Lithanus Lazarus The Resurected Illusion and magic are two seperate things. (houdini was ilusion as are moder magicians (Chris angel, david blane etc). Bu tthe actual chaneling of spiritual forces for ones own purposes is definitely magic, but here's a concept for you all. magic can be used for either good or bad ends, and it was Christians who feared the use of magic that burned inocent people at the stake just in case. so who realy are the evil ones here? Actually a lot of factors went into the witch burnings that you can't blame all of Christianity for. It was a mix of corrupt religion due to the fact that it was intertwined with a corrupt government, and mass hysteria. As for true sorcery, if its not through God, who else could it be from? Can't be us. True . . . Lithanus is right in the fact that not "ALL" witchburnings were caused by christianity. While it was christianity that set the initial hysteria, it turned into a bloody game of politics and greed. And in the end when you look back into the stories you will find that it those people incharge of the witchburnings, self-proclaimed witch-hunters, & and those who performed the accusations of others. All had alterior motives, and they were usually for self gain.
But . . . the witchcraze and burning hysteria are due in large part to the christian influence throughout Eastern Europe. And oh man, I'm not even going to get started on the puritans ::shivers:: evil . . .

Lithanus As for true sorcery, if its not through God, who else could it be from? Can't be us. Sorcery and Magic are also completely different thigns, but you would have to study magic to know that.
Sorcery is often in bad connotation with "black" magic (even though magic has no color) or dark, malevolent forces.
True Magic, however, is the energy that flows through every living creature on gods green earth. It flows through god, it flows through you it flows through me, It is ever existing and ever flower. So I guess your answer would be, it comes from the divine, it comes from "God".

Honestly I've never read the books so I'm not going to attempt to judge their various merits. I didn't choose to avoid them because I didn't want to be exposed to "witchcraft." I actually attempted to read the first one and found it boring.
That being said, I think that it is perfectly fine for someone to read them as long as everything is taken with a grain of salt. God has called us to question everything.
1 Thessalonians 5:21-22Quote: Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil. He wants us to be able to clearly distinguish between what is evil and what is good. If you read the books and find that they make you think darkly, then they probably aren't the best read for you. However, if you are able to hold on to the good and realize that it is just a fictional novel, there really isn't a big problem.

Axel of the Key Now, I know half the earths population likes Harry Potter. I despise it totally, but for a good reason. It says in the Bible that all magic belongs to the devil, so no magic can be used for good. In Harry Potter, it states that wizards can be evil and good. You'll probably say, "So, magic isn't real!", but it is real! The devil uses it, and it is not right for kids to think that if there was magic it could be used for good, because it can't. What do you all think? Personally I love the fiction. The books are well written and have depth. (WHich I had been having troubles finding in good fiction books.) However I beleive that it really depends on whom is reading the books. When I started reading them (I was in about 5th grade) I started reading them because everbody else was reading them, and at the time I had just moved into a new area, So I guess I started reading them to break the ice, and have somthing to talk about with my class mates. But I became addicted to the books. I couldn't put them dow LITERALY!! I have read the harry potter books 1-4 over 30 times in a one year period. I really wanted to become a which. I did. However my family (On my mothers side anyway) was deeply disaproving. and I guess that is what saved me. Thanks to my family's love of god, and love of me I figured it out in time. Though I still do enjoy those books. You simply have to come to the understanding that these books are worldly. and nothing of the earth should be of any value to you. However for some people (including the past me, not any more though...) it really does have a huge impact in their daily lives a person can be consumed. (One of my friends from back then is still trying to become a which. if ever you think of it, send out a prayer for her. she was raised in a non-beleiving enviornment. And when ever confronted, even ever so gently about christ she shrinks back within herself. What she is doing is very serious she e-mailed me recently, she is now PRACTICING wichcraft) Though I do not soely blame the books, I find the closer I come, and the more I learn of christ, the less I have come to think of these books. (However I still enjoy them, they are excelent peices of fiction) (My case may be a one in a million but it happens)

Rowena Marion Takai_desu_yo Weirdo55 According to the Bible, Chi, since it is not a tool of God, is a tool of Satan, so yea, it is bad. so, a Screwdriver is a Tool of Satan? WE know it is not a tool of God, so it must be, right? Excluding those Blessed by the Pope. xd xd What about hammers? (sorry, couldn't resist) nope jesus was a crapenter and hammers were used then so would could say by association that hammers are already a tool of christ.

Ar-ca-nus It'sa bad influence on kids but you've ot to admit thre special effects are awesome! how is it a bad influence? it's already been noted what a good role model harry actually is. i mean these kids should know that they can't really use "magic" unless they are born with it. (it's right there in the story line)

Yes, I do agree that God said all magic is evil. And to get it straight, God does not perform magic, but miracles-i think that's how u spell it.
Personallly, I think Harry Potter is one of the best movies made. Though the evil is present, it is hidden by portraying it as evil and good.
And magic is more than real. I have actually seen it.

I believe that everyone is blowing this way out of poportion and think we should stop looking at the bad stuff and look at the good stuff. The way I see it, the Harry Potter Series is just like you and I. We are preparing ourselves for the final battle with Satan (Voldemort) and some died because they stood up to him. But as magic isn't leaving Harry God isn't leaving us. He is in it to win and so are we. I see dumbledore as Jesus, he sacraficed himself for the greater good. At school I am known as the Goody-too-sho preacher girl (and I'm okay with that), but when you ask me about the H.P. books I can tell you every detail and some of the other kids in FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) say that I am just a poser. Just beause i believe that someone can read the H.P. books and still be a good person, doesn't mean that I am not a Christian. I would follow God even if he told me to go to Iraq right now and witness to people while I am getting shot at by our troops, but NO ONE could ever convince me that J. K. Rowling was trying to start an occult by writing these books.
I wonder do you hear yourselves? Have you ever heard the song One Tin Soldier? Two cities are fighting over a treasure and when there is only one city left they open up the treasure and find the saying, "Peace on Earth." Good doesn't want us to be talking bout how Harry Potter might or might not be a bad inflence on us nd the political leaders can just stop worring about us because the little kids they were talking about when the books started to come out re teenagers now and we have MINDS... Guys just look at yourselves...... I believe that God doesn't care wether or not H.P. started n occult all he cares aboout is ridding the world of evil and never having it hurt people again. So, please just stop bickering over something petty and start changing lives in your communities.
As an old country and western song puts it ....... THATS MY STORY AND I'M STICKIN' TO IT.
In Christ, A Diciple, Follower of God and reader of the Harry Potter series.

I personally have read all the books, and find them to be marvelous works of fiction. As long as one keeps them at a distance there shouldn't be a problem. Its only when people begin to believe a work of fiction is real does it become a problem.

im a christian and i go to church every sunday and wendsay, and even though i read the books dosent make me a bad person, or a follower of the devil, and it dosent mean im going to hell! i guess i am one of those people who say, "its ok because magic isnt real" because it isnt! if i take a stick, point it at somebody and say avada kedarva, it dosent maen there going to drop down dead and die. thats what it sounds like your saying. harry potter is just a book that keeps readers intertained. its like twilight, they talk about vampired but that doesnt mean they are real and the devil is makeing an army of them to kill the human race and destroy god. i go 100% with harry potter and will support J.K. Rowling all the way!
