Our band director said we needed more low brass instruments in our band, and he particularly wanted a woodwind or a brass instrument to switch.
Since I am a flutist, I've been wondering if I should switch, (and if I did, I would to French Horn). But since I'm joining Marching Band for next year, I need to play flute in that because we only have two piccolos.

It kinda depends on a few questions like: are you a good french horn player? or do you like your band director enough to switch? or do you have enough time to play both flute and french horn?

In the end, it all comes down to your own personal choice.

Basically what spartan27583 said. I suppose it would work for you to switch to french horn. You can practice buzzing your lips and try playing it to see if you like it first.
