The Myth begins...
The Eclipse.
Daytime was the time of light. It had always been that way, and that was the way it should be. Everyone knew this, but somehow this day had been totally different.
All the villagers had put down their work and were stepping outside to see exactly what was going on. The village was made up out of narrow streets, so to get a good view the villagers gathered on a hill just outside of the village.
Gazing up at the sky they saw the sun, but something was wrong. The face of the sun did not seem right, something seemed to be sliding in front of it. Non of the villagers had ever seen an event this rare, or this disturbing. As more and more of their precious life giving daystar was being covered, the villagers were getting more and more scared. Their nighttime protector, the moon was taking away the day! “We have to do something” was the shared opinion of the villagers. “”shoot the moon down!” “light all the lamps to help the sun” “scare the spirits of the night” were some of the options that were thought up, but they could not decide on any of them. Some villagers kept quarrelling as the sun was more and more taken from their sight.
But on the very moment the sun should have gone completely a dazzling light appeared above the hill and the villagers, and all went quiet. A relic that shone with the light of the sun and the moon combined was slowly falling…… no floating down from the sky’s. Again everyone gazed to the sky, but their disappearing sun had been temporarily forgotten. The villagers did not know what the shining form was, but it was beautiful. As finally the relic reached the ground on top of the hill, the villagers had formed a circle with form from the sky in the middle.
The villagers milled around the form, looking at it from all sides. It looked like two beings, it did not seem alive, but its light was almost blinding this up close. After some time the villagers noticed that there seemed to be more and more light, their sun war returning! And the light of the shining form dimmed to a pleasant glow.
The villagers started talking again, “we misunderstood” “the moon did not take the sun away” “no indeed they gave us a gift” “a gift from the sky”. By the time the sun was fully back again the villagers had already thanked their sun and moon for sending the shining form, which would from now on be named “The Gift From The Sky”. As a gift from the gods above the villagers found that the form had to be honored, and they decided to build a Temple for the gift right there on top of the hill……but…… that created a problem. If the temple would be outside of the village there needed to be someone at the temple at al time to protect and care for the gift. From their midst’s the villagers chose as a guardian for the gift a young woman who would volunteer all her time day and night to be with the mysterious gifted form.
And thus it happened, the temple was build with a warning bell for if anything would happen, and the young woman stayed there day and night. At first all villagers would come up to the temple at least once a day to honor the gift and leave something for the gift and for its guardian, these would be things like food, timber art, fine cloth for decoration and so forth. But as time slowly wore on and the relic seemed to turn out to be no more than a statuary item, more and more villagers chose to stay working all day in the villages. The life in the village returned to more or less the same as before the gift was send.
More time passed and no villagers came to the temple anymore. Until the relic’s guardian awoke some day to see that the gift from the sky had that night changed colours, at first it had been mostly colourless but now….. At one side the being-shape had turned white with silver, on the other side the being-shape had turned gold and orange-red. The guardian, fearing something was wrong, ran to the warning bell and sounded it. She waited for the villagers to come, but only a handful of them came. The entire day the little group tried to see and measure if anything was wrong with their rare gift. But all seemed in order and as the night came the villagers left once more.
The guardian still did not feel calm, something had happened and that had to mean something. She stayed up all night talking to the gift, as she had now done so many times before, but as morning came she dozed off to sleep for a short while. As the guardian was asleep two things happened in close succession to each other. Inside the temple the gift from the sky was lighting up blindingly again, outside the villagers were roused again by the fact that their sun was again being taken from their sight.
The guardian awake again due to the light, that was now shining as a beacon though the open skylight of the temple. She once more sounded the temple bell. This time the villagers heeded the call of the temple, for they all saw the tower of light coming from the top of the hill. The villagers gathered at the temple, and were let in by the guardian once more. The villagers circled around the shining gift, the guardian placed somewhat more near to the gift, once more to see what would happen this time. They waited as the sunlight diminished, and the light tower got brighter and…….. as the sunlight disappeared, so did the tower of light, and the temple was shrouded in darkness. The villagers feared, but waited for their sun to come back, and it did. But as the light returned the gift from the sky was no longer on its spot.
Where had the two being-shapes gone? As the light became fuller that answer was given. On both sides of the guardian stood a shining being-form, there they were…………………………

