Grip of Death Solaris Lunarena Grip of Death PhaedraMcSpiffy Deformography Ugh! Not these loons again... Crack a dictionary, folks. Learn the meaning of the word "genocide." You too, PETA.I see this as dehumanization of people who have actually been through attempted and completed genocide. If I were a Holocaust survivor, I would bomb that s**t (or maybe just send them an angry letter...). I used to be really radical in my vegetarianism and I honestly believed that slaughterhouses were comparable to concentration camps. Then, I started to realize that PETA was doing the same dehumanizing, insulting, ridiculous s**t as the lifers and I've had a problem with them ever since. It still bothers me that I accepted their meat-holocaust comparisons, though. Lots of organizations can creatively use a loaded term to advance their agendas. >.< But the more outrageous it sounds, the more ridiculous the organization tends to look, too. Peta sucks, just because omnivores see its so mainstream does not mean that it represents all of vegetarianism and veganism. I go to a community of people that are vegan but most of them do not affiliate, do not support, and actually detest Peta for a number of reasons. I wonder though, if animals don't go through such a bad deal, though, I wonder how many people would like to reincarnate into a "food" animal for their next life. That sounds like so much fun, can't wait to go on THAT rollercoaster! wink xD I can see it now. "Wow! Look at all this free food! -munchmunch- Mmm...Delicious. And what's that? This is Japan! And they're....Massaging me? O_o' And I'm a cow? Wow! Cows are sacred in Jap-! *Gunshot in head*"
-horrible horrible person, shot in the face- Oftentimes, the myths are confused with the Reality. >> That was a Kobe Beef joke. Cows get the best treatment in the world.

I wonder if the cow would agree with you. As noble as pro-choice is concerning the right for human choice of bodily autonomy, I see a flaw that it is short-sided when it comes to considering non-human bodily autonomy, as well as the environmental consequences for human breeding/consumption. The Carol J. Adam's books like "The Pornography of Meat", illustrate parallels between women's oppression and animal oppression. There's more related to each other than one would think. I know what I'm saying is very unpopular, but godamned it it *had* to be said. >.<

Honestly, the more pro-choice I got, the less radical about being a vegetarian I became. I saw the pro-life propaganda and compred it to PETA, and it made me re-think a lot. For instance, people used to argue with me saying that it was okay to kill animals because they were not sentient. I, not fully understanding the word, argued that they are. Now, I don't think that an animal is as sentient as a human being. We are on a level of consciousness and thinking that no other creatures seem to be on. However I do think that they are able to perceive pain and think on some level and I don't wish to harm any living thing. So I don't eat meat. But I don't think that the rights of an animal are above or even equal to those of a human, so I don't think it's right to make eating meat illegal or anything like that.
I do, however, sort of see the comparison. Meat is deeply linked with masculinity in our culture. Look at any commercial for steak or Chunky soup or fast food. Who are these ads directed towards? Men. And all of them promote the idea that meat makes macho. If you eat a salad, you're like a woman, and being a woman is the worst thing you could possibly be!
Also.... As much as I beleive that an animal is not the same as a human.... I can't suspend or deny my disgust at the way animals are bred. There is a reason I compare a lack of reproductive rights to the life of a breeding sow: It's atrocious.
