(Sorry in advance she's so emo. xD; I really wanted to actively RP her again, but she's got some angst goin' on at the moment.)

Gaia was a strange place. Onoway had never lived anywhere else and still she knew this. In a city where people just adopted babies off their doorsteps, you wouldn't think a place like that would exist. Onoway hadn't even known what one was until everything had happened.

Noharu had killed someone? It was morbid, in some sense, that that hadn't surprised her. Just like that she'd been swept into everything. Her sister, no older than her, was gone now, too. With no living relatives, blood-related or not, Onoway had to go to that place. The word 'orphanage' didn't even sound nice. It shouldn't, she thought, because it wasn't.

It hadn't been so bad up until now. She'd had that cousin of hers up until now. They were never really close, but it was something. It was something. Now, she didn't even have that.

The grouchy old woman who was playing guardian to all the children had sent her out to the store. Milk, bread, eggs, simply things. Onoway had gotten them all, staring downward as she walked out of the store, one plastic bag handle for each hand. Her scarf covered her mouth and most of her nose. When had it gotten so cold? It was only around 6 PM, wasn't it? It sure got dark early.

--Then, it happened.

Two young kids probably out with one of their parents Christmas shopping not watching where they were going was all it took to cause everything to come crashing down. Literally. They'd run into her hard enough she'd fallen backwards, the two bags flew across the sidewalk. A crash, and the former groceries were now just a mess on the sidewalk. The small children apologizing wasn't enough.

What was she going to do? That woman was going to get so angry if she went back with no money and no food. That's what had prompted her just to run, which she did. She ran through streets she didn't recognize and didn't stop till her lungs burned and her legs practically screamed in protest. She'd huddled near the side of a large building--a mall, maybe?--and just shamelessly cried.

Still being voiceless, and with all the 'borrowed' voices she'd had expired, the sobs were soundless but evident to the eyes.

What was she going to do?

Elena had been Christmas shopping, although more for herself than anyone else. It was early, yet, to be buying anything, and this was more in line with a reconnaissance than an actual shopping trip. She'd made a small list of gift ideas for her friends, while a longer list was tucked behind it, consisting of potential presents for herself. Leaving the mall she frequented behind, she stepped outside with a grateful sigh.

It was cold out, finally. Winter was her favorite time of year. The cold, ice, and snow didn't bother her at all. In fact, she reveled in it, keeping the coat she'd worn slung over one arm instead of wearing it. A small bag was held in that hand, separate from the purse slung over her shoulder. Elena had indeed bought something; a small piece of jewelry for her youngest sister Naice to wear.

On her way down the street towards the residence her mother had either bought or rented - Elena didn't care enough to pay attention - she spotted Onoway, sobbing silently, curled up against the wall. Sighing internally, but plagued by a twinge of guilt and...conscience?, Elena stopped. "I'm not going to ask if you're alright. Obviously, you're not," she stated firmly, sweeping her skirt beneath her knees as she knelt down, totally unconcerned that she might be ruining the fabric. "And there is obviously something wrong. So, instead, I'm going to ask if it's something I can help you with." Very likely the girl could; Elena's entire presence dripped 'spoiled rich girl', something she was quite happy with, thank you very much.

By time Elena had found her, Onoway's face had been buried in the two arms resting on her knees. Slowly, very slowly, her teary green eyes appeared, and she did little more than blink as an entire minute ticked by.

The first thing she noticed was that there was a coat slung over the strangers shoulder. Onoway immediatly felt what must be envy. The cold very much bothered her, her wings epescially, yet there was no way to cover a set of ones so delicate as hers without injuring them in the process.

She drew in a deep breath and when she spoke, it was in Elena's voice. "No, it's... I'm okay. I'm sorry, too. For using this." 'This' would be the voice which wasn't hers. They were never hers. Some found it amusing, others shrugged it off, but it had "creeped out" her cousin and bothered some individuals, leading Onoway to always apologize for it. "Aren't you... cold?" she ventured meekly.

