Here's the movie I am currently obsessed with:
Thumbsucker.
It's a sundance film that is amazing.
It mocks the overmedicated youth of today and bashes the pretentious attitude of people who think they know all. It follows the senior year of Justin Cobbs, the "weird kid" at school who still sucks his thumb to the disdain of his father Mike Cobbs who is struggling with his own insecurities of growing old and realizing just how unsuccessful he is. (run on sentance? I think it flows nicely. fight me.) Justin finds solice in his hippie orthodontist who cures him of his dependancy on his thumb through hypnozation (is that a word? probably not). Justin also finds a friend in a fellow member of the debate team, Rebecca who is an activist for the enviornment. After feeling lost and stressed without the comfort sucking his thumb brought him, he is diagnosed with ADHD. He begins taking a pill like Ritalin which causes him to focus on school more, skyrocketing his grades and confidence. After Rebecca quits the debate team for pot and the lack of interest in debating, Justin takes her place. Hungry for wins, Justin conquers at debate meets.
I'll stop there. I could go on for hours, but I'm not. Anyway, that was about 25% of the movie right there. It's only 96 minutes, but it crams a lot of morals and character stories into it. As you can tell I have nothing but good things to say about this wonderful cinematic experience. I even like the soundtrack. My iPod is full of heavy metal, but the soft acoustic charged songs fit well with the movie. "Move Away and Shine" by the Polyphonic Spree is worth looking up.
If I have not convinced you to go watch this movie, Keanu Reeves is in it. That's what peaked my interest when I was flipping through my cousin's movies.
It's onDemand. In the free Encore Movies. .......freee.
I think I've wasted enough of your time.
