Annaka Kit is the ultimate people’s person. She listens extremely well, has an answer to every problem (or so she thinks), and gives excellent advice (or so she convinced herself). She is very confident and energetic. She is willing to do whatever it takes to make it to the top and make a lasting impression, but she hesitates often and tries to consider all outcomes. She is willing to do every job no matter how menial or downgrading it will be. Annaka handles stress very well and will not crack under pressure. Once she makes up her mind, it is hard to make her budge. She is easily nervous about performances. If she has done the routine before in front of people, she is fine but if it has a new setting or routine then she will freeze up and potentially break down. She dances extremely well when no one (that she knows of) is watching her do so. She is angered easily and has a comforting air about her. She wishes for a better respect of acrobatics and the dancing arts. Her biggest pet peeve is people who are snooty and feel that they are above others.

Annaka Kit is from 19th century France. She grew up what would be middle to lower class. Her mother made plenty of money for being the Prima Donna of the Opera House, but her father was a strolling player. There were cruel kings and dying poor. She led a better life when at the opera house than she did fleeting her and there for her life with the strolling players and gypsies.

Annaka Kit worked hard most of her childhood. Renee, her mother and Prima Donna at L’Opera du Soleil, loathed her daughter for being so plain and “ugly.” Taking pity on his daughter, Cleo taught his daughter everything he knew about singing, dancing, and being a contortionist. Annaka then enrolled in the Opera to be part of the Ballet and Pointe dancers to make her mother love her again. Renee convinced everyone that Annaka was no more than a street urchin that she took pity on. Annaka worked harder than any other girl and was getting some solos but not enough to impress her mother. The one thing Annaka could do was to audition with the best Pointe student, Cristine.

Cristine had a big ego and wasn’t about to let a Street Urchin scum beat her so she agreed knowing full well that She should get the part as Lead Soloist. Unfortunately, Cristine was also lazy and never took care of her shoes herself. She forgot to check the shoes before putting them on. A stitch was loose making Cristine fall into Annaka doing a Fouetté. The shoes had wooden blacks in them causing a severe blow to Cristine’s head, knocking Cristine out cold. Never recovering Cristine died presumably by the blow to her head. Witnesses later came forward saying they saw Annaka sabotaging the shoes to make sure that Annaka got the lead part.

Annaka fled with her father and the gypsies far away from Paris and traveled the French countryside instead. Annaka spent two years learning other forms of dances in the towns that she visited and made small change by dancing for the crowds. One day the gypsies got word of the Legendary Cirque du Coeur Torve was in town. Annaka wanted to join them after seeing the acts that they had. It seemed like a lot of fun and hard work, both of which she was willing to do. She was reluctant to run off but her father urged her to goso she would see more of the world and learn more. He also wanted ehr to have a better life than having to sneak around. She bid Au Revoir to her father and gypsy family and said “Salut” to her new life with The Cirque du Coeur Torve.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_ballet_terms

Annaka is skilled in the dancing arts. Annaka was trained by the teachers in the Ballet school for L'Opera du Soleil. After she had her terrible "mishap" with those in L'Opera she left with the gypsies and traveling players. As they traveled town to town she learned native dances, belly dancing and a new one for when everyone is really drunk, a dance involving very little clothing. She has gotten very good and was paid from deep pockets for such lustful dancing. Of course she had her standards and never stripped but then again she never really had a lot of clothes on most of the time.

Change over time:

Carnie: Annaka will cook and clean clothing to help out around camp. She does have muscles but not enough to help with heavy lifting. She would readily agree to help out one of the castmembers if it got her on stage. She'd even attract people to see Cirque using her charms and sparkling body. She'll work on her dancing and using her skin to make all eyes drawn to her. An act would include some of the veiled dancing with the lights on her. She would have many twirls and spins that makes the veils and cloth flow and her skin sparkle the spins and turns end in an arabesque or some outrageous balance.

