Li'tae frowned at Trisste's comment about not living in the human sense of things. He liked to think that even if they weren't part of the human world, as they felt things just as well as a human did, that, in that sense, they were alive. Li'tae almost told Trisste his philosophy, but was afraid to sound any less "Li'tae" around him. For a split second he reflected on how Trisste's view of him actually had started to matter to him. His frown deepened momentarily as that train of thought perplexed him, until he suddenly felt Trisste's face just inches away from his own.

A stunned look crossed his face, and for a brief moment, he contemplated leaning forward, closer to Trisste. But in the few seconds it took for him to work up the courage to do anything, Triste had bounded up and over to the bank of the river. His head falling as he sighed, Li'tae forced a smile and stood up to follow after his friend.

Gazing down at the ice he shrugged.

< Well then, let's try it out =) >

Trisste moved his arms a bit out to his sides as he took a step down and as he foot touched the top of the ice he felt it slide beneath him, leaving him to let out a little shriek of surprise as his legs went up and almost over his head.

< !!! >

He slid a bit as his whole body contacted with the ice, finally stopping as he plowed into a snowbank that had set itself up nicely inside the confines of the river's shore. A little bruised by no worse for the wear, Trisste rolled himself off his back and onto his knees and hands, his face looking up to see Li'tae.

Oh god, he thought. How...mortifying. I hope he wasn't paying THAT much attention.

His face the picture of surprise, amusement, and horror as he watched Trisste not only step onto, but fall and slide across the ice. He couldn't decide if he wanted to laugh at the hacker, or rush to his side. Settling for a mixture of both, he chuckled as he carefully made his way across the ice and to Trisste's side.

He quickly kneeled at his friend's side and placed his hand on his friend's back before concern won out over amusement.

He raised an eyebrow as he couldn't help but make one small jibe at Trisste's expensive.

Inwardly he winced - his usual quick wit and sting had lost out to concern. This was most unlike him, most unlike him indeed.

Trisste felt his face nearly burst into flames with embarrassment as Li'tae touched him and even acted out concern, and he lowered his face down to the ice in a vain attempt to make himself look less like a fool.

< I'll keep that in mind. >

His words didn't come out snappy as he managed to push himself upward, and Trisste finally got to his feet (albeit shakily) after a few moments of near slipping again. He smiled and turned his head towards Li'tae, rubbing the back of his neck in a mock sham.

< There we go, that's not so ba- >

He moved to turn on the ice but slipped once more, his eyes wide as his balance once more ran out from within his grasp. With a slight flail of his arms he made to try and regain what he could, but as the last of his foot left the ice and he was midair Trisste felt himself lean inwards onto Li'tae for support, praying that they wouldn't go do so hard.

Chuckling at Trisste's self deprecation, Li'tae couldn't help but smile at how cute the other hacker could be sometimes. He was about to say so when the other hacker suddenly flung in his direction, having slipped on the ice. Unsure if he should catch the other hacker or move out of his way, gravity and kinetics soon decided for him as Trisste plowed into his half open arms. Li'tae tried to recover his balance, but only succeeded in planting them neatly into the snow.

Opening his mouth to apologize, Li'tae quickly began to blush as he realized that he now lay on top of his friend. Frozen with shock and terror, he stuttered an apology before quickly sliding to one side. Though, he kept his arms on either side of Trisste and his face continued to over just inches above Trisste's.

With his heart pounding, Li'tae moved so close to Trisste's lips he could feel the other's breath on his mouth. Looking into Trisste's eyes, and hoping the other hacker wouldn't freak out, he sent up a fast prayer before briefly touching his lips to Trisste's.

A blush quickly covered his face and he bolted up right, and slid through the snow a few inches away. Not wanting to move too far away from his friend, but also afraid to stay too close. He'd sort of laid it all on the line with that move, and hoped he hadn't guessed wrong.

The embarrassment and worry plain on his face as he made a point of staring into the snow straight in front of him. Too afraid to even look at Trisste after the kiss.

