Stork cribs "drop side" model are being recalled:

More than 2.1 million Canadian-made drop-side cribs have been recalled in Canada and the United States after more than 100 cases of injuries, including four deaths were reported, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Monday.

The manufacturer, British Columbia-based Stork Craft Manufacturing Inc., announced the voluntary recall of approximately 1.2 million drop-side cribs distributed in the U.S. and 968,000 distributed in Canada, the CPSC said in a news release.

Nearly 150,000 of the cribs on recall carry the Fisher-Price logo.

Health Canada, the U.S. agency and the company are aware of 110 incidents of drop-side detachment -- 67 incidents in the United States and 43 in Canada, the U.S. agency said.

Three entrapments were reported in Canada and 12 in the United States, four of them resulting in the suffocation and death of four young children.

Fall injuries ranged from concussion to bumps and bruises.

The CPSC said the cribs involved in these incidents had plastic drop-side hardware that had broken, missing, or deformed claws, connectors, tracks, or flexible tab stops; loose or missing metal spring clips; stripped screws; and/or drop-sides installed upside-down.

The recall includes Stork Craft cribs with manufacturing and distribution dates between January 1993 and October 2009.

It also includes Stork Craft cribs with the Fisher-Price logo hat have manufacturing dates between October 1997 and December 2004.

The Stork Craft cribs with the Fisher-Price logo were first sold in the U.S. in July 1998 and in Canada in September 1998.

It called on parents and caregivers to immediately stop using the recalled cribs, and contact the company -- at 1-877-274-0277 -- to receive a free repair kit.

The recalled cribs were sold at major retailers in the United States and Canada, including BJ's Wholesale Club, J.C. Penney, Kmart, Meijer, Sears, USA Baby, and Wal-Mart stores and online at Amazon.com, Babiesrus.com, Costco.com, Target.com, and Walmart.com from January 1993 through October 2009 for between $100 and $400.

The cribs were manufactured in Canada, China and Indonesia.

A Montreal-based company is recalling 70,000 car seats in Canada and 447,000 in the U.S. after at least three babies were injured due to handles coming loose.

The babies suffered bumps, bruises and a head injury.

There were no injuries in Canada, but manufacturer Dorel has brought it to the attention of Transport Canada, and expects it to soon issue a press release.

"It's a very minor situation because it only affects the carrying handle," Dorel spokesperson Rick Leckner told CTV.ca.

"There is no problem using the car seat in the car."

The American division of the company has received 77 complaints that the handle easily falls off.

The recall affects a variety of different brands and model numbers, including Safety 1st, Cosco, Eddie Bauer and Disney. The affected seats were manufactured between January 6, 2008 and April 6, 2009. The manufacturing date can be found on the car seat and the box.

Leckner said parents can order a repair kit which should arrive within a week. Parents should avoid holding the seat by the handle, because it could fall.

"In the meantime, we're asking people to carry it as one might carry a sack of potatoes, put your arms around it," he explained.

Nearly two weeks after the Consumer Product Safety Commission warned parents that over-the-shoulder baby slings can be deadly for children younger than 4 months old, San Diego-based Infantino LLC is pulling two of its carriers -- SlingRider and Wendy Bellissimo -- off the market altogether.

The deaths of at least three infants prompted the original recall of more than 1 million baby slings sold throughout North America.

"Our top priority is the safety of infants whose parents and caregivers use our products," Infantino's President Jack Vresics, said in a statement today.

"Infantino is announcing a voluntary replacement program for the Infantino SlingRider and Wendy Bellissimo infant baby carriers to address concerns raised by the Consumer Product Safety Commission," Vresics said.

The CPSC urges consumer to "stop using the recalled slings immediately and contact Infantino to receive a free replacement product."

"It does not matter how old your baby is at this point with the Infantino sling," said CPSC's Scott Wolfson. "Do not use it. This sling places the baby in a very deep part of the product," Wolfson said. "What is so dangerous is when the fabric covers nose and mouth or when baby is turned into the body of the mother and the airway is restricted."

Mother Lisa Cochran told ABC News she was shopping at a Costco when she looked inside the Infantino sling draped over her chest and realized something was wrong.

"We walked out to the car, by the time I got to the car and took him out, he was not a normal color," Cochran said.

She called police but the child could not be revived.

"I hope nobody has to go through what me and my family have been through."

Cochran is now suing Infantino, contending a design flaw was responsible for the death of her baby.

Her attorney Brian Whitehead said, "Its design is such that when a baby is in the sling, it causes the baby to curl in on itself, causing the baby not to be able to breathe."

Just about two weeks ago, Infantino released a statement to ABC News saying it believed the SlingRider was a "safe product."

In October 2009, Don Mays of Consumer Reports magazine was so concerned about Infantino slings that he wrote a letter to the CPSC, drawing attention to three known deaths and urging the agency for a recall.

So what has taken so long ?

"A case needs to be established," Wolfson said.

"Incidents need to be investigated. And we were able to reach a point with the company without having to go to court, without a protracted case, that there was a recognition that there was a risk of suffocation with the product. And the time is now to act."

Wolfson said the agency also has "additional investigations of other products that are underway."

The recall announcement lists that the slings were sold at "Walmart, Burlington Coat Factory, Target, Babies "R" Us, BJ's Wholesale, various baby and children's stores and other retailers nationwide, and on the web at Amazon.com."
