((This is an RP for Ursa and Banana Tango. Don't post! Unless you're me. Or OniAja. Duh. ))

When she flew into the shop, Ursa was actually somewhat grateful that there wasn't anyone else around. If there was, she might have to ask them about Yanvir. They, of course, would know nothing, but Ursa would be stuck explaining her ressurection for a good ten minutes regardless. Then the other Feien would either quake in their boots, or be no help at all, and Ursa was back to square one.

She was tired to thinking about her past, and all of the mysteries around it. Tired of trying to puzzle out the strange and terrible void in her mind. Ursa wasnted to be useful. She wanted to get something DONE. She wanted to throw herself into work.

Which was what she'd already been doing, to prepare for this meeting, but still.

Seeing that the kid wasn't yet around, Ursa landed in a shelf. She hadn't set a time, so she couldn't blame the the Tango girl for not being punctual.

...

Waiting idly did not suit her.

And so the large Feien cracked her back, laid down on her belly, and started in on a set of pushups. She was sure the kid would see her when she came in. Ursa was noticeable.

BZZT BZZT BZZT BZZT BZZT!!!!

Banana shot straight up, her dreads touseled about her head in disarray as she rubbed at her bleary unfocused eyes. She glared up at the alarm clock, eyes growing wide as they came into focus to display the time. She was late, or rather it seemed that way, she definitly over slept that's for sure. Like a child hurrying for the school bus, Banana scrabbled from the burrow she she made in Oni's pillow and hurried to his writing desk to throw her items into her bag quickly. Ursa was going to kill her! Her first day of training and already she was messing up. -Not- a good start.

The door leading to Oni's work shop yawned open with a creak of protest as the boy peeked out. and smiled at her warmly. "Oh hey! You're awake! Sorry I didn't get you up when I did, you looked too cute sleeping there." He offered softly, She only shook her head and started to flutter toward Oni's writing desk. She hurriedly gathered up her travel pack Peggity had sewn from some extra fabric and threw the straps on her shoulders hurriedly. The small satchel fit just between her wings still giving them room to flap.

She mouthed to herself as she checked herself over running a mental checklist. Papers, check, pens check, to bits of string, a few pebbles , her favorite bee stinger and the directions to the shop. Just the basic nessessities, over packing was just as bad as underpacking, as Peggity says. That should be everything, along with her gift for Ursa, a small bag of peanut clusters Peggity helped her to make the day before. It wasn't much but she hoped she'd like it anyway.

"Now, promise me you'll keep on your best behaviour and if ANYTHING goes wrong, contact me." Oni said wringing his tail in his hands nervously. Not since Maki had started going to school did he feel like he was sending his baby off to become a little woman. Her smaller size only magnified his worry. Banana on the other hand simply nodded figiting with the straps of her pack. She could feel his wory and felt a small glimmer of hesitation...

No, she had to go through this, if she wanted to help him and herself she had to take this first step.Once they reached the front door, she turned to face him. Smiling pleasently she signed to him, [ I'll be okay, father. trust me. ] Winging closer, she hugged at the bridge of his nose tightly He sighed in resignation and reached for the door knob pulling the door open for her. Hugging herself as an icy breeze dance it's way into the house, she turned and fluttered off into the chill of the morning air without another word. The trip back to the shop wasn't so bad, she had basically memorized most of it. Once or twice she had to stop and check the directions but she eventually found the place again. Finding the windown, the small feien landed in the hip deep snow with a audible chatter of her teeth. Hurrying inside she clapped her hands against her sides in a tight hug, concentrating to raise her body temperature.

Dusting the rest of the snow from her hair and satchel, she looked about until she saw the familiar blue and green of the ancient feien. She smiled making her way over, showing no effort to hide the confusion on her face as she watched Ursa perform the push ups. She stopped a little ways from her, hunching down to stare at her with her head tilted sideways, facinated by the display. Her curiousity got the best of her as she set her pack down and took up a spot next to the ancient and tried to mimic her. It was awkward at first but she somewhat got into it. Not as fast as Ursa, but she managed a few.

((Gah!! SO sorry about the posting gap, Oni ;_; . A final project I had due on the thirteen decided to go haywire on me at the last minute, so I spent the tail-end of last week in the Magical Land of Franticness.))

Ursa propped herself up on her arms, and looked to the side. The girl was very much dwarfed by Ursa, but she was imitating her with a look of fierce determination.

Most other Feien probably would have thought that it was cute. Ursa, however, was not most Feien. 'Cute' was not a word that openly admitted to having her in vocabulary.

