Okay, for a while now my mom has had problems with her left leg. She says it hurts. She says it throbs with pain. She says the pain is the most around her thigh, and also on the lower part of her leg, under her knee. She says the pain travels through her whole leg and that the pain is so bad that it wakes her up in the night. She went to get it X-rayed, but the results haven't come in yet. She's been saying how bad it hurts. When her leg is held up (on a stool, exercise ball - she's using it now-, etc) and she moves it back and forth, she says the pain eases up. She says her leg also feels better when she's in a bath. For pain she takes Tylenol (extra strength) and Motrin, and she says she takes them often because the pain is so bad. But even when she has her leg resting on something and she moves it back and forth, the pain is still there.

What could be wrong with her leg? Any suggestions?

*She's going to see a different doctor about it.

*I'm thinking that maybe the circulation in her leg is somehow being decreased, like maybe a vein in her leg falls asleep or something. But since I'm not a doctor, I'm not sure.

Circulation does sound possible.

I don't know if it could be a nerve maybe? Nerve pains tends to be very sharp. When she gets it elevated it could also relieve pressure on the nerve.

But I am about as lost as you.

Unfortunately, I can't help, but I hope it gets diagnosed soon, it sounds awful!

That's not exactly the right place, but possibly sciatica.

Well, her doctor did say something about her sciatic nerve a while ago, but that was when the pain was more by her butt. But she says the pain shifted from her butt to her leg. surprised

i thought sciatica too when i read or indeed a trapped nerve if the nerve has been caugjt between the bones and nipped it can often lead to a similar pain i think you are just gonna have to wait and see what the doc says try a nice deep heat cream on the leg it tends to sooth and ease the pain

tough to say right now. are there any visible symptoms? enlarged veins? swelling? if those came up, i would have guessed varicosis given the area and that it eased up a bit with elevation and movement. the angiogram they did should confirm that though.

don't take my word on any of it, though. i just like to watch a lot of house.

hm, easing pain when elevated or some movements make me think vasular, but other movements that cause pain and easing when soaking makes me think muscular.

when will the x-rays come back? i hope she's not in too much pain to function.

does any of your family by any chance have problems with blood clots?

Having hip problems myself, Ive never really enountered something like this. Although I would think that it could be a nerve or a number of nerves being pinched or that the cartilage (sp?) has worn down and the bones of the knee and the pelvis are rubbing together against the femur at each end respectively.....

It sounds a little like a problem I have with circulation. First thing u need to do is cut ionize salt. Is really bad for the circulation.Try to cook with Sea salt you'll see the dif. in a day. Second have her take an aspirin everyday child size. It thins out blood. Have her lay in her back with her leg propped in pillow, they have to be higher than her heart. She will see results in a couple of days it works for me. Let me know if u have any questions.^_^
