Hero's Legend Tournament

So I've been thinking of running a tournament for awhile now, and the grand opening of the Xallum City Collosseum has given me enough reason to get off my lazy a** and actually do it. Expect the tournament to be up sometime soon-ish, but don't start expecting anything to happen too quickly. There is a lot of preparation to be done in the way of rules, layout, and bio grading. Yes, I said bio grading. That means all of you entrants will have roughly evenly powered characters.

Due to all this preparation being required, I am going to be enlisting some help. If you would like to help, just send me a PM. I will have positions for bio grading, judging, and just general idea setup.

arrow Battle Locations
All battles will take place within the Xallum City Collosseum, I may open up new threads to have multiple battles going on at the same time, but only if we get so many entrants that it becomes nescessary. If I do this I will probably request a subforum to move it all into. For each battle, the colosseum will be arranged in one of a handfull of different ways. Layouts will span from a wide open dirt floor to a series of rafts floating in a water filled collosseum. Layouts will probably be assigned with random number generator.

arrow Teams
I may or may not allow teams, depending on the number of contestants entering. Teams will have one member fight at a time, and each member will be required to fight at least once. It is encouraged for teams to alternate players through matches, I may make this a rule later. Teams will probably be comprised of two to three people.

arrow Special Rounds
At certain points in the tournament there will be special rounds that may break the general rules of the tournament. For example, a fight requiring two fighters (or teams) to team up against another two fighters (or teams), with an audience vote on which member of the winning team will go on and which will be eliminated.

arrow Bios
Bios will be graded on a scale of 1-20 and will be taken into account when determining who wins in the event of a tie (which will be rare), and will probably have something to do with overall scoring at the end. Other than that, bio scores mean nothing more than being a reference point as to how well written your bio is. Characters who recieve high scores are likely to do better. Having an overpowered character will lower your score if we do not throw it out outright. Having a cliche character will lower the score, as will having a character who just makes no sense.

arrow Prizes
Yep, prizes, what everyone cares about. So here's the scoop. There will be no prize until I get enough entrants to make it worthwhile. Good part there is that there also will be no entrance fee. Once I get around ten people I will institute a 1k entrance fee for everyone, and winner will get the pot. As more people join, the prize pot will go up. When I get enough people I will split the prize pot into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes. If the tournament is a smashing success I may just throw in something really cool for the winner. I have a few ancient katanas, donation letters, all sorts of fun stuff, but no promises on that front.

ALSO! If you would like to donate to the prize pot, all donations will go directly into the pot, regardless of the number of players.

Rules

Tournament will be run on a modified swiss style ladder. Meaning every member or team will have a set of wins and losses. Combattants will be chosen by their score, so people will be fighting people of a similar skill level and the standings will be more accurate. The winner will be the highest scoring individual. If there is a tie winner will be decided by bio score. If there is still a tie or if there is a more than two way tie, the tournament will switch to single elimination and the winners will roll to see who fights first.

If a dispute arises it will be settled by either myself or by my judging staff. I hope to have someone online at all times, but I know that people have lives and I cannot ask them to give anything up to work on this. I myself have classes and such to attend, and I will not ask people to do something that I can't do myself.

If there is no judge available to settle a dispute you may do one of two things.
arrow Solve it yourself. I trust the players to come to an agreement on things and I will not overturn any decision agreed upon by both players.
arrow Freeze the game and wait for someone to get on. Send a PM to all the judges or post it in a thread where we will find it. Someone will come solve your problem eventually.
exclaim DO NOT continue posting without first solving the complaint!

Judging staff has the final word in all disputes. If a judge says something happens, it does. If a judge decides to solve a dispute by having a thousand pink fuzzy bunnies stampede into the arena and tear the two combattants apart, then that's exactly what happens. Arguing with the judge staff will get you a kick in the teeth. That being said, a judge will listen to both sides of the argument discussion before ruling.

Staff

If I could get you all black leather jackets with "STAFF" on the back in big, white, block letters for your avitars... I would.

There are different kinds of staff:
arrow Bio Graders - These guys grade your bios. Be nice to them and don't make them read boring stuff. They'll be nice to you and give you a good grade.

arrow Judging Staff - They're basically here to kick your a**. Remember the judges from Final Fantasy XII? Imagine those, but with the ability to actually hurt your a**. These guys carry the BANHAMMER! Fear it.

arrow Event Staff - These guys make up cool s**t for you to oogle at. They're responsible for making this thing cool just as much as the combattants are, so show them much love. These are also the people who are going to help me with setting stuff up and running things between rounds. It is their job to keep me sane.

Characters

Fighters for the tournament come from all over and are therefore will be very diverse. There are almost no limitations imposed on character creation, and those limits that are imposed are only there to ensure that it is a fair fight. So yes, you can have a sword. Yes, you can have a gun. Yes, you can throw fireballs. That being said, all things will be balanced. Realism will be bent a tad in the intrest of fairness.

PM your character bios to a bio grader, and we will get back to you eventually. Bios with a score lower than ten can be completely resubmitted, bios with a score lower than 15 can resubmit one section of the bio. If a bio is eligable for a resubmit we will send it back with suggestions.

Official Bio Form
Username:
Name:
Description: (A written description of your character's looks, including clothing and the appearance of visible equipment. Do not state what the equipment does, that comes in a later section.)
Traits: (Anything that makes your character unique. Include personality, distinguishing charactaristics like tattoos or scars, attitude, and perhaps even examples of what your character would do in certain situations.)
Equipment: (Told you it was coming. Anything your character carries around that is not obvious or does not have an obvious purpose. Basically any piece of gear that deserves it's own description.)
Abilities: (Here is where bio graders kick people in the face. You have GOT to be descriptive here. Magical powers are all well and good, but describe how they work. Give yourself limitations. "Controls Water" just isn't enough.)
History:

Allright! Wizard of Winter has become our first entrant!

Other news.

If we get enough people to warrant a prize pot and an entrance fee, I'm adding 10k gold to the entrance fees for the pot.

Other Other news, The OOC for this thread has now been moved to the Barton OOC forum. You can find it here.
