Phew, finally got around to responding to this.
Okay, I have quite a few suggestions... web design is something I'm passionate about, so some of my criticisms might be a little harsh... please bear in mind that this is just my opinion from my experience, and its possible that I'm wrong. Here we go:
- defintely find a better host than Angelfire. I'll be making another post about web hosting and domain names, so hopefully we'll be able to find a nice ad free host for you (or at least some kind of ad bocking script)
Splash Page- Black writing against that dark purple background is hard to read. Try a lighter background, or a very pale colour for that heading (although that might not suit the feel of the site as well...)
- Times New Roman is an evil, evil font. It's hard to read and not particularly aesthetically pleasing. Try Arial, Helectiva(sp?) or Verdana for sans-serif fonts, or Garamond or Georgia for serif fonts.
- to make the site look more professional, try changing the colour of the links. Just add this bit of code:
between the tags of the site, and change the hex values to suitable colours (that blue is very hard to read against the purple). You can also do cool effects like getting rid of the underlines, or making pictures appear when someone hovers over a link (hooray for CSS!)
- the menu might be better across the top under the heading, or down the left hand side of the page. That seems to be the convention for websites, so people look at those areas first.
Neopet page- centered text is hard to read, because the eyes have to return to a different position each time after a line break. I'd try to stick with left aligned text, and save center aligning for headings.
- techincally, there isn't anything wrong with a starry background. But its used too often on badly designed sites, so it has a bit of stigma attached to it
sweatdrop It also sort of distracts from the content. Solid colours , or very simple tiled images work well for backgrounds.
Wiccan Page- same as the neopets page.
- I'm probably wrong, but do broomsticks really have much signifance to Wiccans? They remind me of Harry Potter, or of the typical fairy tale idea of a witch riding a broomstick, which probably isn't the feel you were going for...
- maybe try and get a better resolution picture of the hexagram?
- you weren't kidding about the Pagan Creed page >.<
Okay, you have a few basic design issues, but they are all the traps that most people fall into when they start designing web pages. And hey, you were only 14 at the time. Work on it a bit now that you're older (or start a new page?) and I'm sure you'll come up with something much better.
