Its OK to be scared, and yes, some of the things we may be dead and gone before some of it actually takes place. The thing to really take from predictions though is that there are somethings we can help prevent (like environmental human-caused disasters) and some things that we can not.

Many predictions though don't have much of a base of when things will happen exactly and are so vague that we don't realize they were predictions of a certain event until after the fact (take Nostradamus and his prediction of the twin towers for example).

From a scientific standpoint, predictions are rarely true and when they are, it seems to be coincidence based of off natural randomness. Our brains are wired to see patterns and find reasons for cause. It is true, too, that when something bad happens that we can't explain, we search for something that may have predicted it (this is called Hindsight Bias). Of course, then afterwards we see indications everywhere (the dollar bill with the towers burning, the wing-dings 9-11 looking like an airplane and two towers, 9-11 being so similar to 9-1-1, etc).

Its interesting, but one should always take everything into consideration. Do further research. You wouldn't want to be scared over something that has no basis, right (example, the Y2K scare).

Quote:
"There's going to be a lot of reduction in car production. A lot of big cars (and SUVs) are going away. I don't see much hope in gas prices either." The prediction: They'll hit $5 per gallon in 2008.

Its already at $3.99 here in southern Indiana, and between $3.50 and $4 in Delaware. Anyone in CA? What's it there?

General motors is planning to close down the Qshawa (Ontario) truck factory in 2009
they are saying over 2600 workers in the plant will be loosing their jobs, and that isn't including the supporting smaller factories that assemble the internal parts of the vehicles. My town has one of the smaller factories that makes parts for the chevy silverado. it too will be affected.

There has been too much competition with the hybrids and more fuel efficient vehicles available. Ford apparently is having some problems as well but they are not in the news yet
