THE COLLEGE OF REDDON AND ASSOC.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 26, 2007 2:44 pm

For the third time that morning Abigail phoned her sister with no response. Some say it’s three times the charm. Abigail Reese Monroe never says such things. Her world demanded order and promptness. This day shouldn’t have been different from any other. Wake up at 6:00am on the third ring of the alarm. Shower and do other daily preparations. Eat a breakfast of two scrambled egg and two slices of toast. Catch the 7:26am cab towards the sleepy town of Sherry towards the nationally ranked, elite College of Reddon and Associates, School of Business. Call Yvette twenty minutes before Professor McLowery made his shabby entrance. Every action had its time and place, down to the smallest detail. Except for today.

Yvette didn’t pick up her phone.

Now to an outside observer, this would not be an odd occurrence. Said sister may have company and not wish to talk this early in the morning. Or it could be a simple matter of being in the shower or otherwise disposed and not available to answer the phone.

However, Abigail knew this was not the case.

Her morning calls are expected, even timed for efficiency’s sake. The twins girls were too close to let sex or a shower interrupt this morning ritual. Abigail, who we will soon see is not used to disappointment of any kind, nearly did an about-face in her new Italian leather pumps and returned back to biting cold to seek her sister out if it wouldn’t ruin her spotless perfect attendance record in McLowery’s class. The man may dress like a wide-eyed bachelor with mother’s milk still on his breath but the man had a vice grip on the heart of any student interested in interning at his marketing firm. Attendance was one of those little requirements at kept her in the running.

So she took her seat, like a good honor student. Per usual, Professor McLowery strode in with wrinkles clothes, half-eaten breakfast croissant and his briefcase. It took him approximately 7 minutes to fully set up for class, give or take 2 minutes if the croissant was especially tasty. Laser pointer met projections screen and Advanced Marketing Skills had begun.

------

Two and a half hours later, the course ended and Abigail rang her sister once more. Same result. This was unheard of. She called her father.
“Monroe residence. Who may I say is calling?” One of the many butlers answered, thick Italian accent flooding the speaker.
There was no need for pleasantries. These people feared her father’s power, as they were soon to fear hers. “Let me speak to my father.”
“Ah! Yes, Miss Monroe.” She heard the click of being transferred. Knowing her father, he was in his office. The smell of cherry wood and bourbon flooded her memories. She spent many hours in that room, listening to him yell at one person or another as she played with things that were not toys. Yvette never liked father’s office. Not once did she venture within those large doors of her own accord. Looking back, Abigail could tell that was probably when she and Yvette began their different paths in life.
“What is the matter Abigail?” The stern voice of her father came over the receiver.
“I haven’t heard from Yvette. I’m worried.”
“Hmm.” Abigail knew at the mention of her sister’s name, Robert Julius Monroe viewed the situation differently. To sum it up, Yvette and he bumped heads. Her views and opinions were wrong in his eyes. “She’ll turn up. She’s never quiet for long.”
“But father..” Abigail paused. She was not whining in front of her father. “Yes sir.”
“By the way, your mother wants you two to come home for the holidays. Be sure to tell your sister.” He didn’t even say her name. Inside, that made Abigail sad.
Ever obedient, “Yes sir.”
There was a grunt and the phone hung up. He never said “goodbye”; it wasn’t in his nature. Or hers.
Practiced movements of a habit drew out a flat silver case, engraved with the an eclectic gecko and opened to reveal a row of cigarettes packs together neatly. She removed one, delicately holding it between her fingers. The case was returned to its place and a lighter wit the same gecko was produced. She lit the cigarette, savoring that first taste of menthol. "Ok. I will wait."

------

It wasn’t until a week later that she heard from Yvette, or rather about her. Apparently she had been chosen for a hush-hush study being conducted over at the Reddon Hospital and was not allowed to contact anyone about it. Something about that was not right. It rubbed Abigail the wrong way.
One thing was for certain. The moment Yvette Carlo Monroe was sighted, Abigail would remind her that she was the older sibling and that title meant something dammit.

She opened up her cell phone and dialed Yvette’s cell. She’s better pick up if she knew what was good for her.

The sweet aroma of a cinnamon to her senses overwhelmed the rest of her body. She dipped into steeping water, and dipped her face into the water coming up only a few seconds later to wipe her face with a towel. She pulled out a bar of soap and softly began washing herself clean, getting the pressure off of her body. She washed her face, and then as she finished rubbing it dry, she heard her cell phone going off nearby. She climbed out of bed, and shivered her way over to the cell phone ringing wildly. “Hello?” She asked, her teeth chattering a little as she waited for an answer. She hoped that this wasn’t another annoying prank phone call. ”Who is this number? I don’t recognize it at all. I wonder what these people want. She put a hand on her naked hip, and tapped her freezing foot. She could barely stand waiting.

She soflty smiled and turned towards the candle she had lit, licked her finger, and safely turned the candle off. She then went towards the edge of the tub, and sat down on it, keeping herself from falling. "Hey Tristan. How are you?" She said, paused and then chuckled, slipping into the water, the sound echoeing into his phone as well, basically telling him the situation she was in. "I was hoping you might call later then twenty minutes from now, but, this works as well." She softly laughed, and pulled the wash cloth to her face, washing one half of her face while her other faced the phone.

