A man who felt too much
A man with scars too deep
A man whose name meant only fear and scorn
My thoughts.
Erik vs. Raoul:
As far as I know, I have no cause to hate or even dislike Raoul. I have nothing against him, he's a nice guy. I like Erik more, though, since I can identify with him more. Erik is much more musically inclined than Raoul. Erik is used to having people choose others over him, while Raoul is popular and social. Erik is normally shunned (though there is no reason why he should be, if someone can just look past his face) while Raoul is normally squeed over by ballet girls etc. Erik tends to have exaggerated emotions, while Raoul normally keeps these under control. All these things draw me toward Erik, plus the fact that he's got all these awesome talents that I love, but they don't cause any hatred toward Raoul.
E/C vs. R/C:
Often I face this question. Should Christine go with Erik or Raoul? As far as the realism goes, I actually think that Raoul would be a better partner for her, since Erik is too emotionally unstable to try to live with anyone at the time. However, I am full of pity for Erik. In my mind, a perfect ending would be Christine deciding to stay with Erik, but with changes in their characters. Christine would learn to love Erik for what he really is, and Erik in turn would learn how to live with a loved one for real. And Raoul? Hopefully he can find a new girlfriend, these things don't always turn out how we want them to.
