've seen so many variations on this that the idea is pretty dull. you're gonna have to make it spectacular if you want people to really notice. go crazy with the reflections on her eye, do some crazy detail or something. if you want to do something, go back and refine this piece. take a simple doodle and see how far you can push it...sometimes you'd be surprised at what you can do.

Insert good stuff :D

Thanks for the info.

Yeah. I'm horrible at realism. I'm not going to lie.

I originally started of with drawing realism but then anime KILLED IT.

So I have to work on it again.

Yeah, I wasn't too happy with the hair or the eyebrow. The eyebrow, eh, after I finished. I realized how crappy it looked.

As for the hair, I'll take your advice on being more detailed on it, with shading and all.

And the eye, I got so confused on how to outline it, but shall try experimenting with the darker colors. :3

I've still yet to figure this stuff out. xO

I would have used a tablet but seeing as I don't have one, nor do I have a scanner, nor a digital camera to at least take pictures, this is all I can do with a computer. An online oekaki board and a mouse.

Hopefully I can eventually get some kind of art program and be more deticated to my computer work. neutral

But I still need to work on the basics

Thanks a lot for the sources and advice :D
