Roleplay is not required for your pets to grow, but it does show interest. Enough interest and roleplay will allow your Dragonfly to grow into the elder stage when presented during elder nominations.
The lore information here is just the basics! Please view the Ultimate Abelsia Reference List for more detailed lore.

 1. Please roleplay -as- your pet, not as an OC with it. Humans don't really exist in Di'jai; so RPing as one would not fit. 2. Please at least try to use correct grammar. I'm not a grammar nazi, but literate RPs are alot more enjoyable to read and will help your pet grow into the elder stage better than one that is not literate. 3. Follow all normal TOS, please. So, keep it PG-13 or take it off Gaia! 4. All pets should be roleplayed in Di'jai. You can find a map of Di'jai in this thread. 5. Roleplay can occur both in the shop thread, guild, or event threads. Only roleplays you can link to on Gaia count toward elder nominations. 6. If you are roleplaying in shop, please be considerate of others. 7. Please don't take grudges/anger from RPs out of RPs! It's all fictional, so please don't take it seriously. 8. No god-moding! 9. If a couple/few people get together to hold a private RP, please don't try to "butt in" on it unless they say you can join. 10. You only can roleply as the primary species or familiars found within Di'jai. Please familiarize yourself with these species and their communities.

Abelsia Abelsia is the planet on which Di'jai is located. In short, Abelsia is Earth, several thousand years in the future after a currently unknown apocalyptic event. For now, the creatures of Di’jai have not ventured past the grasslands into the desert or Abelsia behind. Information applicable to the creatures of LoA is listed below. Further information on the rest of Abelsia and the remnants of humanity will be released in the future.
Di’jai Di'jai is an enormous peninsula that is home to several intelligent species, namely the dragonfly, bearibou, lupeus, and shilon. The peninsula itself has four distinctive zones: the desert, the grasslands, the forest, and the mountains. The only existing human structures within Di’jai comprise the ancient, abandoned city of Chindril and the Ashinari camp known as Tiwan.
Size and Location Di’jai is the Arabian Peninsula far into the future. The rivers and lakes that have contributed to the revegetation of the peninsula are ancient ones, revitalized by unknown sources.
Climate The climate of Di’jai is subtropical humid, shifting toward arid at the northern end of the peninsula. Di’jai does experience rainfall, but the levels are mild and precipitation is focused primarily on the forested region. Winters are warm with only a slight temperature dip, and summers are hot but not intolerable. Most of Di’jai does not normally experience snow. Occasionally during the winter, the tops of the mountains will be capped in snow, but it usually melts within a day.
Water Marks There are numerous lakes, rivers, and ponds throughout the forest, mountains, and grassland of Di’jai, but the largest of these are Lake Villis and Arowhead Lake.
Lake Villis is the largest lake in Di’jai by far, so large at its widest point that when standing on one shore one cannot see the further shore. It is also so deep that it is currently impossible for anyone to reach its bottom, and this had lead to many local legends within Chindril.
Arrowhead Lake lies within the Asfiernas Mountains and is frequently visited by the bearibou. It is an unusually warm, relatively shallow lake with little wildlife, and as such, it is a place of permanent peace within the tumultuous bearibou society.
The Desert The desert is the only border separating the beings of Di’jai from the vast unknown of Abelsia and the remnants of humanity beyond. It is unknown exactly how far the desert extends past the peninsula, and nothing lives within it. However, it is a savage creature in its own right. It is an enormous sand desert with no relent. Ferocious winds tear at would-be travelers, and the sun pelts their heads with no respite. If trying to push past the desert into Di’jai from the world beyond, the temperature and viciousness of the desert inexplicably escalates, and the distance of the desert itself seems to grow only larger. The only creatures from Di’jai who are known to have crossed the desert are three dragonfly known as Drachus, Anilla, and Harrow.
The Grasslands The grasslands of Di’jai are the vast plains which separate the forest from the desert. This grassland becomes increasingly arid the closer one gets to the desert. The shilon call the grasslands their home, making refuge out of the large rocky outcroppings that are scattered around the plains.
The Field of Remembrance The Field of Remembrance is where the nomadic, human Ashinari people first encountered the dragonfly on the grasslands. Never encountering humans before, the dragonfly were a peaceful people, and many were killed on either side of the fight before the Ashinari finally relented. The dragonfly elders later raised a memorial in the field to honor the fallen, and the field was transformed into a sacred place.
Tiwan Tiwan is the destitute Ashinari internment camp established by the dragonfly following their surrender in the Field of Remembrance. It is located at the very edge of the grasslands near the forest closest to Chindril. The dragonfly maintain a militaristic presence in the camp, disallowing the Ashinari exit. Conditions have been rapidly deteriorating.
Asfiernas Mountains The Asfiernas Mountains are a large range of rock-strewn mountains on the west, northwest side of the peninsula, still within borders of the forest, with an intricate cave system running their length. The bearibou call these mountains and caves their home, and they deny entrance to the deepest reaches of the caves to anyone other than the elder bearibou.
Sivil Mountains The Sivil Mountains are a very small group of mountains on the southeast side of the peninsula. Dragonflies cast out from Chindril often find their ways to the mountain for refuge, and because of this, the mountains are becoming a haven for unscrupulous activity.
The Forest The forest of Di’jai is home to the dragonfly. No one knows when the rivers and lakes appeared to contribute to the forest’s development, but dragonfly have long discovered evidence that the peninsula was an arid place not long before their awakening. It has been observed that the forest grows noticeably every year and will eventually overtake the grasslands, the desert, and perhaps much of the world beyond.
The forest of Di’jai most closely resembles that of a subtropical mixed forest, such as the forest of the Applachian Mountains in the present day United States. However, due to the unknown circumstances of the forest’s sudden development and, the other, non-sentient creatures of the forest tend to be larger than normal. Imagine giant bears or boars, both of which can be violent even to dragonfly, bearibou, lupeus, or shilon if provoked.
Ys’fonir Ys’fonir is the Great Tree of Di’jai. It is exactly as it sounds - a seemingly ancient, behemoth tree near the center of the forest, just north west of Chindril. Supposedly, the Arien’efia first appeared at the foot of this tree. While the dragonfly do not have many rituals or superstitions, they do honor Ys’fonir as the heart of the forest, and on the rare occasion a dragonfly dies, their body is interred beneath the tree’s roots to give it back to the forest.
Chindril Much like a lot of Di’jai, the origins of Chindril are unknown. All is known is that the huge city awaited the dragonfly as soon as they began awakening, as if planned. While it is a city of many technological advancements centuries ahead of the dragonfly’s current knowledge, it holds a symbiotic relationship with the forest around it in a way that the dragonfly cannot currently understand. Most dragonfly live within this city, and many dragonfly spend their lives striving to understand and explore it further, progressing the dragonfly’s technological knowledge far ahead of the other species of Di’jai. As consequence, dragonfly society is also rapidly advancing.

