The tall colt scrambled out of the river and shook himself off thoroughly. Relatively warm though the air around him was, this was not a good time of year to stay wet for too long. Having got the worst of the water off himself, the brindled youth winced and peered down at his leg. A moment later, he scowled. There was some blood there and a shallow cut but not the deep wound he was sure he’d felt a rock tear as he struggled to get out of the icy flow some way back. Shaking his head to himself, the brindled colt gave the cut a good licking to cleanse it.

Once he had cleared the taste of blood from his mouth with a few nibbles of grass and a gulp or two of water, he raised his head and looked about with calculating blue eyes. “Humm, well I don’t think we’re in Yisi anymore,” he murmured to nobody in particular as he gave his lanky shape another shake, trying to ignore its trembles of exhaustion and recently passed fear. So, this was D’ob then? A great nest of low-bloods from what he’d been told. Still, it would be good to see with his own eyes; provided nobody took exception to his brindled coat he should be alright.

The grass here burst with flavor and she could swear that she could even taste her dreams in it. It always lightened her heart to come here, and shadow had much to think about. This place was her safehaven, and the waterfall sounds put her at peace. She closed her ocean blue eyes and swayed with the breeze. Hearing other nequus in the distance, she opened her eyes and moved till she couldn't hear them any longer. Not telling anyone she had even come, she was not exactly thrilled at the idea of being discovered. The wind ruffled her feathers, it was slightly cool here, and she tucked them in tighter.
Her hoofbeats pounded lightly on the rivers bank as she strode out to get closer to the waterfall. Thinking about why she had come, her eyes seemed to sadden, but she banished the thoughts and proccupied herself with the color of the blue sky. It was in this matter that she stumbled upon a small and uniquely coloured colt.

The sound of hooves caught at his sharp wary ears and Dahak turned about to see who owned them. One of his kind, he was pleased to see, not a Katilenuck perhaps but at least she was a Jala. “Hello there,” he said with a pleasant smile, “who’re you?” And, because he could see little harm in it; “my name’s Dahak. I seem to be taking in impromptu holiday from my usual haunts,” he added with a snort and a toss of his head at the river. “Little crowd of Bae thought it’d be funny to shove me in way back in Yisi, only just managed to get out.”

Shadow did not really see why he treated the Bae with such disgust, she personally loved their charming nature, at least from her experience. Annoyed a little anyways for being disturbed, she was calmed by the colt's kind words. With a small bit of shyness, she pawed the ground idly, "My name is Shadow, and I think this place is much nicer than Yisi, if you give it time."

Dahak ruffled some more water out of his wings and looked about himself. “Does look quite nice here,” he said with a nod. “Very green and pleasant. Still, I shan’t be able to stay long however nice it is here, once I’ve rested and eaten a bit I’ll have to work on getting back to my tree before my parents get worried.”

He’d see the two elder Nequus heard about that little crowd of Bae. Seemed that the dislike he felt for the clear-winged things was mutual. The moment they’d laid eyes on him they’d been after him, the horrors. For some reason they seemed to think that taking on a lone Katilenuck foal made them big and strong. Internally, Dahak grinned; one day he’d have them tracked down and then they’d see what they made of the Katilenuck, of soldiers with hard hooves and snapping teeth. Oh they’d see.

She hid a smile at the foals rather gruff personality, it was somewhat laughable at his age. Shadow wasnt sure what exactly to think about this strange colt. Sensing more than he appeared, Shadow laid down. The grass tickled her sides. Not being able to squish the temptation, she motioned to Dahak. "The grass will help you dry off if you would like. What are your parents like?", she was genuinely interested in his family. Wincing, she recalled how she really had none, or none she knew of anyways, but she didn't blame anyone for it. Life was life.

Dahak sank down into the soft grass, a mildly thoughtful expression on his face as he considered what to say about his sire and dam. "They're good parents," he said eventually with a wing shrug. "Teach me things, usually manage to keep bad things from happening to me." She hadn't said anything about his tear markings or his brindles yet, did that mean she didn't know/care about his herd, or that she was clever and fishing for information? Well, either way telling her a bit more wouldn't hurt, surely.

