That nasty field makes a HUGE difference. I once played a pick-up game on the Chicago midway after a few days of rain. It was worse than the field at Heinz Stadium, if you can imagine that.
sad Everyone was covered in muck by the end. My feet sank into the mud a few inches every time I stepped.
No offense, but your conditions were better.
You guys had an advantage. Like you stated, you were able to "sink into the mud," and at least get a grip on the field. At Heinz, this past Monday, it was layered grass installed over the real field. That's little or no drainage, with constant rain, so the players barely got any grip. A layer of water was present over every square inch of the new field, and the players kind of "glided" over the water. It was fun to watch, though.