Castmember: Annaka will incoperate more ballet into her act and go after some partner acts. She would love to do her dancing with another performer. It makes the whole act mroe enjoyable for the audience and her. She'd take on an apprentence if she ever needed to.

Headliner: She would go for more interesting acts to keep he fans hers. This would include dancing on high ropes, moving objects, and doing flips and turns in midair landing in splits. She would get a bit snobbish and not want to do any acts with anyone lower than her but her ideas would soon change as she looks at herself.

Anyhigher than that: She'd be AMAZED!

Critiquing is now OPEN!

Help away!

Alright! Here we go! Please keep in mind this is all constructive criticism!

First I want to say, I really like her history. I believe her personality needs to be expanded, such as why does she have an answer to every problem? Is there anything in her past that contributed to habits or anything she may emanate?

The one thing that really sticks out to me is her skills section. It's incredibly vague, and almost a little boring! She's a ballet dancer? That's not really anything insanely exciting for a Circus to want to show. Belly dancing is cool, but what will set her apart from other belly dancers? What atmosphere or skills will she create to capture the audience?

I believe my suggestion for a dance of veils would be extremely appropriate. If she has spent time with gypsies, why not be inspired by Esmeralda? Let this character break free, as a suggestion I'm going to put out there the idea of the nude body. Like I've said "stripping" is a coarse word used for a very exotic and complicated dance. It's athletic, requires immense amounts of concentration, and the ability to create allure.

There is such a thing as tasteful and artistic nudity, I mentioned in the thread body art, which is where you paint your nude body so that most of the detail is fairly hidden. Veil and scarf manipulation, complicated poses and dances, acrobatics, and gymnastics could all be incorporated into your concept. Give details about exactly what she could do for shows (various skills), when you do decide on a talent. I am in no means pushing you to do the nudity or anything, it is just an idea, there are many more things dancing can expand into.

Since I was rushed yesterday I forgot to add something @@; ... Sorry! How will she be developing at the Cirque, what changes may overtake her personality, appearance, or skills? The ending of her history also seems a little iffy to me, though the rest is really creative. The Cirque randomly appears, right? Well that wouldn't just make them legendary, but even mythical. Was she aware that she'd probably never get to see her father or adopted family group again? Did she have any inner conflict? The most interesting part about a character are the inner machinations of their mind, because without those they have no thought and thus no personality.

It's sounding really good! I do really like her history. A few things:

Does she have any other weaknesses? For example, does she have a fear of being sabotaged after that incident with the ballet? Does that come back to haunt her? Does she prefer one style of dance over the other? How would she feel about doing something a bit more risqué than ballet?

I'd say just expand on her personality a bit more. Something you could do to help that would be self-RP a scenario with her. Plan out her reactions, her feelings. It'll help you get a better sense of the character. That's what I do when I have a new OC.

I really like her though and I think she'd be really fun to RP with! =)

Thanks Were! I think I will do the self RP. I've wanted to to expand her but never got around to it...

SO I need to:
get some more weaknesses
and figure her out more

Hi! 8D

First of all, so far the comments from Uennie are double-repeated here. She had excellent points. I might repeat some of her stuff, but I'm just flowing and ... bear with me.

• The base concept, while good doesn't seem circusy enough. Why flip from performing in opera houses, etc... to the gutter of a circus (no offense, my fellow carnies); she seems far to shining and pure for the freak show and not enough fire, strong man, animals, sword swallowing for the circus. I'm not saying you can't work with this concept- oh no, it's just that you haven't pushed through enough to find your performer.

Consider, for a moment-

* Exotic forms of dance, adding props, adding danger elements
* Dancing with snakes, chains with fire at the end, on water or ice
* dancing on rope- high above audience, blades, fire, sharks, llamas
* take the ballet element, maybe the piroettes over chainsaws or glass or.... a bed of roses without touching a single petal ZOMG

Just remember, this ISNT the average stage. People pay good money (or sneak in) to see the freaks, the gorgeous half-naked undulating women, and the dare devils risking life and limb for their pleasure. You're entertaining the rough crowd, the peasants ... the street thugs. ;D Or kids, mom, and dad... equally bloodthirsty.

o_O; Crap, hope that helped/made sense... Everything else seemed pretty good so far.

