Hello and welcome my friends! Here is a chronicle of aquatic adventures as scribed by you! Any written prose is welcome here, from haiku to song lyrics to short stories! Anything you please. Any written contests will also be kept here, during which submissions will be closed in order to keep entries grouped together. Please try and keep to the format of the storybook while posting your work, and always remember to spell check.

The Beta Dream becomes Reality

The tank was cold and alone, and the small beta swam around in confusion. The walls were all so close. Then came the net. It scared the small fish, and it hid near the bottom of the bowl, but it was too close.

The next thing the fish knew it was being placed in a big open place. The fish didn't know what to do, but there was the person leaning in, telling it that everything was going to be okay and soon it would not be alone. That soothed the poor fish, it would soon be okay. Though at the moment it was still feeling lost and alone.

Looking up at the figure out of the water, it nodded a little. Then it was touched by the human, but it wasn't like the net. It had changed! The fish looked down and gasped, it had hands now. Hands! It could touch things. The fish looked at the figure and managed to speak. "Who am I?"

Oh the magic human knew, it said that its name was Gnatty and it would find a human to care for it and give it a name. Life was changing for the beta. Soon there were others, many others around. Life was forming and blooming in the tank. Gnatty had been right. Things had gotten so much better.

Now beta from all around. All kinds all races and all ages come to Gnatty's Beta HQ. They know it is safe, that they will be loved by humans that want them. The beta dream was a reality.

"The Meeting"

Tiara was resting among the sea bed. She had just taken a long swift swim all throughout the kelp fields. She now was sitting among the same fields that she had run among. She was a little tired, but not all that much. She was a free spirited and playful beta, and she had her pony-esk nature, and it was very apparent. She ran, she was majestic, but she could always turn hostile on a brinks notice and turn the situation to her favor.

The sun bathed on her purple body and her glittery scales seemed to light up under the light. She was, by other's standards, a most beautiful fish. She ate up all the attention, she loved basking in their glory for her. She was spoiled to a degree, and in this sense she was also a snob.

A little further up the field, tiara's glittering scales caught the attention of another beta, a male beta. He looked at her from a distance. He could immediately tell she was a beta-taur of sorts. After all his mother was a taur, and so was his sister. He himself came from royalty, but he had not acquired either of his parents gifts. He didn inherit the butterfly shaped birth markings from his mother, and that was pretty much it.

He was born into a prism of color. He was several different colors, and if one looked close enough, you would even assume his scales were shaped like the butterflies one would see if they broke the surface of the water. He lived in the kingdom that was hidden by the darkness of the water. His father, Bluey, was a kind and gently king, who like his... affairs.

His father was neither mated nor planned to be, but Bluey made sure he had a large family. Charles was not an only child, and he and his sister were not the only litter that Bluey had fathered.

Charles was taking a break from his daily studies, when he spotted the glittering water so he started to swim out near Tiara. The closer he got the more he fell in love. Her beauty was remarkable. He slowly gulped as he worked up the courage to speak to her. He had not gained the out going nature his father displayed from day to day.

"It's a beautiful day out here isn't it?" He spoke with some strange wisdom. When in doubt talk of the weather.

Tiara looked up opening her eyes from the nap she had slowly started to take. The beta she spotted was not at all something she would consider to be be beautiful, but he was not an ugly beta either. He also appeared and seemed to be of wealth or some such. She couldn't place it. This had her mesmerized and she wanted to know more.

"Yes it is. I decided to go for a swim, and thought I would take a nap in this field under the sun." She flicked her dorsal fin, making it shimmer slightly, she was all to amused when Charles blushed at this sight.


Charles nodded, trying to look away from this vain attempt of getting attention. "Well it must not be wise to be out here all by yourself." His face was beginning to take on a new shade of pink.


"Aw thats cute..." Tiara said playfully. "You think a big girl cant take care of herself."


"No no... its not that. I just..." He blushed and looked down.

"Its ok... I haven't really been a nice fish just now. Lets start over. My name is Tiara, of the Pepper Berry line." She bowed her head as she spoke.


Charles all but amused that this beta knew her lineage so well. Charles took his turn as he bowed. "My name is Fabulous Charles. Born into Royal blood by King Bluey, mothered by Fluttershy. Putting me in the lineage of Fluttershy."

These very words had caught Tiara's attention completely. Not only was this beta of the same tribe as she, though he barely showed any proof, he was also one of the many children of the king himself. "I had now idea your majesty." She said bowing once more.


"Its quite alright. Little know of me. I tend to keep a low profile..." He sighed as he swam up to her closer. "Would you... like..."


There was no time for him to finish. Tiara spotted his affection to her, and she did like him, a little bit. Whether for fame or fortune, or pure affection, she felt it back. She nuzzled up against him.

Charles just blushed before returning the act of affection. After serveral minuets of this, and some rolling, Blue got up from the sea bed and smiled. "Would you like to join me at the castle... we are having a sort of festival..." He spoke slowly, hoping she would not say no.

Tiara nodded, blushing as well. "Oh yes, I would really like that."


Charles smiled and got excited. "Its going to be so much fun. I have never had guests over... just... stick with me kay? Wouldnt want you to get lost or anything."


