My family just lost a close friend and an amazing man to a drunk driving accident. He was in Florida trying to raise money for Christmas for his five children (Yes, he really had five kids) when a drunk driver flipped his vehicle over onto our friend's minivan. Hank didn't survive. His wife and children are doing as well as can be expected, but this season is a hard time to loss someone. I know that a lot of people don't like hearing the word Christmas, but that is what Hank celebrated (that is why I am using it). I wrote this while thinking about our friend, Hank. Please be honest and tell me what you think.
One moment you are here with us close and familiar, a common thread, our smiling companion, a husband, a father, and a hug for a friend in need. Now you are gone, yanked from us cruelly like a blade scoring our hearts, and leaving it raw to heal and bleed. There is no warm smile to greet us or hearty laugh to float along with our own. None of the jingling bell or holiday smells can make this stinging separation disappear. How can we celebrate Christmas without you here to hang the star on the tip top of our evergreen tree? Who else can reach it like you always do? Who will read the Christmas story while we sip our hot chocolate and realize what a miracle it is that we all get to be together again, Safe and Warm... TOGETHER. What will we do without you? Christmas won't be the same without you here; that much I know for sure, but we won't forget what you held dear and close to your heart this time of year. There was a reason for the joy and the laughter other than family and friends that were close by and dropping in just to say hi. Every time we hear your favorite carol, we'll have to smile and remember how you would always sing just a little of key so the rest of us didn't feel so bad. We will miss you more than you know, but you'll live in our hearts and memories. How could we ever forget someone like you especially at Christmas time?

*offers hot chocolate*
Christmas is always about the memories... whee Plus, everyone will be together for the Holidays anyway, right? It's best this way, so that many people can heal together.
I'm sorry for your loss.