After the Earth fell and became Abelsia, the dragonfly appeared in the peninsula that would become known as Di'jai, awoken by the Arien'efia from deep comas in caverns beneath the city of Chindril. It is believed by Ber and most elders that the dragonfly are meant to be the successors of the world, that after the humans came so close to destroying the planet, Abelsia formed a new sentient, highly intelligent species to populate it. This is a theory that the Arien'efia also perpetuate, even though their own origins are unknown.
As you can see from the size charts, the dragonfly in their beast forms are much larger than dogs or even wolves, especially the elder stages. Please keep this in mind when roleplaying. Dragonfly also age at a slower rate than humans, so that they do not reach physical and emotional maturity until they are around 30-32 years old. At the time they reach maturity, dragonfly stop aging - meaning they are immortal. However, they are not impervious. They can still die from wounds or illnesses.
Dragonfly mostly live in Chindril and the forest areas surrounding it, although they have been spotted all throughout Di'jai.
Elders Elders are special - they are unlike "normal" dragonfly. They have a beast form just like a traditional dragonfly, yet they also have a second form, that of an elf. An elder's elven form is slightly taller than the average human, with more cat-like features and pointed ears.
Becoming an elder is a special process. It is when powerful adult dragonfly gain the ability to transform into their elven forms. Usually, this ability is gained when the powerful adult dragonfly is placed under stress, but talented dragonfly have been known to gain it through practice and tutelage from other elders. After the dragonfly's first elven transformation, their beast form is altered, becoming larger and more threatening. The dragonfly also usually develops new elemental abilities. The specific element of their abilities depends on their genetic history, and on the same token, this elemental affinity will be passed on to any of their children who also become elders.
Gods & Goddesses Gods and Goddesses are immensely powerful dragonfly who, when faced with death, ascended to a new form so that they may abandon their failing body. Their true form is one of pure energy, and they only can gain a physical body by possessing a lesser creature. When they possess another creature, the host is transformed into the god's beast form, and its mind is overtaken by the god's. The god's beast form is even larger and more ferocious than that of an elder; however, their overall features remain similar to that of their previous body. Gods retain the ability to transform into elves as well, as long as they have an active host, although their elf form remains unchanged. It is believed that gods are truly immortal and impervious.

