People wear them in different ways.
btw, divash, shtreimels are only worn by certain kinds of chasidim. chabad chasidim start wearing a black fedora when they turn 13.

Hmn. I've tried it on, and it sits well at the back of my head (mother confirmed that's how it's supposed to sit), which is nice. It lets me play with my bangs, which are pretty long. <3

I know, but I figured I should offer a broad generalization rather than bog down everyone with way too much information. Just the one time, I chose not to lecture. wink

Dis Domnu, the kippah should sit at the 'crown' of your head, on top but a little bit to the back. It's where most people's first bald spot forms, that the kippah will cover.

You can keep it on with bobby pins, kippah clips (also known as clip barrettes), or a kippon (velcro strips). With the texture of your hair being straight and fine, rather than curly and coarse, I'd suggest the kippah clips/clip barrettes or the bobby pins. Velcro works best with curly hair.

I actually got bobby pins tonight, and they're working well.

I really like wearing the kippah. It sits comfortably on me, it lets me style my hair how I like, and it's a more visible sign of my being Jewish than the magen david necklace I wear.

Any chance we could get Gaia to start carrying Kippot on here?
I have a selection to choose from at home, but not much here.

I'm sure we could get them to carry kippot here, but do you really want that? Imagining all the observant Jews wearing them is kind of an appealing thing, but suppose they also get bought and worn by people who don't understand the point of a kippah? Someone wearing a kippah acts like a jerk in a thread, flames someone with comments in their profile, gets banned for sharing inappropriate photos... Even if they're not Jewish, they look Jewish by virtue of the kippah, and thereby bring insults and shame to all of us. I'm pretty happy that Gaia doesn't have any Jewish-oriented items, for that reason.

I do wish that they had more modest clothing options, that were still kind of fashionable, but... \/\/hatever.

I agree. We don't need kippah in Gaia. There are plenty of head covering options already available. There are also more trendy modest clothing for guys, than girls, on here. And Stitches has a good example of a Jewish looking avatar using the already existing items.

Yeah, he does look good, but I'm more modest.
I agree that people who are not jewish wearing kippot does seem to strike me in the wrong way...
I just want a simple head covering.
And trust me, I've been through everything.

On the topic of my kippah again: I love it so much that it's replaced my other hats in everday wear. I'll still be wearing my tophat for certain events, as well as my cadet hat (I'm displeased with the hat hair it gives me D=<). Day to day wear, though, goes to the kippah.

Yay, a new fashion option! Go, Dis Domnu!

Actually, there are so many really great kippot out there, that I wish it were considered appropriate for women to wear them, in my Orthodox community. Especially women's kippot, which can be very ornate indeed. I even have some, from back when I was Reform. They just don't look right with my current attire, plus there's the whole "Why would you wear a man's hat?" thing, and I don't like having to explain myself.

So far, I still love it. And my friends love it too.
