Here is what I’ve been pondering.

I’ve been working on a Torchwood fan fiction. It’s one of those where the main characters are kind of an afterthought, and it mostly revolves around a new character and what happens to him or her. I like to keep my stories realistic and stick to the main storyline as much as I can.

But while I was working out the original character’s history, I had been watching some Torchwood episodes. And I was wondering how likely it might have been if I gave the REAL Jack Harkness a brother. Then the brother would have a son, and that son would have a daughter, which would be the new character. Making the real Jack her great uncle. I did the math and it should all work out logically.

Is that too outstanding and strange to be plausible in the Torchwood world? I don’t wanna come off as some Jack fan girl, which is why I’m wondering if it’s too far. I just thought that the Harkness connection may make her more tied to the show.

Give me your opinions. D= Yay or nay?

The only way to find out is to work on it, and see how it turns out. Often times one would get a really good idea, but when it reaches into writing it goes so flat the pages themselves couldn't hold together.
Try it out. See what happens.

Trust me. I can keep it going. But that doesn't really answer my question.

I figure if it gives the character more depth, or, really, more meaning, I say go for it. (Especially if you've taken the time to actually work out the logistics. ^_^) It doesn't seem like too much of a stretch that there may be more than one Harkness running around at one time somewhere in the world, and that your Harkness might have been related to the Real Jack Harkness.

Did I mention that I stopped making sense the moment I was born? redface

No, that made sense. xD Okay. I guess I'll do it then. .o. Long as I'm smart I should be able to keep it from being some "Mary Sue" story.

MARRY SUE?! WHERE?! *looks around frantic*
I know what you mean. As long as you stick to who the character's are, you are safe. And watch out for any relationship developing. Though, from what I've seen of Torchwood, I don't think you have to worry about a Marry Sue developing if she does have a relationship with one of the guys. Just as long as there's no radical change.
Hmmm. Maybe I should write a thing on, "How to avoid Marry Sue"

I've had that concern with two Harry Potter fan fics I wrote. First one I wasn't all that concern with because the main character I made had a romantic relationship with another made up character.
The second one I was walking a fine line. A VERY fine line. I had to have Severus threaten Harry with a year long detention to keep it away from becoming a Marry Sue.

Marry Sue. *Shudders.*

LOL. She's underage. xD But god that would be so hella funny. xD And I'll totally link this place. My art contest I'm gunna open this weekend is actually for the two characters, Finn and her schoolmate, Campbell (my account is named after Finn, cause I'm lazy).

La Fantome de le opera

I'm just sort of curious of how the timeline would go. It's present-day Torchwood, yeah? Gwen, Ianto, Tosh, Owen, the whole lot? It's documented that Captain Jack Harkness was born in sometime around the 51st century, he's stuck back around now because his teleporter (space hopper) isn't working. How would a brother get stuck back in time as well? I supposed the brother would be a Time-Agent, possibly looking for renegade Jack? But then he'd have to stay long enough to have his genes passed on....But then the problem arises of why he wouldn't be able to find Jack, with such technology from the future. If he found Jack, he'd bring him back to the Time-Agency, and if not, I doubt that he'd stay that long in that primitive time to raise a child.

But that's just my critiquing, go about as you please.