Tiara nodded and she pushed herself up against the side of Charles, as if they were holding hands. Together, in this very fashion, the two swam further out into the sea bed, and over a sandy dune. At the top of the dune one could see where the castle was. The water darkened towards the base of the area, but the top pike of the castle was clearly visible. It appeared as if it was carved from a giant pearl

"Its... so beautiful." She said just staring at it. She couldn't look away. She just stared in amazement. "And you live in there. I cant believe it, you cant be serious." She looked to her new friends who simple nodded/

To Charles, this castle was an everyday occurrence. It didn't surprise him at all, for this was home. He slowly swam the two down the sandy dune, that seemed to stretch on forever. Tiara was getting worried, as the the deeper they had gotten, the darker it became. It wouldn't be long until she wouldn't be able to see.

Just before she was about to say something, a small floating light seemed to have appeared before her very eyes. Then another one in the distance, and then another. She stood motionless, staring at what seemed to be stars that were just lighting up all around them. Charles was highly amused by the look on her face.

"Its Biouminescence." He spoke in a whisper. "The algy reacts to our body heat and lights up. We can see just fine." As the two swam their seemed to be a trail of glowing light behind them. From afar it would seem like a specter was moving about the water.

Finally reaching the front of the castle, Charles bowed, in respect letting Tiara swim through the front opening first. She slowly made her way through. Charles swam in after her. The lights out side going out at the absence of heat.

Of airforce duty, happily
Swimming above them all.
Or maybe she's like ArynLight,
And handy with a pen.
Her art would shine from sea to sea.
But maybe, then again...
She could be like Miss BuffyNick
The queen of Betaworld
Without her, there could be no fish
so bright and striped and swirled!
So many staff, so many fish
Who could our beta be?
My hope, though it may be in vain,
Is that the fish is me

"Untitled"

He can feel it stalking him, lurking in the seaweed and kelp that hovered around him. The water’s current shifting the foliage this way and that, movement all around him. It was that particular movement that caught Rave’s eye though, the slither creepy shift of shadow and mass amongst the greenery that seemed just out of place enough to bring about a sting of panic. He was being hunted. By what, he didn’t know, though whatever it was it couldn’t be good with the way it twisted and coiled about. Perhaps he was being silly though, he was in the Beta tanks so what could have snuck in that could be so foul as to attack an innocent staff member? Rave puffed up his chest, unconsciously trying to make himself look larger. Maybe if this thing thought that he was a bigger less…uke like beta it would leave him alone.

He’d been spotted, lurking and stalking his prey through the underwater forests of the beta tank. Yes, he had spotted this one a long time ago and had his eyes upon it since then. Now, however, was the time to strike. The beta was by himself, hopelessly alone amongst the kelp and algae that hovered about. Not a soul could save him, oh no, this was too good of a moment. A wicked serpetine smile crept upon his lips as he watched the beta try to inflate himself to a larger side. How foolish it was to try and intimidate him, he couldn’t be scared away from his prey that easily. Any moment now, he would strike, and it would all be over.

Rave glanced around, the movements have stopped for now and he allowed himself a breath of relief. Whatever it was had left, had gone away to leave him alone. Ears twitching in his left over nervousness of being stalked, a laugh escaping his lips. How silly he was for thinking that something was actually following him, there was nothing that would do such a thing in these tanks, not to him. Not with Kishara around to protect him. He realized as the black shadow fell over him that he had spoken too soon, and with horror he turned to face his doom.

Yes, his prey had at last dropped all guard. Foolish little beta thinking himself safe amongst these waters. He sprung, rising up above the beta with a triumphant laugh. “BOHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!” Arms wrapping tightly around the squirming beta, ignoring all protests as he hugged them close together with his eight sucker-covered tentacles.

Fear had hammered through Rave as the arms twisted around him, holding him tightly against his attacker. Even as the laugh sounded from the form, Rave tried desperately to get away. Things slowly started to dawn on Rave though as the form of the laugh sunk in. Bohahahahaha? What kind of laugh was that for an evil, tank dwelling beast? Annoyance and relief managed to mix together all at once on Rave’s face as he stared up at Kishara who beamed winningly down at him. Kishara crossed his arms over his chest in an X shape, hands bent almost claw-like as he repeated the laugh once more.

“BOHAHAHAHAH-“ His victory had been cut off as his prey smacked kelp into his face, and the vicious Kishara could only pout as his uke prey stared at him. “What?”

“You arse.”

There’s a place I know, not far from here.
Dive into the pool and swim down deep.
Pass the seaweed vines and simmering rocks.
You’ll come upon a wonderful place.

Look at the nursery, fill with bouncing, bubbling eggs.
With happy awaiting parents and owners,
Who dream of the babies to come.

Next, visit the play pen.
Where the fry play all day long.
Owners planning their futures
And fish waiting in the wing for future lovers.

On to the tanks, where the betas flaunt,
With their colors, sparkles, and items.
Don’t forget the newly evolved,
Having fun with their mermaid bodies.

Let’s visit Rave, with Kisha by his side.
Rolling the dice for our breeding,
And busy with make-overs.
While Kisha works to pretty those that Rave release.

Come watch Aryn,
As she over works herself.
With events and items,
Up to her head.

Now, to Gnatty,
Who rules them all.
Obey the Lieutenant or
You’ll end your fate.
