Sorry about the all caps, but I'm just THAT excited. I've ordered my John Petrucci signature Musicman guitar. If you've ever played one, you know what I'm talking about.
A story goes with it, one of a bit of ignorance: Some guys were in the music store one day that I was looking at the Redburst John Petrucci model. They wore all black and from what they were playing, they did some grunge or metalcore stuff. They kept trying out all these $700 jacksons and Ibanez's and some LTD guitars. what struck me was that they kept looking for a guitar that looked cool, but they didn't seem to be interested in what it sounded like at all. I don't understand this logic, but they walked right by the petrucci, the most metal sounding guitar in the whole store (and it was. I plugged it in after they were done, didn't change any amp settings and the thing just sang out of the amp).
I guess for a discussion, what do you look for when you browse guitars?
Personally, I look for guitars that wow me. They have to play great, sound amazing and really look classy.
Another discussion topic could be: What about signature model guitars? Do you stay away from them for fear that they may make you sound like their signature owners?
Have fun xd

I do admit that I am guilty of going for looks.......wait nevermind I only have one guitar.I went for the only good one they had which was a Les Paul. The others were Squiers so I didn't really care for them. I would probably go for looks though I mean if I didn't know the manufacturer or anything.Unless there is one guitar that I ABSOLUTELY know is good in sound and everything. Me feels like such a n00b......

I go for looks at first xD I know, shallow, but that's what gets me interested in guitars. The exception is if one of my favorite guitarists or one from a band I like then I get interested in their brand, then I'll try out almost every guitar from the brand :3
I'm a big fan of Ibanez's, and my favorite guitarists use it, and that's what got me into it at first.

Actually, the first thing I look for is action/playability. Because I usually replace most pickups anyway! xd I'm a hardcore Seymour Duncan fan! I also like EMG's. I played on some interesting pups called "Blackouts" I can't remember the brand name, it's either one of the previously mentioned or DiMarzio. Anyway, they were phenominal. But at the price they were set at --300$ screw that y'know?

The first thing I think of is looks. If I don't like the guitar, I won't play it very often, so why get a guitar I hate the looks of? Second thing I go for is playability. The single thing I hate more than anything else in the world is fret buzz, so if a guitar has an ounce of it anywhere, it gets bumped very far down my list. Last thing I consider is the hardware. Does it have a tremolo? What kind? What brand tuners are in the headstock? Will I want to change out the stock pickups immediately, or are they decent enough?
And I actually rather like a lot of signature model guitars, although it gets on my nerves a little if they're too obvious. Even so, I want that Synyster Custom that Schecter makes. Effing SWEET.

I look for guitars made out of a certain wood and tremolo first. Then I look at playability, familar brands, then looks.

Well, Playability and sound is what i look for first, but I need to have one that I like the looks of also, I just went guitar shopping the other day and put a Jackson Warrior. It has custom Dimebag pickups, and sounds amazing.

the first thing i do is stay away from fender. got one, its good, just too brite for me. but when it comes down to it i look for a set neck, and now a stop tail bridge. then it comes down to pups, and action. i'm just a rthym guitarist, so action dosent bother me too bad, also playing an acoustic some helps me there, but i do like fast necks. the last thing i realy look at is looks. sure its cool to look at them, and if they have a set neck then i would give them a chance.

Looks! hahah.... i dunno.. i could easily tricked by visual object.. if it's visually attractive then i'll come closer n enjoy it.. The same on guitar... biggrin looks... razz then how comfortable i'm when playing it.. and then sound... hahah.. smile my oppinion.. as long as the sound don't go wuzzy or buzzing all the time, you could make u'r own kinda sound (as a signature) and as long as u're happy playing it.. the sound must be enjoyable smile (only a one man's oppinion heheh) My weapon of choice now is an Ibanez Rg Custom, black body with maple wood textured stripes, neck through.. with a seymour duncan humbucker '59 on the neck and JB on the bridge.. but.... i always wanted a Washburn N4 signature model.... hahaha... and again.. i go for the looks first biggrin

So they hella cool.

I really try almost everything there is, until you get the "feeling"
You know, the one that just makes you say HOLY s**t! This is the best guitar in the world!
I really have only got the feeling once, but its still so perfect.

I guess when I shopping I go for; 1: Look (Who wants a POS guitar that sounds good?) 2: Feel (I want an axe that feels comfortable on me) 3: sound (Sound is important, but not at the top for me) 4: Brand (I go for ESP, Dean, Or maybe Gibson. The popularity of the guitar makes me feel better when holding it) 5: Durability (I like a guitar that can take a few bumps and dings here and there. And how well it stays in tune)

i want a guitar that when i put it in my lap it feels like a 16 year old virgin. (i of course am 16) it also has to have great playability and a neck that feels so comfurtable my fingers themselves sing. looks are not really that important to me, though it is always nice to spend the rest of your life with a hotti! mrgreen