He wasn't even sure what had just happened, as all Trisste found himself remembering was the pounding of his heart in his ears, the warmth of someone else's breath, and the taste of slightly cold lips against his own.

< . ... ... >

Trisste still lay motionless on his back as he tried to collect his thoughts, and after a few moments of silence he blinked as everything forced its way into his mind and reality kicked in.

< ... .... >

Li'tae had just kissed him, and that thought drove Trisste into a mad blush that sent him quickly sitting upright. He spun on his knees so his back was towards Li'tae's frame, and for a moment he stared down at the snow with unsure thoughts of what to say and do.

The kiss had made him happy. Beyond happy actually, but if he said that...and Li'tae had only been playing, what then? What would he do then?

< Li..Li'tae... >

It was better to ask directly, he thought inwardly, instead of worrying about it until they both were sick of it. So with that in mind, he turned himself until he was facing Li'tae, though his head was still down.

< Did...did you...kiss me? >

Staring bleakly at the snow in front of him, Li'tae half wished he could melt away with the bits of snow that fell on his skin. He almost didn't hear Trisste's fervent question, and it took him a few moments to fully register it.

Refusing to turn to look at his friend, he sullenly nodded. Peeking out the corner of his eye over at Trisste, hoping the reaction wouldn't be the one he feared. He didn't really trust himself to talk, and barely whispered a quiet, "...yes." to accompany his nod. He hoped there'd be no need for a discussion on the matter, because he wasn't really even sure why he'd done it. Trisste had just looked so cute at that moment, he'd had the urge to kiss him. And so he had.

Now he only hoped he hadn't done the wrong thing.

Trisste felt a shiver run up and down his spine like a racehorse, and he was pretty sure something must have exploded inside his brain as his ears started to ring. Perhaps he'd gotten really sick after all and was now shutting down, and maybe it was the virus that was making it all this way and not some other absurd emotions.

Emotions. Something he shouldn't have in the first place, he thought, as he was a computer fragment of data. Living data, yet data none the less.

His shoulders shook lightly as he made his way to his feet, slowly swaying back and forth as if it was an effort to keep his balance. Inside his mind he was cursing with how ridiculous this all seemed, how unneeded all these 'feelings' were...yet he found himself standing over Li'tae with his lips pursed and his eyes watering.

< ... ... >

Without any much more waiting or looking, he dropped to his knees in front of the other hacker and wrapped his arms about his frame, unsure if that kiss was a joke or an invitation. Either way he had Li'tae in his embrace...and it felt right.

Stunned as Trisste's arms wrapped around him, Li'tae felt his body fall forward into the embrace. A small, tight lipped smile crossed his face as he silently rejoiced to himself. I didn't make the wrong choice!

Wrapping his own arms around his friend's body, he pulled him tight, and laid his head on Trisste's shoulders. It felt...good...to be held securely. Li'tae felt a blush rise in his cheeks as he realized he didn't want this moment to end. Sighing against Trisste's shoulder, he squeezed his eyes tight in an attempt to force this moment to remain permanently blazed in his memories.

A soft chuckle escaped his lips as a random thought crossed his mind. And here I'd always said I would never settle for one person - and a man at that! Even as that thought crossed his mind, Li'tae knew, that for this moment - he would settle for one person. And that it would, in fact, be a man at that.

Li'tae felt as if he could almost cry for joy at the fact - but didn't want to seem odd.

Trisste's body sort of winced and straightened up as Li'tae leaned against him and for a moment his eyes left his companion and were looking straight up at the sky above him. It was a cloudy gray, and for a moment he felt his feelings falter like that sky above him. He...had it really been returned? He was uncertain, but for now...

He moved to hug Li'tae tighter, and he felt more of a rush as the other sighed against his shoulder. It hadn't been a prank, it was all real, and he felt that last bit of doubt slowly fall away.

