Oh my lord, this things have some vicious HP and TQ man, you know what's having 4 V8's, two ALLISON airplane v12 engines or better yet, 4 Giant jet turbines on a tractor, i don't wanna imagine those beasts on a tug-o-war with mining trucks,(battle of the Goliaths) both trannys can withstand a lot of pep, so it's really hard to say.
What do you think?

The Cat 797 would win, no contest.

In a tug of war, it's not so much power as it is weight.

It's still unsure, "The General" super tractor has 4 jet turbines, each can easily pull about 15,000 pounds, multiply that times 4, then it'll leave you wondering.
But it's simple, they just have to do it to see who would win.

true, the cat doesn't have as many engines that the tractor has...

but in this case, weight is the most immense factor. a good way to imagine this is to take a honda civic Si, say... a 1999... with a K20 motor in it with 4 individual throttle bodies, grid chipped ecu, the works (like i'm gonna list the s**t you can do to those, lol i'd be here all day) and make it have a tug-o-war with a stock Ram SRT-10. (this works because you're taking say a 600 to 800hp civic and putting it against a 500hp SRT-10)

The tires would spin and produce copious amounts of smoke, but it wouldn't budge and would be pulled towards the SRT10 if the SRT was also moving back.

When you have similar variables it's the weight that matters.

...at least that's my reasoning... if anyone finds a flaw please correct me.

i don't know who would win but i would love to see it. Some one should set this up.
I think that you guys are taking this all wrong though. it's not the weight that really matters it's the friction. The tractor would have less friciton and wouldn't be able to tow the mamoth 797 because it's tires would be moving at an alarming rate while the tractor isn't going anywhere. The jets would provide some force but not enough because the 797 has a lot more wheight which means it has less of a tendency to move. Assuming that the tires are at least of a fair quality it would have a lot more traction so it would be able to move the tractor like it was a paper weight dispite the 4 jet engines. it also would depend on the surface if you where on dirt or concrete
here's the better question. What kind of chain could you find to set up this tug of war that wouldn't snap?
If anyone ever sets this up (which i seriously doubt anyone would lend out there jet propelled tractor and mining equipment) please put a video on you tube and send me the link i'm really interested in the outcome and the raw power involved.
Oh and if anyone could find the mass or weight, and force or power of these two vehicles i'd apreciate that.

Because I have nothing better to do, this is why the CAT 797 would win.

The pulling tractors in the pictures are in the USA Pulling Unlimited class. They must weight at least 7800 lbs, and are aloud a number of engine and drivetrain combinations, but they must all drive the rear wheels and the rear wheels only (The turbine tractors don't use the engines like a jet truck, they connect to a drivetrain like the V8 tractors). They can pull up to 65,000 lbs each.

The Cat 797 weighs, without a load, a massive 1,375,000 lbs, and gains an extra 380 tons when loaded.

So, even if you were to hook 4 Unlimited class tractors up to a 797, that would only be 260,000 lbs. Add the fact that the 797 is also adding resistance to the tractors.

Because the Pulling tractors don't have enough power to move the mass of the 797, by law of physics, they can't win.

My vote's on the Allison V12. You can't help but love the P-51 Mustang (why Ford had to design a shitty car with the same name is beyond me).
