I'm really disappointed in the yaoi subculture. A lot of people
don't even know the difference between Yaoi, BL or even slashing
O-o
Some people instantly think yaoi is yaoi when two males kiss. I
think you guys know that's not true.
I'm sick and tired of being bashed my "Anti Yaoi Fans" saying
that all Yaoi fans are the same. That yaoi fangirls always put things out of context. That yaoi fangirls push their obsessions onto other people
trying to convert others into yaoi fans as well. And many other harsh
things.
The truth is, I agree with this to an extent. I've met, irl and online,
fangirls like this. Where they take their obsession way to literally.
And it's pretty scary. That's not to say that we are all like this, but
many are. The reason I am bringing this topic up is because I was
searching for layouts the other day and I stumbled
on a "Anti Yaoi Federation" website and what the person had written
just felt like she was talking to me. It made me really upset and I wanted
to clarify to that person that not all fangirls are like that.
I don't know about anyone else around here, but I know that I don't go
around trying to "convert" people into yaoi fans, or bash people
for not liking yaoi and then calling them 'gay haters' or homophobic.
I don't think that if you don't like yaoi that it means you are closed
minded. I DO believe that a lot of published yaois are out of context.
My point saying this? Yaoi is a genre intended for women to enjoy.
It is created by woman for woman [that's not to say guys can't like
it either]. It's something you might happen to like, or might happen
to not be interested in.
So, what do you have to say about this?
Have we, as an entire community, been going a bit crazy?
[frankly, I don't think so]
Should it matter what others are saying?
Has this happened to you?
