Eamane shrugged off her over sized coat, juggling the squirming infant in her arms. She managed to place the infant on the floor safely and wandered to the shelves looking for a book on building a set of drawers.
Kiran amused himself by sticking his hand in his mouth and cooing. He kicked his legs and by some miracle managed to turn himself over onto his stomach.

Bookstores. Zasalamel himself had no use for them...he found them to be pointless. What good was a book, outside of using them as impromptu weaponry? Sure a book to the head wasn't as good as a good punch, but in some circumstances it might yield to be useful. Writing journals never sat well with him...why write your deepest thoughts on a piece of paper someone would one day surely find? That was almost as a silly as writing out an entire battle strategy plan in florescent colours then leaving it on the doorstep of your enemy. Pointless, and dangerous to your campaign. So, he'd long since come to the conclusion books weren't worth it.
So, that begged the question as to WHY he was in the bookstore. That answer was simple: Thae told him too. The red head was spouting some nonesense about difficult children and stupid social norms she couldn't understand. Zah didn't understand them either, but he didn't complain about them as vocally as Thae did. The Drow still couldn't figure out half the things he'd just decided to blindly accept as normal. Like a male being able to choose a mate.
The Drow was on his way towards the "How-to" section to get a book on raising kids, when a little something caught his attention. The small something was soft and squishy, and it was cooing to itself. That little thing was also stuck between the floor and a rather thick Drow boot. Luckily for Kiran warning bells went off in his head the instant he realized the ground wasn't that high up, so he never stepped down. Stepping would, ultimately, flatten the child to death and despite everything, he had a very vague weakness for children. Instantly retracting his boot, the Drow leaned forward a bit to look down at the little male creature, blinking his purple eyes curiously.
"Much apologies, small manchild." He said to the baby, clasping his big obsidian hands around the infant's midsection, picking him up to face him. "No harm done~" Zah went on to say, holding the child in his awkward little way that Kishi usually grumbled at him about.

Kiran peered up at the vaguely humanesque form standing above him and strained to focus his eyes more clearly. When he did he let out a tiny squeak of surprise. BIG foot! His kicks did nothing to save him and he closed his eyes in preparation of becoming a selkie pancake.
But the crushing weight never came and the babe felt himself being lifted up into the air by strange hands, much bigger than his mother's hands. He peeked open one bright blue eye and focused on Zasalamel's dark face. Stranger! Tears welled up and when he opened his mouth a high pitched wail came out. He didn't seem to be to grateful to the Drow for saving him from ultimate pancake doom.
At the child's cries Eamane poked her head around the corner of a bookshelf. Her violet eyes took on a confused look at the sight of her screaming infant and the obviously uncomfortable Drow. Anger she may have felt evaporated at his slight distress and she came forward. "Hello there...I think you have my baby..." Introductions were never her strong suit.

Zah's eyes widened when the kid started to wail. Unsure of what to do with this particular child, the big drow teenager instead held the babe out at arm's length, starting at it like one would stare at a situation they imagined would get better on its own. Kishi would be ashamed of him, if she could see this. "Uhh...Good baby?" The Drow said through his thick accent, trying to calm the infant down.
His ears perked when a woman apoke to him, turning his obsidian head towards the voice's owner. Oh, the babe's Matron? Offering her something of a smile, the big teenager turned and, still holding the infant out at arm's length, offered the wailing creature to her. "Siyo, Almost stepping on small manchild. Much apologies." He said sympathetically, unable to look the woman in the eyes.

The little elf watched the stranger with a look of wry amusement on her face. She had to suppress a laugh at his now obvious discomfort, "You're not much of a baby person are you?" She reached out to take the child from his hands.
Kiran's cries subdued when he caught sight of his mother. He quieted but still whimpered between hiccups, looking from the dark stranger to his care giver. "Ah boo" the baby sounded defeated.
