I didn't know where to put this, but I need to ask this question...
How do you sit in a packed bus or train and not flatten out a petticoat?
I was thinking about this on my last bus trip to my boyfriends family's house, I have yet to travel in a petticoat because I am afraid to flatten it!

Well, it varies from person to person. This actually comes up at least once every few months in some community or another. So. Yeah.
Some just ignore everything but themselves and act as if they didn't have it on, compressing it only to sit down or get out of someone's way. If it's crowded, a few others have suggested wearing bloomers and taking the petticoat off, putting it into a collapsible duffel bag until you reach your destination, and then putting it back on.

A good petticoat shouldn't flatten out after being sat on. Unless you sat on it for a few days/weeks. O_o It should survive a train ride. :] Or a bus ride. Or you could wait until you arrive at your destination, run in the bathroom and then put on the petti in there.

-C'est la lune qui conduit la danse...-
Usually when I travel on the bus/subway and stand up after sitting, I just quickly ruffle it a bit to regain its poof.

This happens to me quite frequently ^_^' but i more or less just let it do what it will without it enveloping anything/person... the most trouble i have is passing by desks during school and knocking things off ^^" then it becomes a bother.
but i usually sit on it... and the fluffy in front sort of pull it to yoursides so that it doesn't get in the way of the person nest to you if you are sitting

Seraphynthetic Or you could wait until you arrive at your destination, run in the bathroom and then put on the petti in there. good idea when i sit, i'd move it out from underneath me so i wouldn't squish it

Since this has been answered several times, I'm going to move it to the FAQ subforum to kind of "archive" it for the time being. (:

When I take the train here in Yokohama it usualy isnt to crowded and I just stand.
In tokyo, its hard because its so crowded, i stand, always and when i get off i usualy go to the bathroom and attempt to re-fluff the petti as much as possible sweatdrop Probably why my petti's get flat so often, i travel to much on trains.

though these are somewhat frowned upon i find that metal wired petticoats are very much unaffected by this rule. a small wire, though, it will just never lose it's shape. or that's how it's worked out for me, so far. i honestly don't own another type of petticoat, i have one but it was just a bad buy so i'm afraid to try again.
