  Crazy.
  Pointless.
  Totally worth it.

Well, Christmas is coming around and I feel like getting my fish a special treat.
I already checked out the pet store, but there isn't really much (healthy non chemical stuff) I could get them there that they don't already have or have had before.
So, what kind of food would you suggest to give to a threesome of Comets?
Do you ever give your fish something special for a holiday or just because?

NOTE: the pet store I go to are severely understocked and do not have any kind of fish snacks. They only have Wardly, Nutrafin and sometimes Tetra Min flake and pellet food. And those weekend blocks that slowly dissolve.
So I'm asking for creative food options smile

Heh, well I went to the pet shop to check, (actually i was thinking plankton pellets).
But they don't really have anything but Nutrafin Flakes there. (Even the other brands have disappeared from the shelf.)
So I have no way of getting them brine shrimps, though it's a good idea, i haven't fed my fish brine shrimps in a long time come to think of it.
The cleric said they won't be getting new supplies till next year, and since I live on an island there isn't really anywhere else I can go to get something.

I'm thinking of giving them some cooked peas and baby carrots. smile

I recently bought my goldfish two new types of foods as an early Christmas present. I was in my LFS and saw a bottle of Soft Krill pellets and a bottle of Soft Spirulina pellets on the shelf calling out to me.

I thought it would be nice for me to buy some food that was actually nutritional, or at least more nutritional than the average flakes or pellets. I have a Black Moor who is completely blind in one eye and can't see out of the other ( rofl ), so it's really difficult feeding him. Whenever I manage to put food into his mouth, I want to make it count, haha.

So yeah, they've been eating on it for a month now and they really love the new variety in their diet.

Other things I feed them when I feel like spoiling them are cooked & shelled peas, boiled or steamed squash or zucchini, various fruit like banana, watermelon, orange, etc. Nearly any soft plant matter will make their day. (I say soft because that's what my goldfish like.)

When I eat veggies with my dinner I try not to add anything weird to them so I can share it with my fish. (:

My guppies like nearly everything I give to them as well. They generally maul it and tear it to shreds and then hunt every spare scrap until it's all completely eaten. xd

Oh, sheets of seaweed called nori are good too. Some people know it as larver. If you are iffy about nori that you buy in the grocery store, some LFS sell 100% fish-safe nori.

Sometimes I give my fish small bits of canned tuna packed in water as well. They gobble that up fast. ^^ I generally hand feed it to them so it doesn't fall apart in the water and get lost though, cause sometimes the tuna I buy is all shredded lol.

Orange???
Isn't that too acid for them?
Heh, I did give them a bit of boiled cantaloupe last.
They seemed to love it at 1st, but got disinterested once the pulp was gone and only fibers remained. (yay for annoying cleaning job)

I sometimes feel like sharing my vegies too, but since we often kook with butter or vegetable/virgin/whatever oil I don't think it'd be a really good idea. Not to mention the spices and salt that are often thrown in.

But the tuna and seaweed are really good ideas. I know the pet store doesn't have seaweed. (they only sell wardly, nutrafin and occasionally tetra min pellets and flakes gonk ).
But I'm sure the supper market will have. biggrin

Heh, your guppies remind me of when I used to keep guppies. I used to dig up worms, ant eggs and crush sea snails for them.
Took a lot of rinsing though. A few times some of my guppies got a parasite that way so I stopped.
They really loved it though.

Most fish love the blood worm cubes. Its amusing to watch cories dig at them ^_^ I would get that... in a freezer section of your fish store ^_^

Oh you have comets too?!?! heart I don't know many people with comet fish, its the only fish that work for me. I usually give my comet a small bit of smushed pea for it. It seems to like it alot. sad I really should give it some the next time I go home. It's been ages since I gave it one.

Oh and give it a new hiding place, switch around your tank decor to give it new feel.

About the weaweed you get aat the grocery: make sure you get the ones that don't have any salt.

The ones that come in sheets to make sushi should be okay, but they may breakup in the water.