A pause came after his last remark. The sound of water trickling in the background of her side was all that was really heard. Yvette picked the phone to her ear once more, and turned the conversation back to a healthy version of it. She thought softly, knowing this boy probably want to go on a date with her, seeing he had been so fast to ask of her number. She took a soft sigh, and finally she said "So, Tristan, is there any reason why you decided to call me?" She asked, being very gentle with her words. She knew pushing anyone to tell their reasons was like pulling baby teeth when they refused to give. She knew her question might not register, so she followed up with another, softer remark "If you didn't want to tell though, its quite alright. I was going to call you and ask you about coffee actually. You mentioned it earlier." She said, playing with the soap as she spoke. "Maybe you and I could catch a cup in the morning or afternoon some time. Maybe we could catch more then that though, a conversation in person would be nice." She said, and laughed, her laughter singing into his ears like a sweet violin being played by a master. She was good at deception, but she knew that she couldn't use that on this boy, he didn't sound like he was alright. She paused only to let him talk, knowing she'd have to sound at least happy to hear him regardless if she was butt naked in her bath tub.

She lifted herself from the tub, and as she wrapped herself in a towel, she answered his words with a kind voice. "I'd love to go to a movie with you. This friday works well, so, what kind of movie?" She asked, and pulled her undergarments out, pulling them on, and then putting a stylish brown turtle neck dress. She pulled on matching heels, and then put her necklace on as she said "We can most certainly go to any movie except for one which is super violent or scary." She finished with a shiver. She pulled on her coat, and then put her bag on her shoulder and headed out into the hallway. She continued walking, heading for her last class of the day. She knew that she'd be confronted by Mister President, but, she could care less. Like he had, she was also fairly dusty on this date stuff. The last boyfriend she had was from the summer, and although he was mr. right, he was mr. wrong at the same time. She put her hood up to protect herself from the wind, and waited for a reply from the boy as she held the cellphone to her ear. "Still There?"

She softly smiled, and said "We can always go and see that new movie." She laughed and thought of the last time she went to see any movie. It was some stupid movie about some undercover agent or something. She knew that she wouldn't enjoy this one either, but, there was no space for negative thoughts as of now. "Friday right?" She asked, and then held out her hand as a few rain drops hit her palm. "Uh, Tristan, I need to get going, can I call you later tonight?" She asked, and tugged at her bag, gaurding it from the rain. "Its raining out here, and I don't want to ruin my one connection to my first date in six months." She said, purposely telling him the importance of his existance in her life.

She softly let go of the phone line, and the hurried off into her class, a man at the door holding an umbrella over her head. When noticed who it was at the door, he was already walking the other way. She ran towards him, and screamed out into the rain "Lark! Aren't you going to come to class?" She thought he was coming to class to teach like he normally did. He only turned around and said in his thick acient "Sorry Dollface, I can't teach today, virus matters." He saluted to her, and then walked off into the rain. Yvette knew he what he was talking of, and eventually turned to head into class as the old fashioned class changing service dinged as she entered. A few looked at her with smiles, and other with whispered remarks to their partners. She pulled on a lab coat, and then joined her partner, a scrawny little chinese boy who seemed to care about Yvette's breast size then what procedures she was doing. The professor entered ten minutes later, and as he passed Yvette he smiled kindly at her, and whispered in her ear "My dear, Lark has some concerns about your gift, he says he is extremely worried for your safety. Might I suggest to contact the man after class and seek him. He said he had a few questions to ask you." He then slipped Lark's phone number into her coat, and then continued walking, letting her continue working. All of the people in the room were exetremely tense after that, as if they knew what was going on. The little asian doctor in training beside her smiled, and Yvette gave a little shocked squeal. The professor looked up at her, and smiled, and everyone else followed. They all had fanged teeth, and as she stepped away, one raised their voice and said "Do not fear the gift." And Yvette turned, and dashed for the door. She pulled off her coat, and then took the number from the pocket. She put her bag on her shoulder, and forgot about the coat she had worn into class.

A few moments later, she found herself running outside in the rain, ignoring the people as they turned to smile at her. She rushed underneath a college transport stop, and pulled out her phone. She dialed Lark's number, and within moments, she felt someone brushing against her. "You called?" He asked and then put a hand on her shoulder, causing Yvette to practically jump out of her shoes. She looked at him, and through the rain, she felt his hands rubbing on her face, they were warm to the touch. She took in the feeling, but had to stop herself from accepting his naturally soft gestures. "Why do you alway do that." She looked up at him as he looked down at her. He pulled out an umbrella, and then put it over her head, before he said is a hushed whisper "Its a secret." He grinned, and then pulled something from his pocket. "Take these if you wish Yvette. They might help." He said, and she took them, slipping them into her bag. She turned and said "I don't need you petty medication Lark." She said, and the man went to turn her, but she moved out of his way. He grabbed his hands into a fist, and then frowned "Fine Yvette. Suffer they way I made you." He said, and then turned. He walked away, and let her to soak in the rain and his words.

She hurried home in the rain, curling under her covers, and pulling out her cell. She punched in Tristans number, and composed of herself, and then hit the green talk button. She waited for his voice, and hoped he was still there.

She smiled at his voice and said "Thats a funny way to say hello. What, have you been dreaming about what you were going to say?" She asked, being a sweet sarcastic woman. She was glad that at least some one wasn't crazy in this town. She wondered what he was doing right now.

She laughed and said "Alright but, as long as you keep it clean." She finished with a thought in her head of what he had been thinking of. It quickly left, but, she chuckled quietly.

She came home, and slid into her covers, kicking off her shoes, and throwing off her coat. She pulled out her cell, and dialed his number, walking to her bathroom, brushing her teeth, and then returned to hit the talk button on her phone. She left him a lovey dovey good night message on his phone, and closed her phone and set it on her night stand. She didn't feel like changing into her PJ's, so she just threw off her dress, and curled back into bed, knowing her room mate didn't care because she was hardly ever home. She thought about the boy, and their kisses, and how suddenly she was attracted to him.

She picked up her phone while being half asleep. She smiled at the message she had recieved, and sent him a reply of "I will Tristan." She sent it, and then passed out, she had a lot on her mind.
