Okay so I saw the main site for this college.. and I think I'm really liking it! Its 60% jewish, so I would be happier there, as my parents will only allow me to date jewish people.. (perhaps I might find a girl I like??) but its not for the dating purposes alone.. I just feel like I'd fit in there more than I would at Cornell University where I heard horror stories of how cut throat the students are with eachother..

I was wondering if anyone knew much more about Brandeis? I think its a good option for me.

I was also wondering if anyone knew whether a school like Cornell or Brandeis would better prepare me for my LSATs? Because I want to go the lawyer route..

and I'm not sure which school I should go to.. A SUNY? or a school with a better name.. Such has Brandeis (no. 31), or Cornell (no. 12 or 13 depending on the chart)? Preperation for the LSATs is something I am considering in choosing a school to transfer into.

I also need them to accept all 63 credits from my honors program at my current 2 year suny intitution (SUNY Rockland Community College). According to the program, an education with the honors program is comparable to one given at any ivy league school.

my GPA is a 3.25, and its going to be going up after this semester as well.

Hmm, let's see.

My mom wants me to go to brandeis.

Yes it's VERY jewish.

And it's in the middle of Waltham, which has improved reciently.

Don't bring a car, there's no where to park.

Brandies is within driving distance from my house, plus there's intercity commuter rails there.

We'd hook up even if I didn't go to said school.

I've heard it's pretty good, but is mostly known for its Jewish population here; it's a college I'm considering, but I'd prefer WashU or Northwestern myself for distance, etc.

I have this college book I'm looking at right now- once I get to the section on Brandeis, I'll summarize a few things about it.

As for Cornell, I have a friend who goes there; it's VERY liberal, so if you prefer that or not, keep that in mind. He enjoys it, but he says it's a lot of work- apparently it has the highest suicide rate out of colleges. As far as I can tell, he does enjoy it, though. Mind you- he's a physics major, so not sure how law is there.

Personally, I'd go for wherever you think you'd enjoy the most while still learning a lot and having a higher likelihood of getting a good job.

I'm a sophomore at the 'Deis. But don't be fooled- it's really not that Jewish. About 50% of the student body is Jewish, but I would guess only about 10% are observant. It's nice though- I grew up in an area where I was the only Jewish person most people, even adults had ever met. So it's nice to be in an area where even the Dominican and Pakistani kids throw out some Yiddish words!

I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, but a 3.25 would leave you slim chances of getting in as a transfer. Our acceptance rate for freshmen is only about 25% (and dropping fast) and the transfer rate is even lower. There is also no guaranteed housing for transfers. I do know several transfers who love it and most got housing off the wait list, but that's an anxiety ridden process.

If anyone has any questions about it, I'd be glad to share! It's a wonderful school and people are always impressed when you tell them you go to Brandeis. razz Many average people haven't heard of it but people in the professional world are familiar and know it for it's academic esteem- NOT it's Jewishness.

Just thought I'd bump this now that the college admin process is over to see if anyone had decided to go or apply next year?

I might apply, but with the crazy admittance rate, I don't know if I'd get in either. What's an average ACT/SAT score like?

Depends on where you are going and what kind of scholarship you are hoping to get, really. sweatdrop

It looks like Brandeis requires a high SAT score. 75% of Brandeis' students did above a 1300, if I am interpreting their student info page correctly. Personally, I only took the SATs once and got a 1200 on them. I was happy enough with that, and I got a good enough scholarship that it wasn't worth retaking them.

I do have to add on a slightly unrelated note that if you are considering continuing your education beyond undergrad, it really shouldn't matter what school you go to for undergrad. A degree is a degree, and not too many people are going to bother asking their doctor where he got his bachelor's from, you know? It's passing with good grades that matters, not the pricetag on the school or the prestigue.

Well, at least Brandeis doesn't charge an application fee when you fill one out online. xd

Most likely I'll go where I get some serious scholarships- my brothers and I all want to get PhDs/MDs, so that will be interesting... xp
