what do you think about america acting like we need to be the worlds police?
PostPosted: Fri Nov 16, 2007 11:14 am

i honesty think that if other countries are under the control of a dictator and are happy with it then we should stay out of it. also with third world countries, we shouldnt get involved because there is too many problems going on for us already. between inflation and the constant "world police actions" the us is falling into a depression which may never recover. instead of people wanting to take steps forward they are just in it for the big money. how are we going to recoup our losses and start to make good on the national debt (7 trillion) if everybody is concerned with stuffing their pockets and helping out poor nations?

most other nations are not happy under a dictator, they simply lack the means to change it because most dictators forbid thier citizens from owning firearms. We have to act as the world's police to ensure the safety and civility of the modern day world. If we don't do it who will?

If people ar not happy under a dictatorship, they will either flee the contry or change it. Take Cuba for example. I highly doubt Castro said that anyone who would rather live in the U.S. was free to leave, yet they come here anyway. Leaving is a lot easier than revolting, so many people choose that option. Also, you seem to think that the government can stop a revolt simply by forbidding the ownwership of firearms. This is not the case. The protests in Burma show that even an unarmed populace under a strict dictatorship will revolt. The measures taken to quell the revolt have drawn international criticism, and I would support sanctions or an embargo. I would NOT support sending in troops, even as peackeepers, because keeping the peace would prevent these people from moving towards freedom.

Every country in the world is and independent sovereinty. Its government, and its government alone, should decide what that nation will do. If the people are not happy under such a government, they will flee or rebel. Other countries, including the U.S., should limit their response to refusing to trade with them, refusing to allow their officials into their countries, and refusing any kind of aid or assistance to said government. Cubans who make it to the U.S are allowed to stay, not returned to Cuba. Unfourtunantlly, those who do not make are returned, which is a form of assistance and support to Castro's regime. If everyone who made it out of Cuba's territorial waters was granted amnesty, Castro wouldn't have much of a population to rule. His government would have to change or he wouldn't have a country, just a large personal island. There are a million ways we can support freedom and civility without "policing" the world.

it is not as easy as you think to flee a country, the only country that is easy to leave is mexico because we don't have a strong enough border and its touching us. cuba is close to us, now how do you think one would leave a place like iraq or iran.

while prohibiting firearms will not completely stop a revolt how the hell do you expect people to listen to you if you can't kill them. Huh Burma huh? yeah they revolted without guns and guess what did anything in burma change? NO!

how the hell does keeping the peace prevent people from achieving freedom? we keep peace by removing evil dictators.

it would be very easy to flee iran or iraq becase they also have very unstable borders all they would have to do is walk across. we dont need to keep the peace in other countries unless it will affect us directly somehow.
like in africa who cares if they have constant war because we do not get anything from them that we cant get elsewhere. so they are free to kill each other and can leave their countries if they want cause only the fear of death is stoppin them. if we dont get involved then they will live life just like theyve been used to for generations.
