Hey everyone,
It has been a pretty busy weekend in the Taylor household with the arrival of our newest addition! We arrived at home yesterday after a day & a half of waiting to be discharged from the hospital and we are so relieved to be settling back into normal life again.
JT was born on Saturday, November 17th at 2:38am after 18.5 hours of labour. I was scheduled to go in for induction on Friday, but they were too busy to have me come in. I am glad that I went into labour naturally, otherwise I would have had to wait to be induced today!
The labour was slow and rather painless at first with only a few contractions an hour, so we had a relaxing day at home and even went out for a big lunch and ran a few errands. By 5pm though, things were getting pretty intense and we went in to the hospital. By 11pm it was determined that I was having back labour and I was in so much pain that I decided to go for the epidural, despite my previous decision to go without. I am glad I got it because it was another 3 hours before he was born and with contractions coming every 2 minutes by that point I am unsure how I would have made it. Recieving the IV for the epidural was a horrible experience though, as they couldn't find a vein and had 3 different doctors try 6 times in different spots on my arms before they finally could get a vein that would work. It hurt worse then the labour pains!
After all the pain and work though, JT was born and he couldn't be more perfect. His measurements at birth were 8lbs 1oz and 21+1/4in. His head was mis-shapen for the first 30 minutes in the outside world due to him being stuck in the birth canal because he was facing the wrong way, but it's now perfectly round and covered in LOTS of dark brown hair! He has wide grey eyes and a cute chubby little face. Looking at NB pictures of myself last night confirmed that he has taken after me for the most part, so we're not only fortunate enough to have a boy and a girl, but also have children that look like both of us!
So far his personality has been very mellow and the only thing that he gets frustrated about is when he loses a n****e and can't find it. Today we found out when the health nurse called, that he has a slight case of jaundice that should pass quickly.
Aleksia is adjusting very well to the arrival of her little brother and we have made sure to keep her very involved with him so that she doesn't feel left out of anything.
We're very happy to welcome him into our family smile
~Sam