Ok, this just came to me cause I was thinking more of the naked thing Uennie suggested... just throwing it out there but what if something happened and like... her skin is transparent and something inside glows (like blood streams or bones) so in the stage she like... strips and around the final piece the lights go out and she's like... dancing skeleton/blood OR if you don't wanna go to weird, PAINT that glows. ;D Or jewelry, or tattoos.

Food for thought. Nomnomnomnom.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 26, 2008 6:00 pm

Ahh. Well I was thinking that sort of thing but I wasn't too sure about how to work it out.

hmm...what about places on her skin that sparkle when light hits them. Almost like gems but on her skin like a tattoo only born with it?

I totally understand. I need to make the acts exciting and fresh. I was going for a rope sort of thing but I thought it may be too trapeziae...

History in the Making
Annaka sat on her suitcase sighing. She didn’t know what to do. He father wanted her to go and be with Cirque but she didn’t want to leave her “family.” Sure most of them were nice but there were a few who made traveling difficult. Leo for instance liked to hide her shoes or pillow which made performing and sleeping hard. When on the road you needed your sleep because you never know when you would get to take a rest.

Annaka continued to think when Henry came up behind her and started to pull on her braids. “Haha! You can’t go to Cirque! They don’t want freakish dancers!” He laughed and jumped out of the way of her swatting hand.

“That’s not true! You don’t know if they want me or not!” She looked at him her eyes angry but behind them was a look of fear. He could be right. What if they didn’t want her? Where would she go? The family wouldn’t accept her back. Why would they. If she was going to abandon them once, why let her have the chance to do it to them again. Besides food was scarce and she was barely eating her meager rations that they could give out. “Besides they could use a dancer! And what’s better than a cancer who is just as good as an acrobat?” She stuck her tongue out at Henry.

He smiled as he walked on his hands. “Sure sure. You plannin on killing a star so that way they need to recruit?” He sneered at her with his impish grin on.

“No. I wouldn’t do such a thing!”

“Sure so that Christine incident was nothing but a figment of the lands’ imaginations?”

“It never happened like they all say!” She shouted as she tackled Henry. She didn’t get a punch in before the two were dragged off of each other by the leader Victor. He frowned at them both while keeping them an arms length apart.

“Vu know that ve do not accept such behavior!” He scolded.

“He started it!” Annaka cried glaring at the boy who was smiling all too evilly.

“I didn’t! She jumpeded me! She grabbed for me throat and everything, pa.” He said whining.

Victor released the two. “If either of ya start this again you’ll both be out of ‘ere.” He was dead serious. Fighting wasn’t the smartest thing to do when traveling. They couldn’t afford the broken bones and everyone needed to pitch in to get money and food.

She stormed away as the sun shone making her glow. She thought it made her pretty and people often looked, but when you're traveling as a fugitive, you want little attention as possible. She wrapped the shawl around her and went to Madame Piedboef.

"Madame?" She asked as she neared her cart, "Can I talk to you?"

"Of course child, What troubles you?" Asked the blind psychic, though she knew it was about leaving.

"I am wondering about going. I want to and I know it would be better for all of us with one less mouth to feed but what is your say? You know I always come to you for the best advice when mine makes me doubt." Her shawl was wrapped around her hands.

"You will be fine. You have our blood in your veins. You can dance like no other plus you have a few tricks that you know. You always want to help out with whatever you can. You will be missed but the Cirque would miss a jewel in its crown by not having you. You should go no harm will come from it. It is all good from what I can 'see.'" Madame Piedboef laughed at her own joke.

Annaka hugged the old woman and smiled. "Thank you. I'll go right away. I just wish my father was back but I do not know when he will be back and the Cirque could move before I even get to see it." She scurried away from the old woman's chuckles.

"She will have so much trouble but she will surely get through it." She said a** he went back to skinning the rabbit.
