Kono omoi wa mune ni shimatte okou... I’ll keep this love in my heart…
[Spoilers for chapter 342]
I was browsing NarutoFan forums, and stumbled upon a thread made by a hardcore Hidan fan stating how she was so distressed over how Shikamaru tortured and killed Hidan (and how he thoroughly enjoyed it). She was really upset, saying she had nightmares and how she's still depressed about the matter.
Hidan fans and haters alike--Do you guys agree with her? Why or why not?
Quote: As we all know, torturing and then killing Hidan gave Shikamaru great pleasure, in my opinion the very greatest pleasure of his life. Now, in the canon Hidan is all alone, so Shikamaru will never have anyone come after him for retribution, he got away scot-free for torturing and killing a man. He'll never pay, and thinks he didn't do a damn thing wrong. Now, myself and a few other fans of Hidan have been very hurt by what Shikamaru did to Hidan, and I don't know about the others but I've had countless nightmares and sleepless nights because I can't get the images of the extreme torture and Shikamaru's happiness over it, out of my mind. I'm just shocked still, months later. So what I'm asking is, do you think Shikamaru would enjoy knowing that he had caused me so much emotional pain and suffering? I think it would add greatly to his pleasure because he's not fond of women anyway, and he would think a woman who liked Hidan was the lowest person on the planet. So I think it would make him extra happy knowing that he's caused me nightmares and crying and depression and that sort of thing.
Quote: Wrong, he could've put Hidan in prison in Konoha, instead he thought out the most brutal torture he could imagine because he wanted to make Hidan suffer because he is so full of hatred and malice. Nothing in his life ever made him happier than torturing and murdering Hidan, and there's no question that he'd do it again if he could, which is why I made up the story where he's torturing a relative of Hidan's just because they share blood with him. And why I know he'd be laughing like a hyena if he knew how depressed he made me, because he believes in guilt by association. he's the devil and a monster and the day he dies will be the most beautiful day in existance. ...”Nakushita shimatta...” …”I’ve lost you…”

I'm kind of neutral on the whole thing.
I loved Hidan, and I loved Shikamaru BEFORE Part II. I don't dislike him now, but I definitely don't like him as much as I used to.
For one thing, I really really don't think it was fair that he was able to get his revenge so fast and so clean, whereas Sasuke has had to go through so much crap and has YET to get his.
However, I disagree with this girl where she says Shikamaru found killing Hidan pleasurable. Maybe I skipped over that part, but Shikamaru didn't exactly seem happy when he buried Hidan alive. He seemed.. apathetic, as if he couldn't have cared less, but not happy. And we don't know what he was feeling on the inside. For all we know a small part of him could have regretted killing Hidan. God knows, though. I doubt we'll see anything else relating to Hidan in the manga.

@_@ Nightmares because of that scene?
err...
isn't that a bit too extreme? sweatdrop
Like Kairi.nin, I'm neutral... truth be told, that scene didn't even make an impact on me. ><
But I think that it's perfectly fine that he got his revenge pretty quickly. I'd hate to see kishi waste precious pages on an avenger shika when he could use them for avenger sasuke. haha... so yeah, if sasuke suffers more, he gets more screentime so that's fine with me... he's just a character anyway
Also, we have to remember that Hidan was an S-class missing nin, meaning that it would have been harder and more dangerous to take him alive... they're ninjas... killing is part of their jobs... I'd love to see the day that naruto makes his first kill
and honestly, if someone killed one of my loved ones, I'd take pleasure in killing them too...
so... XD I wish I could change my vote. XD I think shika did well... rofl

Oh my...
Quite extreme. There's no reason to become an insomniac...he's just a character. xD
In my opinion Shikamaru had every right to enjoy Hidan's death. He lost someone very dear to him and this was his revenge. Hidan deserved exactly what he got.
Like Kairi and lalapooch, I'm pretty neutral on the subject. I knew from the beginning (well, maybe not the beginning) that Hidan was going to die for killing Asuma.
It's all just a part of the storyline. Kishimoto's just trying to get rid of the Akatsuki members one by one.

