December 6 is St. Nicholas's Day, the day on which many European folks do their gift exchanging rather than during Hanukkah or on December 25. Today also happens to be the birthday of Henry of Windsor, Henry Plantagenet, who ruled England from his infancy as Henry VI. He was a great man, but not the best of kings, probably because his advisors were such opportunists for the most part. He was the son of Henry V, a powerful warrior king.

October 31 is Reformation Day.
That day is celebrated in memory of the "Thesenanschlag" (don't know how to translate) in Wittenberg. Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses about adulgences and penitence to the door of the castle church in Wittemberg, what sparked the Reformation.
