It had been a warm day, almost unusually so, but as the sun set past the tall grassed horizon, the air cooled slightly as a breeze picked up. The shifting colors of the sky reflected brightly off of a few lazy clouds that meandered across the sky. A few pinpricks of light began to show in the darkening cover.
Kushan's large form moved with a practiced, yet nonchalant elegance. His young, and foolhardy vanity allowed him nothing less. He was at the age where he needed to find a mate, and he had spent much time practicing to show his fine coat and wings off to their best advantage. The latter fluttered slightly in the evening breeze, and Kushan purred in pleasure at the feeling. His golden gaze roamed the prairies, searching for something, yet he knew not what. As a cub, he had been secluded from others, living in almost complete solitary. Now, he longed for company and the presence of another.
With a sigh, he changed direction slightly to head toward the nearest stream for a drink. As he reached in, he leaned down and drank from the cool water, slaking his thirst, before he reclined by the edge of the water to sit in silence.
