I chose Chikorita as my first PoKeMoN because the types I use best over-all are electrics, grass then water. Since you are a beginner, it is hard to say which you should pick. It's all about not only personal preferance but also picking one that wont frustrate you so much you end up giving up on the game. My suggestion is to pick one at random and see how you do with them on your team. Good luck!!

I picked cyndaquil! But if you really want to survive you probably should pick totodile because water types are always useful.

I picked Totodile my first time through playing Crystal, but then I went for Cyndaquil the second time.
So I have to say Cyndaquil, easy.

I would choose Chikorita because I like Grass-type but Cyndaquil is a easy pokemon for beginners like you. But you can choose whether what you want, you can just save the game and make another one if you want to test on how each of the pokemons affects the game. razz
