Simple Doors and Chests Tutorial

I'm probably not the only one who has ever had a hard time first figuring out how to make doors and chests open, so I figured I'd put up a quick tutorial on them. Right now, these are only for XP, but I'll add screenshots for 2k3 soon (the events aren't too different, so you should be able to figure it out).
Note: As the title says, these are SIMPLE. You can make them much fancier, and I might add more onto this later to show that, but for now, SIMPLE.

The way I like to make my doors is through Common Events, (A common event is exactly what it says, a commonly used event.) Common Events are very useful when it comes to doors and chests since you save some time making the same events over and over again. All you'll need to do is set the graphic, call the common event, and any extra things such as teleporting your character, or gaining items.

[XP] Making the Common Event

First off, you'll need to go into your Database (Tools - Databse, or press F9). Then you'll need to go to the Common Events tab, which is the second last tab. Name the event as something you'll remember (Ex: Open Door, or Open Chest) and leave the trigger as it is.
Now, to make the door or chest look like it's opening, we'll need to go to 'Set Move Route', which is on the second tab. Make sure that it's set to 'This event', this makes sure that the graphic you choose when you make the actual event will move, and not your character.

Move Route Screenshot

Now, we need to tell it how we want the door/chest to move:
$>SE: '024-Door01', 80, 100 - This is the sound effect that you want to play when the door/chest opens.
$>Turn Down
$>Wait: 5 frame(s) - If you think the doors/chests open too slow, just set the wait time lower than 5 frames.
$>Turn Left
$>Wait: 5 frame(s)
$>Turn Right
$>Wait: 5 frame(s)
$>Turn Up
$>Wait: 5 frame(s)

You can either make two Common Events with different sound effects, (one for a door and one for a chest) or just make one common event without the sound effect in it. If you make just one common event for both, you'll just need to remember to add the sound effect in the actual event when you place the door or chest on the map. I prefer to have two different ones, but this is just because I'm lazy and like to save time if I can.

When you're done with your common event, it should look something like the screenshot below (depending on what version you're using, some wording might be different).

Making the Event

Now that you've got the common event, all that's left to do is make the event itself and set a few more things. So first, make your event and set the graphic to either a chest or a door (whichever you need, of course). And if you didn't set a sound effect in the common event you should add one now ('Play SE' on the second tab).
In Event Commands, you need to go to 'Call Common Event' and choose your common event that you just made. Now you can add a teleport event (if you need to) to move your character onto another map, or somewhere else on the same map. You can do this by going to 'Transfer Player' on the second tab, then choosing where you want your character to show up and which direction they should be facing.

Of course, with chests you'll want to add what you find in the chest, and a message saying what you've gotten, but I'm sure you all know how to do that by now.

Here are some door examples. Remember that doors take up two tiles, and you'll need to set the event on the bottom wall tile (don't mind the tint on the bottom right picture, I forgot to take out the tint before taking the screenshot so it would be easier to see, but I'm sure you get the general idea). And as you can see from the two bottom pictures, the door takes up a bit more than two tiles during actual game play.
