Dear Rexy,
My friend cuts herself. She says she can't stop, she has an addiction. I got all her friends together and tried to tell her it's bad, and she isn't listening. She doesn't care, and she says she wants to die anyway. It's because of her parents, she says, they beat her. Her arms look like she has been doing it a while. I really need your help. I don't know what to do. One of her other friends told her mom, and her mom through away all the rasors. She was so addicted, she used a protractor! I don't think she will ever stop. I don't want to loose my friend.

scared for her life I have heard a lot of this sort of scenario, whether it be from one of my friends, my cousin, or from the Life Issues subforum in the Life Discussion forum. Either way, it's an awful thing to hear. It's something that shouldn't happen to anybody. Just talk to her about it, one on one. If you start crying, don't hold back. Or you could talk to all of her friends who want her to stop and have an intervention for her. You know, like they do on the t.v. series? You have to tell her that cutting is like doing drugs. If it causes you happiness, you'll become addicted. If you don't think she'll ever stop, then she won't. You have to have faith that she will stop, and tell her that she has to stop because you care about her life and about her. Throwing away the razor's won't help. Her mother has to talk to her about it, and also, if you and all of her friends along with her mother have an intervention for her, that will have a bigger impact on her to stop. Good luck.
