okay, since i've been sick and in bed form the lovely holiday stresses, i got to work on my tribal bra. here's what i learned:

be prepared to hurt your fingers! hand stitching onto the padded/molded bra can cramp your fingers. pace yourself! it took me 3 days.

acquire the Folkwear pattern Tribal Dancer. it was designed by Caroleena Nerrichio so it's true to ATS. also the book by Dawn Devine Brown Bedlah, Baubles, and Beads. both were very helpful in covering the bra. also make your choli ahead of time or do as the gals in Domba! do: wear another thinner bra underneath. after it's done you're not going to wash it!

I bought my coins from shimmybliss.com and my kuchis from a vendor at Spirit of the Tribes in Ft. Lauderdale (held every april) both at very good prices. My mirror belt i got direct from india from some very good seller on ebay.

when i come up with other things, i'll post some more! feel free to ask any questions. i've been engineering/costuming for over 20 years.

Ohhh hand sewing coins is a pain! LOL I was working on sewing some coins on a bra a few months ago and gave up on it for a little while. Though it's a lot of hard work, it's really worth it in the end! I just love costuming... biggrin

I'm currently trying to crochet a pair of socks... lol

Theres a top i love to death but i want to make it go with my outfit. i was thinking about adding a row of coins alternating with beads. (theres a strip of fabric with coins i bought from wal-mart, and the same with dangel beads at a fabric store) i was thinking about doing that starting from the metal rings and down.

what do you suggest? as you can see, i grew out of it and i think its a bit too revealing.

lady j: what style bra are you looking to make it into? tribal: you might as well start from scratch since i've seen nothing but black bras for tribal same goes for gothic. if you drop a few pounds like my sister is doing, you'll be surpised what you fit into, so don't toss it aside if you feel it's too tight right now. the only thing you have to worry about is if there is any elastic in it. elastic, over time, tends to disintegrate. but if you're covering it with velvet or brocade you should have nothing to worry about. personally, i love the print! i'm an idiot for hibiscus/surfer prints.

lol. its not a bra, its a bathing suit top. i don't know what i want to make of it. i kinda like to step out of the box and use it for like a tribal fuison or gothic. i know black is the color, but the outfits not really all blue. the pants are black and i thought about using black beads. (i <3 black and blue)

hmmmm...it's too "perky" of a print for gothic. Goths tend to be so emo! tribal fusion on the other hand has a sense of humor. Go all out with colors! take the bra with you to Wally-world and see if you can find a blue to match it in a satin or sheer and make a small panel skirt for it to wear over your black pants. and try to get gold tone beading and accessories. I love it, it's gonna be wicked-cool!
