I thought I'd make my debut post here by showing you a little something that I wrote when half-asleep the other night. I'd appreciate comments or constructive critiques. Please, if you don't like the Snape/Hermione pairing, don't bother to comment just to tell me that you think it's disgusting, etc.
Hermione is, of course, OF AGE in this story, as it's set in 7th year (as I said, this is AU), and along with that and her use of the Time Turner, she'd be well over the age of consent, which is 17 in the Wizarding World.
Adult language, ahoy!
"God damn it..." he grumbled, and slammed his cloak down on his desk as he strode through his office, shoulders hunched.
"Idiotic boy... foolish girl...completely unbelievable... can't fathom any of this..."
Severus Snape was, surprisingly enough, very angry. As much as he tried to keep his calm, sometimes a situation proved a little bit too trying.
And today, he had been pushed just a little bit more past his limits than usual, and horror had ensued.
It had been a normal Advanced Potions Class - very few melting cauldrons, and mostly successful creations, until all Hell broke loose.
Weasley put in the chopped hawthorne too early, and when the contents of his cauldron turned a deep red instead of the desired pale green, Granger had been eager to help solve the problem. Too eager.
the failed brew splashed up, splattering her fingers and the backs of her hands, and Severus strode rapidly to their table as she gasped in surprised pain and stared down at her smoking hands in shock.
"Ronald!" she exclaimed, rounding on him in anger, eyes falshing.
"Wha-?" he was cut off by the arival of Severus, who looked mad enough to "accidently" let a few Unforgivables fly.
"Silence, Mister Weasley. You have done quite enough!" he hissed, and then he had her trembling hands in his own, and was whispering a wandless charm, lips nearly brushing her fingers.
the classroom was silent as everyone watched their gruff Professor appearing almost tender and gentle.
Slowly, the wounds on the backs of Hermione's hands faded away, as well as her pain.
He lowered her hands and let them go quickly, then met her eyes briefly, just long enough to judge her reation and ensure that she was in no more discomfort.
Hermione was baffled, and she blinked a few times, then chanced a small smile in his direction.
"T-thank you, Professor." she whispered, and he simply gave her a curt nod.
"Mister Weasley, would you care to explain why you added your hawthorne so early? were you trying to create a Caustic Potion? Perhaps you were hoping to cause Miss Granger severe, poisonous burns that can be fatal?"
His eyes were absolutely black and hardened with his rage, and Ron was white-faced in shock.
"No! I would never want to hurt Hermio-"
"Silence!" Severus roared. "Your inattentive idiocy has earned you one week of detentions with me. Starting tonight."
Ron swallowed hard, and Hermione watched with surprise.
Then, he was back to the front of the room, and class continued.
And now, class was over, and Severus was inside his office, pacing and grumbling as he tried to work out his remaining anger.
Miss Granger could have been killed, all due to one hormonal idiot who was too busy looking at the a** of the young lady standing in front of him to pay attentnion to the directions written on the board clearly before him.
What put him off most, however, was the fear that he had felt when Miss Granger had been hurt. Not fear for the trouble it would cause, or any criticism he woudl face for her injury, but a simple, base fear for her well-being. A fear that he would be unable to help her.
and this worried him greatly.
Severus Snape did not care about others. Not that deeply, anyway. And most certainly, he did not care about the know-it-all side-kick to Harry-bloody-Potter.
Yet, the fear, and now relief, were certainly real. That could not be denied.
As much as he wanted to simply put the experience from hsi mind and give it no more though, he knew it was unlikely to happen.
How unfortunate.
He should, Severus supposed, sit down and give this some true, deep though. there must be a reason, a real and logical reason, for his feelings and emotions.
And while he was aware of one obvious cause, he refused to consider it.
There was simply no way that he cared for the girl.
No way at all.
After all, just because they had been working together recently in his lab on a potion to help weaken the Dark lord, just because they had found good conversation in one another, did not mean that they were friends, and certainly did not mean he was developing feelings for her.
Even if she was of age now...
He choked on the air he was breathing, and wheezed.
Where had that thought come from?!
With a long groan, Severus walked to his bedroom, grabbing a headache releiving potion on his way.
It was time to take a very long nap.