"Good morning, girl!" Ursa said, wryly. "Or should I say good afternoon? I don't hold with lazing about in bed all morning - it's a waste of warmth and daylight! Next time we do this, I'll have to get you up at the crack of dawn."

She waited a half-second, for Tango to respond to her, before the rest of her brain reminded her that the juvenile could do no such thing.

With a grunt, Ursa flexed her powerful arms, and pulled herself into a crouch.

"Hm. If we're going to do this, we're going to have to communicate." Ursa decided, brusquely. "Is there a way we can do that without the paper? You can't carry that writing lot around and get a good workout at the same time."

Ursa thought it would be best to put the girl through her paces, first. Lifting the book was an impressive feat of strength, for a fairy Tango's size, but that was a one-off thing. It didn't tell Ursa much. She needed to know what Tango was capable of, even if it was clear that the girl had potential.

Stilll, they ought to get this chit-chat about communications done first. By the time Ursa was through with her, Tango should be too tired to THINK let alone move. Or at least that was the plan. Ursa stood for no tomfoolery on her watch.

((No worries! RL before Gaia, always. x_x; I'm kinda lagging too sorry))

The small feien had been counting in her head, teeth grit as she struggled through her set of push ups. Each one was a test of just what she could do. She would dip down really low, or raise up really high and when both resulted in her shoulder blades stinging slightly, she would pin her ears back settling for a middle ground. The break in the relative silence caught her off guard and she stopped at the crest of her last push up to offer a polite smile to Ursa. Her arms shuddering in protest at the sudden halt in momentum threatening to give out. Banana winced and sat back on her knees before that could happen working the knots out of her fingers and elbows, she held eye contact with the ancient as she was admonished.

With an understanding nod she commited the sheduled time to memory. Before dawn, got it. There was no sense in making excuses, she knew she had been late and there was no point in dancing around it. Kione had also been no nonsense about his brief training with her so she had learned quickly not to talk back.

Banana's brow wrinkled in the half second, her mouth actually dropping open to answer before she caught herself. It would have served no purpose anyhow. She thought on it a moment or two leaning over to drag her kit to her side. She didn't mean to interupt the question, but she just remembered her gift and wanted to make sure she gave it to her. Digging out the bag of peanut clusters and handed it over to Ursa.

Indeed communication would be easier if there was a faster means of doing so. Absently, she tried to sign out each word for the ancient, testingly. [ I don't know what to suggest, My knowledge of communication for the mute is very limited. ] She set her hands down on her knees waiting to see if she was understood before taking on a different method.

Ursa accepted the peanut clusters, with a short nod and a thankyou. She hadn't asked for payment, but it was a nice gesture on the girl's part. Just as long as she didn't think Ursa would go easy on her because of the food, they'd be fine.

Ursa's tail curled, impatient, as the small Feien made a series of gestures. With some, the meaning was obvious. Others, not so much. Ursa could not make heads, nor tails of it.

She shook her head.

"So you're thinking hand signs, girl? That's good. If you're every fighting with other people, and you teach them signs, you won't have to speak. Better for a surprise attack."

Ursa chuckled, and her belly heaved with the movement. "Not that I'M going to be surprising anyone any time soon, but you're a small thing, yet, and you need every advantage you can get."

Ursa thought for a moment, before making a decision.

"Here's what we're going to do. Write a few signs on your paper, and the words for what they mean beside them. Nothing fancy - just basics. Things you think I might need to know from you in the middle of a training exercize. If you're tired while you're training, I don're care. If you're hungry while you're training, I don't care. If you feel like you're going to collapse, I don't CARE. Your opponents won't care, and I'm not going to coddle you. Not unless you can make me care by FORCE, in which case, I think you're done, honey. "

Ursa returned to her prone position, beginning a set of new pushups.

"Think fast, kiddo," Ursa grunted, satisfied with the slight twinge of strain that was finally forming in her arms. "Nobody's going to give you time to reason things out in a fight, either. You've got until I've done fifty reps."

Banana grinned inwardly as her teacher accepted the meager present. Now she just hoped that she liked them. She hadn't thought to ask what it was she liked at all before hand. Course, she wasn't even sure the intimidating adult would even tell her this much! No matter there were more important matters to deal with.

She saw the impatience in Ursa's manner and felt her wings pin against her back. Their brightly henna'ed middles seeming very gaudy at the moment as she looked to her teacher. Even with such bright colors, the feien managed to pull them off impressively, at least to Banana she did and regreted further being of only one color. Shaking off this thought, she listened to the instructions, nodding every now and thing to show she understood.