"Mother's name is Undine, father's is Xla and I've three tree-siblings," he went on with a nod. "One sister, two brothers and there's a Bae who lives with us; took him in because he doesn't seem to have anyone else." And that was the truth, or at least most of it. "You got any family, Shadow?" As a Jala she wouldn't make a slave, of course, but if he could make a friend or an ally of her that would be no bad thing. Powerful though he'd been told his people were, it never hurt to have more people on your side especially when you were separated from those who usually protected you... Thinking of that where was Virgil? The skittish stallion had been about when he'd fallen in the river; where was he now? Damn silly thing had probably got lost.

Studying the colt, she had a dream in her minds eye of what his childhood had been like, and without really thinking about it, shoved herself in. She didn't fit obviously with his strange markings, she still seemed the odd one out, but she couldn't really help the daydream. Although his colours were somewhat strange, she remembered the odd eagle like stallion she had met earlier, and supposed his colours were really nothing compared to that creature. Although, who was she to make judgments. Perhaps her lack of judgments stemmed from the hope that none would judge her. Either way, it made her a rather understanding Nequus. Dragging herself back to the conversation, she managed to clear her voice enough to speak.

"I have no family, but I don't need your pity for it.", her eyes shielded themselves from the colt as she sought to change the conversation's direction away from herself. "Do you love your family? And what out of curiosity has been so bad that happened to you?".

The colt nodded easily to the mare’s first question, the second not registering quite yet. "Yes, I do love them. All of them can annoy me hugely at times but I still love them in the end..." Then the second question registered. Had she really just asked what he thought she had? Yes, she had. The tri-coloured colt grinned and gave his wet wings a shake to emphasise the point he was about to make.

"I think being chased and kicked about by a gang of Bae before being shoved into an icy river in the middle of winter, swept away into unfamiliar lands and nearly drowning counts as 'bad' personally," the brindled youth replied, raising his brows in amusement. “Other than that though,” he went on, settling his wings by his flanks once more, “nothing in particular. I have been most fortunate in life thus far.”

Laughing she smiled, "I suppose that would be true with any family." Smiling, she rolled over, her back lying in the grass as the scent of thyme rose around her. His markings reminded her of the sky at this angle. Legs resting to the side, she turned her head to stare at the colt, "Why don't you think of it as a grand adventure just beginning." . Now, shadow was not exactly an expert on anything really, nor did she even know about any other herds, if she were being honest, she mostly kept to herself, she couldn't help but like it that way.

“Well it’s certainly been interesting so far,” the colt said with a frown as he recalled the searing pain he had felt from his leg, which was faded now to a dull stinging sensation. “I’ve learned that I can swim which I suppose could be viewed as positive, and that sharp rocks are bad,” he went on, rising to his hooves to inspect the cut on his leg once more. It was really more of a scratch than anything else but... but he’d felt the flesh rip; he’d screamed and swallowed a lot of water, he remembered distinctly. A little scratch like that wouldn’t make him scream and then there was the blood. Though most of it had been washed away the white hair around the cut was stained slightly pink.

“Most peculiar,” the blue-eyed Jala muttered, almost forgetting Shadow’s presence as the mystery claimed his attention. The cut wasn’t even bleeding now he looked closely, not in the slightest. There was a scab over it, wet from the river but still a good solid clot. He might’ve thought he’d received a far less serious injury some days ago were it not for the pinkness of the hair and the memory of the pain. He wished he had an explanation for it, but there didn’t appear to be one; it didn’t make sense... Unless... Was it possible?

The gangly colt shook his head and looked back over at Shadow at last. “What would you say to me if I told you I cut this leg open in the river?” he asked, nodding down at the appendage. He knew what he’d say, but it seemed too incredible to be true... Shaman?
