Is it just me, or do all the recent Final Fantasy games allow you to give every character every ability? Look at X, X-2, and XIII. At the end of it, you probably have characters that are different by appearance only. Well, appearance, and limit breaks.
I miss building characters that were unique from each other.

Yeah, me too... Really, all of them since VII except for IX have been like that, right? That's one of the reasons IX is my favorite.
X is sort of in between... I did like that you could make anyone do anything, but it would take a lot of effort to make, say, Auron a white mage. It's kind of realistic, you know? But in the others, it hardly matters at all whom you pick to have in your party. It's especially bad in XII because not even the weapons are exclusive. It gets boring to level up...
(I know in at least some of the old games, anyone could have any weapon, but I didn't like it then, either.)

I kinda like it... I mean, I don't like having characters that can do everything, but just becasue I can have that doesn't mean I do it. (did that make any sense?)
Not to say I'm totally against having separate jobs, but I really dislike it when you have to level up eight different characters or 20 different classes just to be able to beat some bosses.

It was nice to have separate people being separate classes. I mean how can some characters know how to do all that stuff so easily, Right?
Sure it is a bit strange, but I guess for those people who want Vaan to be a white mage it's a nice enhancement.
I'm also with a Raven on the FFX thing. If you wanted to make someone something completely different...it wasn't going to be super easy.

i like it, it gives you the opportunity to make each person distinctive, but it also gives you the freedom to have people with all the abilities if you want

i prefer the games w/ characters that have unique abilities. Final Fantasy VI is a prime example. while you can make it where everyone knows every spell, they all have different weapon sets and abilities, and that can totally alter what kind of strategy you use, which makes battle all the more interesting...

I like final fantasyX, even X-2, because in x-2 everyone could learn every ability, but they could only use them in different jobs, so there was still uniquness there.lol.
But in X12, there were no bounderies, and no uniquness in the character skill buildup. NOrmally when I beat a FF game, I reply it at least twice, but I could only go through it once...because it was boring.
Understand?

You know what was good? VII was good. Everyone could equip materia, but weapons were specialized and some characters were more suited to certain types of attack.

ArikaiHart You know what was good? VII was good. Everyone could equip materia, but weapons were specialized and some characters were more suited to certain types of attack. I agree. But did you ever notice that Cloud was versed well in both attack and magic?. Which worked out nicely, he was like an uber powerhouse.

Yeah, that was really great. It meant you didn't need a full-time mage.

i like that you can broaden your characters abilities and make them able to do whatever you want them to do....but i do miss the individualisticness of the characters as well
