So I just watched "The Daleks" and can officially say I've seen the first Doctor. I'm not sure I'm a fan of his. He's grumpy, childish and self centered. Still, it was a laugh to see people defeating Daleks by throwing rocks at them and jumping on their backs. Here's mud in your eye dalek.

William Hartnell, I like him. I didn't at first because he seemed so grumpy and irritable, though. I think I might be a little sad to see him regenerate (I've been watching from the beginning for the first time.)

Coalchar We need a pic of ol William Hartnell in here! biggrin Nice pic. Now...I'm a bit confused about his grandaughter, Susan. How old was she? The stories made her sound like she was 16 or something...

Angel of the Doctor Now...I'm a bit confused about his grandaughter, Susan. How old was she? The stories made her sound like she was 16 or something... Hard to say. Gallifreyans in general and Time Lords specifically judge age differntly than humans. For example, a Time Lord in his 90s would likely be considered to still be a teenager, and not even be finished with his academy training. I don't think the more common Gallifreyans had the same life span as a Time Lord though, even without the regenerating. Let's say that she's the equivalent of a 16 year old and just go with it.

At first, I wasn't a great fan. He was so mean! But then his mean-ness became childish and I started to enjoy watching his silly antics. (:

I was never really a fan of the first doctor or William Hartnell. Although I did like the character of the first doctor in the movie The Five Doctors, even though it wasn't the same actor.

I appreciate him for getting the series started. Honestly, without him would we even have all the wonderfulness that has followed? Admittedly there's a lot I appreaciate about the series that I don't see as much in him.
I've recently read the first two books in Rick Yancey's "Monstrumologist" series. The main character there kind of reminds me of Hartnel's doctor. The sort of interplay of brilliance with cluelessness about his own humanity.
