Jubs was down near the border between Harbor and Middling, staring into a puddle. He fingered his pointed, furry ears with one hand, and gripped his new staff with the other. After meeting with Hermes in a dream, or spirit realm, or something, he'd woken up in an alley. He wasn't sure how he got there, but it most likely had something to do with him getting older. Not so much bigger, though.
His new tail twitched in annoyance. "You couldn't have made me taller instead of the tail?" He asked Hermes, his tone terse.
"You needed that more than you needed to be tall. Besides, it looks good on you."
"Says the guy who wears a dress."
A few people wuld stop at the end of the alley and gawk, but a growl sent most of them off. At least he could intimidate people now.

Fish was on his way towards Middling, looking for trouble, or something like it. Poseidon kept going on and on about sensing a disturbance and he was out to see what was up. He had a bad-ish feeling, but that was okay. He could handle it. The city had been drenched in the last week as the autumnal rain bands passed through, so there was plenty of standing water for him to use for his magic.
That way, intoned Poseidon, nudging him down an alley. Fish blinked for a moment at the figure he spotted sitting on the sidewalk as soon as he turned.
"Wait," he muttered. "I know you..."
The boy who caught the rat...
"Jubs?"

As he looked up, the growl left his throat as he realized who it was. "Fish, right?" The last time he had seen him, he'd helped him through a shortcut to Harbor. That had been a long time ago though; back when he had just been inducted into the Game.
He walked over, and he couldn't help notice the height difference. Damn Hermes. "You ah, caught me at an awkward time. I wasn't like this yesterday." Fish had had the same growth spurt at some point, he assumed.

"It happens," shrugged Fish, noticing the boy was still abnormally short, but he had been like that when they'd met, hadn't he?
"Weird summer, wasn't it?" asked Fish, referring to the monsters. They seemed to be gone now. "Weather's changing now, though."

He nodded. "It certainly was. Did you end up having to kill any monsters?" Now that he was older, he thought ahead a little more. It would be interesting to find out how strong Fish was.
"Don't remind me." He muttered. "I hate when it gets cold." He would need to steal some new clothes soon.

"A crazy-a** whirlpool thing," nodded Fish. "How about you?" he asked
"I hate cold weather, too," he agreed, "After a certain point it's too chilly to swim."
He felt relaxed with Jubs. Poseidon hadn't alerted him of any hostile alliances yet, so he felt safe.

"Some big ugly thing in uppers. Damn thing killed some...former acquaintances of mine." He still hadn't come to terms with the death of his parents. There was too much baggage left behind by their death.
"I'm going to have a problem here, soon. Gotta find some new hiding places. The old ones are too small now."
Jubs too, felt he could relax. Fish had never done anything to hurt him. He was thinking clearer now, and thinking things through better. A consequence of growing up, it seemed.

"Downer's will be killer this time of year," nodded Fish. He remembered seeing freezing casualties somewhere in the thousands for last winter, and undoubtedly they would be just as high this year. He'd always wondered a bit about Jubs, though. Was he a real homeless kid from the Street, or was he like so many of them, cast out after joining?
"You notice any weird folks following you lately? Men and women in black suits and sunglasses? Kinda sharp looking?"

"Yeah, it always is. Maybe it'll be a bit easier now that I'm bigger though." He could only hope. His powers were one of the only things that had kept him alive though the years.
Jubs was a combination of both. Cast out because of his mutations, but lon before officially joining the game. Himself, he knew very little of Fish's situation. Did he still live with his parents? What district was he from?
Blacksuits were something he'd heard of, but had little experience with, as they rarely came to downers. He shook his head. "I haven't, but if they are, I doubt they can keep up with me. Why, have they been following you?"

"They've been trolling around my house," said Fish, shrugging, "But I'm out of there now, so my parents are safe from them. Plausible deniability."
He shifted from foot to foot - it was getting nippy out, and he was cold.
"Look out for them. They're bad news."