A hundred years after the dragonfly began awakening beneath Chindril, the Bearibou were discovered by dragonfly who adventured into the mountains. Unlike the dragonfly, who were carefully awakened by the Arien'efia into the prepared city of Chindril, the Bearibou did not have caretakers. They woke beneath the mountains seemingly without guidance, inheriting only a cave system stretching the length of the mountain range. It is unknown exactly when the bearibou began awakening, just that they awoke sometime after the appearance of the dragonfly. While they are sentient and have human-levels of intelligence like the dragonfly, their society is primitive and often can be tumultuous due to the age of their species and the chaos of their birth.
Please view the size charts for an idea on bearibou size. Like dragonfly, the bearibou also reach maturity at an age older than that of human maturity. However, unlike the dragonfly, bearibou are not immortal. Their lifespan is exceedingly long compared to humans - about a thousand years - but they do eventually age and die. From the point of maturity until about 900 years into their lives, bearibou maintain a static, seemingly ageless form. At around age 900, a bearibou's body will begin to break down much like an elderly human. Only bearibou gods are truly immortal and impervious.
Bearibou are mostly found in or around the mountains of Di'jai.
Elders Elder bearibou are very similar to elder dragonfly except their humanoid appearance and the way in which they become elders. Elder bearibou a beast form just like a traditional bearibou, yet they also have a second, humanoid form. Where the dragonfly humanoid form is elven in appearance, the bearibou humanoid form is far from elven. Towering a good two or more feet even above the dragonfly, the bearibou humanoid form is more akin to a giant, with a thicker frame and further set, brutish features.
Also like the dragonfly, becoming a bearibou elder is a special process. It is when powerful adult bearibou gain the ability to transform into their humanoid forms. This is not a process that can occur naturally for the bearibou, no matter how much stress is applied. Bearibou only can become elders after rigorous decades if not centuries of practice, usually with an elder dragonfly mentor. This training is hard pressured on every bearibou, given their finite lifespan. To die without ever becoming an elder is considered a shame, especially if dying from old age. After the bearibou's first humanoid transformation, their beast form is altered, becoming larger and more threatening. The bearibou also usually develops new elemental abilities. The specific element of their abilities depends on their genetic history, and on the same token, this elemental affinity will be passed on to any of their children who also become elders.
Gods & Goddesses There are many similarities between dragonfly and bearibou gods. Gods and Goddesses are immensely powerful elder bearibou who, when faced with death, ascended to a new form so that they may abandon their failing body. Gods retain the ability to transform into humanoid forms as well, as long as they have an active host, although their humanoid form remains unchanged. It is believed that gods are truly immortal and impervious.
A note of interest is that dragonfly gods can possess and control any bearibou who haven't transformed into elders. A common belief shared amongst the bearibou is that any child or adult bearibou who plays host to a dragonfly god can easily become an elder. Unfortunately, a bearibou hosting a dragonfly god will experience rapid mental deterioration and an increased rate of aging.

As the dragonfly ventured from Chindril toward the desert, they encountered yet another new species living on the very edge of the forest - the lupeus. Much like the bearibou, the lupeus do not have caretakers. They did not even inherit a cave system. Where they came from or how is completely unknown. The lupeus are another sentient species with human-like intelligence; however, they retain far more animalistic tendencies than the dragonfly or bearibou, and their society is even more primitive than their mountainous cousins, centered around a community and tribal rituals.
The lupeus mature slowly, reaching full adulthood at around 25 years old. The oldest lupeus claims to be 350 years old with no further sign of aging. Whether this means that the lupeus are immortal or simply have a lifespan longer than that of the bearibou remains to be seen.
Elders Elder lupeus are very similar to elder dragonfly with a differing humanoid appearance. Elder lupeus have a beast form just like a traditional lupeus, yet they also have a second, humanoid form. Where the dragonfly humanoid form is elven in appearance, the lupeus humanoid form is definitively human. Shorter, sturdier, and hairier than their dragonfly counterparts, the only difference between a lupeus elder humanoid form and a human are their slightly elongated canines.
Also like the dragonfly, becoming a lupeus elder is a special process. It is when powerful adult lupeus gain the ability to transform into their humanoid forms. This can occur naturally for the lupeus when placed under stress, or the lupeus can train for the ability. Given the lupeus’s seeming immortality and their society’s superstitious nature, becoming an elder is more of a mystical adventure than one of practice, with the adult bearibou being the focus of many rituals and other traditions when their path to elderhood seems possible.
After the lupeus’s first humanoid transformation, their beast form is altered, becoming larger and more threatening. The lupeus also usually develops new elemental abilities. The specific element of their abilities depends on their genetic history, and on the same token, this elemental affinity will be passed on to any of their children who also become elders. Given their society, the elemental affinity of an elder usually determines their new role within lupeus society.
Gods While no lupeus have yet become gods, it is suspected that the lupeus elders do have the ability to ascend in time.

After finding the lupeus, the dragonfly who encountered them were told of the shilon - another sentient, intelligent species living on the vast grasslands of Di’jai. Like the lupeus, the shilon do not have caretakers, and their origins are completely unknown. While intelligent, the shilon are incredibly animalistic, living in communities similar to lions with whom they share forms.
The lupeus mature quickly, reaching full adulthood at around 15 years old. Their lifespan also is incredibly short in comparison to the other species of Di’jai, living only 80-100 years. It is theorized by dragonfly elders that this short lifespan is why no shilon have become elders, as it does not allow the shilon enough time to develop the ability to transform.
