Rose blinked like a particularly naive doe as she sat down gratefully. "Untoward? Oh! Oh! No, he was perfectly..." She couldn't think of a word, as 'nice' was distinctly untrue. "... toward. He didn't tell me that it was you, though... Which was a little unfair, now that I think about it, but it was probably his idea of a joke. He was perfectly nice and they've recommended me for another Feien bond and - Djerod, I know this sounds awfully rude, but did you dye your hair?"

"Certainly not," said Djerod, mildly indignant. He handed Rose a steaming cup of tea. "Wouldn't dream of such a thing. But come, tell me where you've been, it's been months Gaia-side, hasn't it?" Djerod took the seat next to her and tried not to look too concerned. There were limits to how distressed he was willing to appear even among people he considered friends.

"I was out trying to work out Blinky's urge to go and do horrible things with caves. Thank you awfully, I haven't had good tea in ages." She took a long sip, closing her eyes, relishing it. "I ended up up and down the Mouth of Borovaris - it was deep in a mine - Casca loathed it. I think I spent months and months without sunlight. It was... It... I'm just glad to be home. After a while you tend to forget... that you're even a person, you know? You just keep on going because that's all you know. Walking. If Casca hadn't been with me I'd probably still be there. Time moved differently. I think it took... A bit of a toll, to be honest."

Djerod looked significantly more distraught by this news than could be readily accounted for. His face completely drained of its color except for his eyes, which were the palest blue. For one of those rare moments in his life, he was completely frozen with shock because he understood more of this hurried explanation than he wished he did, and the idea of Rose having gone through anything of that sort...
It was the sort of experience that he did not wish on anyone, even enemies, because it changed the nature of the universe so drastically that there was never any escaping it. Coping, yes, but it marked a person for life. After a moment of paralyzed silence Djerod lifted a slightly shaky hand and took his cup of tea, bringing it to his lips. He did not drink. He let the cup rest there a moment and then put it back down on the saucer. He would get those grey hairs back soon enough after news like this. "Rose, I--"

"Djerod." It was quite shy, her cheeks pink, but her eyes were serious; more serious than usual, gentle, older, even though her hands were twisted in her lap and her tea left with only one sip taken. "Don't worry. I... I shouldn't have worried you in the first place. I've been through worse, honestly. It's just... I just have to get the ache out of me, I can do that now I'm home. You make me feel much safer. I'm safe now with you, aren't I?"

In a move that would have been surprising even towards Emperial, Djerod reached over and took Rose's hands in his own. His pale blue eyes gazed into hers with a suprising intensity. It was strange, too, how very warm his skin felt, his hands completely enfolding hers. "You're safe here," he said, voice so low it was almost a throaty whisper. "You're home."
((Ahahaha that's my suitably sappy ending. Unless you want more? UNF.))