Even as the orders came to her she set about brainstorming gestures that would be most helpful. 'Help' was a good one. She watched Ursa begin a new set of the odd things she called 'reps'. At her pace, she'd have no time at all surely! Quickly getting out her writing materials, Banana scribbled out some crude drawings of hands. Some having dotted lines to indicate motion ending with arrows. Next to them she wrote things like 'Help' 'You' 'I' 'Go' "Right' Left' Down' 'Up' 'Watch out' 'Duck' 'This' 'That' 'There' 'Around' 'Under' 'Over' 'Through'...

She tapped her chin in thought it sounded as if training may get a bit rough..Retrieving another sheet, she started a new set, 'Broken' 'Bleeding' 'Can't Move' 'Can't see' 'Can't hear' 'Weak' 'Cut' 'Choking' 'Dizzy' 'Lost' 'Falling' 'Dying'.

This was getting easier as she thought of different helpful things. 'Come' 'Follow' 'Stay' 'Fire' 'Retreat' 'Carry' 'Drag' 'Push' 'Attack' 'Punch' 'Kick' 'Bite' 'Stab'...Stab..? She looked at that last one and remembered the magpie in a flicker Her momentum halted and she dropped the quill for a moment. That was all she had, she was done for now.

((*mumbles* Stupid broken guild... ))

Ursa did her fifty pushups blithely, letting her charge flitter around as much as she like. What did it matter to Ursa? If the Tango girl wanted to expend all her endunrance too early, because she was chock full of nervous energy, then that was not Ursa's problem. Tango would learn not to do so, soon enough. She had meat on her bones, unlike some of the little stick-things Ursa saw skulking around, and that had to count for something.

When Ursa was finished, she snapped up the list and gave it a good going-over. She almost chucked when she scanned over the various ill fates that Banana Tango felt like there might be in store for her. Ursa was not trying to kill Tango. Although by the end of things, she might, indeed, wish that she were dead.

For the first hour or so. Ursa knew the feeling. Doing two hundred pullups with your claws hooked into a wall could do that to you. Although Tango had no claws, so that was out.

"Very good," Ursa sat up, reviewing the papers, before she looked over the top of them, to give Banana a small smile. "One more question then, honey. What's your element?"

Not being able to think of anything else to write down, Banana crossed her arms against her chest as she sat indian style next to her teacher. She had almost sunk into another bout of self loathing at how weak she felt beside such an impressive fore when the feien snatched up the list. She blinked up at her in amazement, she didn't even realize that she had finished her push-ups already.

Banana waited for Ursa to finish reading the signs she wrote down patiently. Perking up visibly as the list was approved upon. Her element? That was easy to translate she thought to herself raising up to her feet. Figureing that now was a good chance to test the symbols she had wrote down, Banana did the gesture of fire for Ursa. Her own curiousity getting her as she made another gesture hoping the look on her face was one of question. 'you'?

"I like the moisture. And I like the light," Ursa shrugged, muscles rolling in the green of her prellan. "Fire, did you say? Like heat?"

A slow, dangerous smile graced her features.

"You know what, girl? I think I've got just the thing."

Ursa got to her feet, and then floated out to the shop door. It should be easy for Tango to follow her. Ursa was many things, but fast was not one of them. Tango could probably buzz laps around her.

This did not bother Ursa. Mostly because, unlike that damn Neon, Ursa did not feel a constant urge to cuff the girl. Actually, she was rather impressed.

Soon, they were outside. Cold winds whirled around them, carring flecks of snow too and fro in the frostbitten air.

"If you're warm," Ursa raised her voice so that she could be heard over the breeze, and the noise of traffic. "Then THIS is your enemy."

She gestured towards the field of snow that stretched before them.

"There's no point to learning to give a hit, until you've learned to take one! You can't count on getting the first move in combat, and you can't count on your enemies not knowing your weakness."

Ursa nodded, grimly.

"If you can withstand your weakness, then you'll be strong enough to take anything anyone can dish out! Understand?"

With a thought, Ursa deactivated the magic that held her aloft - her wings were merely cosmetic - and landed heavily in the snow. She was still holding Banana Tango's papers.

With a few swipes of her claws, she'd made them a small clearing in the snowpack.

"I want you to get down in that snow, and do one hundred situps! NOW! And if you can't do one hundred situps, you'll be doing one hundred pushups too! Now GO!"

Ursa herself intended to start memorizing the gestures there, while Tango worked. She'd keep an eye on the girl to make sure she didn't pass out, but a little suffering would be good for her. No pain, no gain.
