This Christmas I'm getting my first electric guitar after a very long year of playing just my acoustic. So I chose an Epiphone Les paul Studio and a Line 6 spider 3 75 watt amp, I just want people opinions on it. I know people say Line 6 sounds very digitalized but I don't have the money for all the distortion pedals and all that.

Only real problem I have is with the Spider. Before I say anything however, what kind of music do you like playing and are you going to be playing gigs any time soon? If not, maybe a small tube amp would be better, and the mony left over could go for an OD pedal. If you can't stretch your budget, maybe think about these.

Epiphone Valve Junior: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-Valve-Junior-Combo-Amp?sku=480260
Or this if you want more volume

If you don't need an OD pedal, maybe a Palomino V16. Or a used Peavey Classic 30.

The music I like is anything from Classic Rock to Blues to Hard rock to heavy death metal. I don't think I'll be playing any gigs for a while since my band just got together, so probably just maybe a 30 watt if I get a tube amp. Though now I'm starting to have second thoughts on the spider. Now I'm thinking maybe a marshall with a line 6 pocket pod. I might also be changing to an epiphone les paul standard, though idk. Its a tough decision for me since I'm probably not getting anything else big till next christmas, and for my birthday just maybe an effects pedal or two =/.

What kind of Marshall? If it's an MG, I don't really recommend it. I used to have one, and now that I have my tube, it's just...yeah. And if you're not gigging, 5 watts of tube will be MORE than enough. And if you do get an Epi, I wouldn't recommend ordering one online. Try it out first. Quality between Epi guitars, they aren't are the most consistent thing out there. Also, a Peavey Valveking Royal 8 might be another 5W amp to consider.
The Palomino V16 might be one to consider as well. Loud enough to play small gigs, anything bigger would probably have a PA system so you could hook it up, and soft enough for practice, whether with the band or in your room.

The Marshalls I've played on were fairly good, but I never really paid attention to what the models were...
Peavy makes pretty good amps.
I have a Spider III. I love it. The only problem with it is that you have to kind of learn your way around it - it took me quite a while to figure out how to get a purely clean sound with no effects in it (whenever I turned the effect notches to zero, it would still have a trace of an effect in it; I forget what I was doing wrong, though).
Stay away from Fender and Ibanez amps - my experience has been that Fender amps will only sound good with Fender and Squier guitars, and I have an Ibanez amp that it complete trash.
