Should band do covers of other bands songs?
  Yes!
No, those lazy bastards can write their own stuff!
Well I'm ok with it if it's a tribute...

KuroNekoSunako
La Vie en Blanc
Time After Time- Quietdrive
Also the Across the Universe soundtrack. Some of the best covers of The Beatles I've heard so far.

Oh, TOTALLY. Bono doing "I Am The Walrus", Eddie Izzard doing "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite"... wow.

Huh? Eddie Izzard? Music? What? He's other than a comedian/actor?

This I gotta check out! The man's a comedy genious, might have some musical talent as well?

I enjoy pretty much anything by Nouvelle Vague, they're a avante-garde-ish/lounge band that does covers of other bands songs with their own stylistic input, mostly stuff from the 80's. Think Richard Cheese but more along the lines of very pretty as opposed to using shock value to get attention.

They did very beautiful covers of Love Will Tear Us Apart, Teenage Kicks, Bela Lugosi's Dead, Dance With Me, and Too Drunk To ******** just to name a few.

The only way that a band can cover another bands song, is if they get the other bands permission first.
For example, Led Zeppelin was the original singer of the song called "Good times, Bad times."
Godsmack had asked if it was ok to cover that song for their greatest hit's album. That's how they had gotten ahold of his song.
Otherwise, Led Zepplin probobly would have sewed Godsmack for using his song for their #1 greatest hit, title of the album, and using it to make money.

Does any of this make sense to you??