It had been all so sudden though, or perhaps it had been building over time, this feeling for the other. Trisste had always found to Li'tae to be rather annoying (rather, as in 'very') but after he'd helped him against Tsuki's unwanted attentions and even taken care to help him out during other times of crisis...it seemed inevitable.

Smiling to himself as Trisste slowly returned the hug, Li'tae was oddly pleased. Sure, it hadn't been picture perfect, but they'd finally gotten over the first hurdle. Even though Trisste had said he'd liked him before, Li'tae hadn't really believed him. He hadn't even been sure of his own feelings until just now. When it felt so right to be held by him.

Hearing Trisste start speaking, Li'tae perked his ears, but froze as he heard Trisste start to say the three words that scared him. Uso had been right - he did fear commitment. Greatly. And to him, those three words represented a sort of commitment. He wasn't ready to say them - or to hear them. He was afraid of that phrase. Odd that he was - since he was supposed to simply be data. Though, he reflected, the fact that they were AI created for the purpose of mimicking human behaviors, it only fit that they were able to feel like this.

He sighed a sad smile as Trisste spoke, and prayed his friend wouldn't finish the phrase - or ask why he'd sighed. It wasn't like him to feel or act this way, and he felt foolish for it.

< I love...the sky in winter. I think I'll love this sky...forever. >

Trisste's eyes stayed on the beautiful gray even as he felt the movements of the figure in his arms, and at the sigh he turned his head down and frowned softly.

Sure, Trisste was happy about this outcome...but perhaps they'd rushed it? Maybe Li'tae only responded like this because he was confused, or perhaps trisste was pushing too hard. It's not like he was desperate for Li'tae's touch and couldn't live without him. Instead it was more...reassuring.

Perhaps then...he had been mistaken? At that thought Trisste's eyes widdened and held a look of small terror as he stared at Li'tae, his heart shaking inside his chest.

Dear god. Don't let it be a mistake.

Unfreezing at his friend's mention of the sky, Li'tae breathed a tiny sigh of relief. Glancing up with a small smile on his face as he thought how much he liked Trisste, and how happy he was Trisste hadn't asked him to take another leap just yet, he froze again as he saw the tiny look of terror on his friend's face. In his ears he could hear Trisste's heart pounding, and with slow realization, it dawned on him how his friend must have taken the sigh.

Panic hit as Li'tae tried to think of a way to make that sigh go away. To take away his friend's worries - without uttering that phrase. Tilting his face up, he looked into Trisste's eyes, hoping they mirrored what he felt inside better than he could ever say. A sly smile perched itself on Li'tae's lips as it hit him in an instant just how he could ease Trisste's fears.

Sitting up so that his face was level with Trisste's, he untangled his arms and placed his hands delicately on his friend's face. With that same sly smile, he slowly, painstakingly brought his face closer and closer until he brushed his lips against Trisste's. With a little more force than the first time, Li'tae kissed his friend, trying to project all of his feelings into the short, sweet kiss.

Abruptly ending it, and standing up, Li'tae gave his friend a soft smile and extended his hand to help him up.

Hoping that didn't sound cold, or like a lame excuse to leave before his face turned beet red, he kept his soft smile in place as he gazed down at the one he was slowly realizing he loved.

Trisste's lower jaw slacked a bit as Li'tae pulled away from their kiss, and he stared up at him dumbly as his partner rose to his feet and turned back to look at him. It took him a few moments to register that Li'tae had spoken, and evben a bit longer to see the hand that was extended down towards him.

A bright smile, like one of a child, slowly spread across his face as he timidly reached his hand out and touched the fingertips of the other. At first his hand drew back at the slightest touch, but after inward chiding about how stupid he was being, Trisste fully reached out and felt his hand being held by the one before him - the one he was learning to love more.

He smiled as his hand stayed inside the touch of Li'tae's own, and as he was finally pulled to his feet he felt the blush deepen and then lighten on his face once he stood in full by the other, and as they turned to walk towards the exit Trisste took one look up at the sky.

< Yes. Let's go. >

Together.