Elena waited patiently for Onoway to respond, resisting her strong urge to tap her foot. And when she did finally respond?

"That's really creepy," the girl blurted out, her normal tact and diplomacy erased in one moment of utter weirdness. "Don't you have your own voice?" she asked, parrying Onoway's question with one of her own, although she seemed to be taking it all in stride. Apparently, this was not one of the strangest things the girl had ever been party to.

"No, not really," Elena said nonchalantly, brushing the jacket off, though there was no reason to. "I'm pretty much immune to it." No mention made of how sick heat made her; why reveal a weakness?

Onoway didn't so much as wince at the harsh response. It happened all the time. So much at her 'home' that she'd just stopped speaking there all together unless she had to. When she did, insults were sure to follow. Why would they bother her now, out here, from a stranger? "I don't," she told her.

Finally, she gathered herself and stood up. Her hands brushed her poor clothing off and her wings fluttered rapidly behind her in a pathetic attempt to grasp any kind of warmth. They had a life of their own sometimes.

She listened to what Elena was saying but didn't say anything in response ot it. Hearing her own voice had, understandablely, been 'creepy' to her. She'd try to avoid using it if she could and would settle with just an 'I'm listening' sort of nod.

Elena, while occasionally tactless, was observant. "Is that why you weren't making any noise earlier?" she asked, somewhat sharply. It was...odd, hearing her own voice. One normally didn't get that sort of opportunity, and once the initial weirdness had sorted itself out, Elena actually wanted to hear more. Oh, quite the ego there~

Hair falling over one shoulder as she tilted her head to the side, watching as the other girl stood up, Elena stepped back to give Onoway some room to move. "You need a jacket like my sister's," she murmured quietly. Anarya didn't normally wear such things - her wings were annoying to deal with, and giving off as much heat as the fiery girl did meant cold wasn't a problem most of the time. However, she had a few jackets, more capes, really, with slits down the back to accommodate her extra appendages.

Back to the original question, though. "Really, is there something I can help with?"

The green eyes that had previously been hidden were now sparking wildly. Deep down, Onoway had always been more curious than your average individual, she was just... sort of barred from exploring most things; most things involved speaking, after all. "Noise...? Oh, yes. I don't really think about it anymore."

At the mention of a jacket she tilted her head. She had a jacket on. Not a particularly nice one, but it was alright. What was different about her sisters? Something to do with her wings perhaps? It's not like this person would know, but even the slightest bit of weight on them tended to be irratating. They were pathetic, useless things, pretty as they were.

"No, I just... I dropped...the groceries."

That was certainly interesting; proving that once again, people could adjust and get used to just about anything. Elena couldn't imagine crying and not making any noise - she usually threw full blown tantrums when the occasion called for it.

Pathetic and useless they might be, but Elena was envious of them. Wings were one of the things she'd seen a lot of people with, and they were certainly something she'd love to have, no matter how much bother they might be.

"Then why the fuss?" she pressed. There had to be something else there, some reason why Onoway'd been so upset over groceries. A rather silly thing to be worked up over. If you didn't have any, you just went and bought more, right?

Onoway casted a sidelong glance to the pavement. What could it hurt to tell? At least someone was finally talking to her. She wasn't exactly a social butterfly (no pun intended), but being completely alone? It was a lot to take for someone her age. With her cousin having left to go back to that 'school' of hers, she really was alone, she realized.

"I live with a lot of different people." Just because she was telling didn't mean she was going to go into full detail. Should she be ashamed she was living at a place like that? Because she was. "Someone sent me to get them, and these children knocked me down and they were ruined. If I go back without them she's going to be very upset with me."

Elena didn't see what the big deal was - she lived with a lot of people as well, and none of them were exactly the same. She was obviously sheltered, though, and probably more than a little spoiled, so it was abundantly clear that Elena didn't quite get what Onoway meant.

"And you can't just go buy some more?" she asked, rocking back on her heels slightly in thought. "Well, come on then," the girl said briskly, holding a hand out to the other. "Um, where's the closest grocery store?"