*jaw drop*
Wow. I didn't know people could get affected by character death THIS much.
I don't think Shikamaru tortured Hidan. He just did all he could to stop Hidan from killing again. Unfortunately, he had to do it in the most brutal way possible. But it was a good strategy.
Besides, it's FICTION. Geez. Maybe if Hidan and Shikamaru were real people, the OP would have more of a rational reason to be upset.

...So, they are totally okay with Hidan's massacre of hundreds, maybe thousands. And Shikamaru takes down the guy who did it, and he has to die?
Tf? I fail to see their logic.
Though, I admit. If Suiggy got killed off somehow, I'd be upset with the person who did it too. But not to their level, at least. s l e e p

I'm a Hidan fan so I'm quite biased on this-- Shikamaru was awesome during that arc, but I really do agree with Kairi that it's unfair. We go through the manga being taught that "revenge is wrong", and here Shikamaru loses ONE person, and then gets his revenge in an arc.
Sasuke loses everything and it's WRONG for him to want revenge?
There's something twisted in that logic. Even if Sasuke was in Konoha, no one approved of his revenge... but Shikamaru's was okay?
That's completely unfair to Sasuke to be condoned for what Shikamaru was praised.

I don't remember anyone telling Sasuke his revenge is wrong. They've told him it won't make him happy, but unlike Shikamaru, he's going to great lengths just to get it. If anyone's telling him it's wrong, they probably mean the way he's going about it is wrong.
I would like to say there was supposed to be some contrast between Shikamaru's revenge and Sasuke's revenge, but I don't see it.
Maybe if Ino and Chouji actually DID something, the contrast would be, Shikamaru used teamwork as opposed to Sasuke shoving everyone away, but NO. Ino and Chouji did NOTHING. Not even help Kakashi handle Kakuzu. Shikamaru handled Hidan himself like it was NOTHING. Maybe Hidan isn't as strong as Itachi, but that doesn't change much.
I don't hate Shikamaru, I don't regret Hidan's death, and I'm not angry. If anything, I'm just upset. Sasuke's tearing himself up inside to get his revenge, and Shikamaru gets his just like that. Yeah, great way to just slap your Sasuke fandom in the face, Kishimoto.

This is where the true spoilers come into play, but if I can recall correctly, Hidan was decapitated and his head was crushed by boulders in a forest that no one is permitted (save the Nara clan, who owns the forest) to enter.

I'm not a Shika fan, and I'm not a Hidan fan. But that was kinda harsh to your Sasuke Fandom Kishi.
Shika gets praised for killing an Akatsuki member who killed one precious person of his, while Sasuke is supposingly going about this all wrong for killing a man who killed his whole clan?
Sasuke had no one growing up, and he was obviously too prideful to ask for help on his quest of Revenge. That pride probably comes from years of pampering. But Shika had people. At the time too.
Nightmares and sleep loss? I had that when my cat died. The sleep loss anyways. The Nightmares came from my fears. xD
As much as I love my favorites in the manga, i'm not gonna lose sleep over them. Unless Kishimoto decides to kill Sasuke off, then I will lay awake at night trying to figure out why.
Oh well, what's done is done, right?
PS: That also was kinda harsh to Hidan I guess. Having your head crushed under boulders isn't what I'd call a happy funeral. Especially if you're still living.

Now, I've always been a fan of Shikamaru, especially during Part II.
(( Dude, badass much, thank you. <3 ))
*drycough* Anyway, I have to agree that Kishi is hardly justified having Shikamaru gain his revenge(with no help, mind you, absolutely none at all. No-- no, wait. Ino... screamed, maybe? A few times? Did more than poor ol' Chouji, newaiz.) whilst Sasuke just finally THANK GOD got his. Major kick in the rear for Sasuke fans. :/
While I never thought Sasuke was wrong for seeking revenge, he's always hated for so avidly pursuing Itachi. However, Sasuke has had plently of the limelight and Kishi really does not need to suddenly jump into a long, insufferable arc of Shikamaru chasing after Hidan. I like Shika, but not that much. XD
Now, about that hardcore fan... >___>
Losing sleep and having nightmares over ink and paper? Really, that's when you immediately drop the fandom. Get a different hobby. Get a job. Get a life. Do SOMETHING besides mourn over the death of a fictional character(who I guess is technically not even dead...?). It's hilarious! pathetic.
Besides, no one seems to be losing sleep over Naruto/Kaka having immured Kazuko.