The Moon
there they were…………………………
On the left side of the guardian stood the first being-shape. It seemed to shine with pleasant cool lunar light. The crowd looked at her and saw a beautifull girl.
The girls skin was a pale untanned white colour. Her face had a classical Greek look and esthetic beauty, there was no make up in the girls spotless face. The girls yes seemed to draw the crowd in with their amazing mesmerizing grey colour. Her hair was knee long, it hung down and seemed to wave around the girl like a cape of silver, the true colour of her hair was a strange white/grey blond.
The clothing of the girl was simple, and in its simplicity wonderfull, she wore a long white dress that seemed to sparkle with silver like the stars at night. Other than that the girl wore no clothing and no shoes.
In her hands the girl had a silver bow, the symbol for the crescent moon.
But one thing drew the attention of the crowd away from the rest of the girls looks. Her brow was adorned with a lunar headdress depicting the phases of the moon.
The girl was looked at by the crowd for a long period of time before one person asked “what will they be named?” the crowd grew silent and looked at the guadian “you shall name them” an elder from the village said. The guadian looked at the girl, thought and then spoke “she is a miracle-like being, she posseses the beauty of the deepest full mooned night, and seems to be made out of the essence of the moon. Therefore her name shall honor a deity much associated with the moon and women, her name will be Artemis ”

The Sun
there they were…………………………
On the right side of the guardian was the second being-shape, this one seemed to shine with a warm golden glow. The crowd looked to her as well and saw a beautifull girl.
Her skin was lightly tanned as if by the sun, and her face had a friendly asian/japanese build, and was made up with bright red traditional accents. Stunning golden eyes completed the face. Her hair was raven black, it was mostly pulled up in a bun that was held by two big pins but there were some strands of hair that hung down and framed her face.
Her clothing was made up out of a kimono, the kimono was extensively decorated and pianted with the colours of the sun red, orange and yellow, like her companion she wore no shoes.
In her hands the girl held a golden ball that seemed to symbolise the great daystar, the sun.
But one thing in the girls apearance demanded the greatest attention, her brow was crowned with gold, a gorgious headdress shaped like a sun with a little circle of beams.
The crowd stared at the girl for a moment but then turned their attention to the guardian. “what will you name her?” they asked. The guardian thought again for a moment and then answered “She seems to mirror her sister, our first being-shape, and she seems to be made from the essence of the sun. So I will name her also in the honor of a goddess, this time one of the live giving sun, her name will be Amaterasu”

The myth ends
Now that the being-shapes, the girls, the two gifts from the sky were named, the villagers finally seemed to get that this was truely happening, and not a dream. And as happens more often to humans, they started thinking of how this could be of best advantage to themselves. “Where will they come to live now?” the discussion began. “Let the guadian chose” someone said, and all the eyes once again turned to the young woman who had cared for the gifts since they appeared.
The gurdians eyes grew with apprehension, and before she could say anythig a storm of voices broke out in the temple, the two girls hid behind their guardian. Every one of the villages wanted to take the girls home, and to get their way the villagers offered the guardian all sorts of things she might like. A villa build fit for a queen, the finest clothes made for the rest of her life, all the timber she could ever need to warm the temple, juwels that would help her outshine anyones beauty.
“STOP please!” the guardian called “they are their own soul I can not pick their fate, they must do that for themselves” she stepped aside to let the girls chose. Now the villagers rounded on the girls, they offerd them all they had just offered the guardian. The girls looked at each other, and took each others hand, backing up until they were against the wall surrounded by people. Their individual light shone up suddenly, as they spoke with one voice
“We remember only one that has allready given us the one thing that is important and that no other has offered us, LOVE. We will stay with our guardian in our temple, and though we will not live with you all are welcome to come here whenever you wish” ater they spoke their lights dimmed again, and as it did the temple was decorated with more splendor than ever before. The two girls walked to the guardian and took her hands
“we are home”
