Physical Description: Kaneakira is rather lanky looking, currently at the end of a growth spurt, with brown hair and eyes highlighted by his clear, pale skin. He has thin and finely crafted features and is considered handsome, even though he is still several years from full adulthood.
Personality: Kaneakira is intelligent and knows it; he suffers from no lack of confidence. He has always been proud and ambitious, although he has not done much to receive any special benefits. He is patient and willing to bide his time (although how patient has yet to be seen, as he is young and still lacking in experience). He can be a bit rash when it comes to making decisions and has a hot temper, although he often waits to extract vengeance instead of taking it immediately. He also enjoys having a good time and is interested in “the ladies” although he is not married.
History: Kaneakira was born in early spring of 914 as one of the royal children, though not next in line for the throne. He grew up in the court with his siblings, surrounded by the diplomacy and intrigue that naturally followed the imperial family. He showed a keen intellect from when he was a small child, one that was nurtured by his tutors. He was always good with people, being both engaging and subtly manipulative. He became accustomed to receiving whatever he wanted, either by default of his birth or by his own conniving. Kaneakira enjoys positions of leadership and is currently very resentful of the newly reaffirmed fact that his birth has made him distinctly subordinate to his younger half-brother.Name:Kiyohara no Akisada

Physical Description: Akisada has been making a living and a place for himself in the world with his strength his whole life, so it is only fitting that his frame is solid and completely covered with muscle. He is scarred in many places from battle, the most notable being a deep discolored cut across his cheek and just below his right eye from a blow that almost blinded him and a sharply hooked nose from a past break. He is tall with plainly cut thick hair that matches his dark eyes eerily well. Despite his battleworn appearance, it is still easy to tell how he was once very different looking and how a different life might have left him less damaged.
Personality: Akisada is stern, serious from his training and lifestyle, and immensely dedicated to the daughter of his previous Lord. He sees himself as her protecter and her as something akin to the child he never had. In private with her he is less rough than he is otherwise and much gentler, regardless of whether she needs him to be so or not. It is more for his sake than hers, and he knows it. He lets down his guard occasionally and for much shorter periods of time around some of the other people he knows as well, though its not the same sort of familial relaxation as he enters around Shoume. He is concious of his position and the responsibilities it entails and of the image he needs to uphold. There is a reason why he tends to avoid drink...
History: Akisada began his adult life working for Lord Taira no Masakado and ended up as one of his generals. He now works for Taira's daughter, acting as her bodyguard and warrior and overseeing the others who also owe their livelihoods to her. Eh. My scanner kinda messed up both pictures. = Not too happy about that...

Name: Taira no Shoume
Age: 21

Hair: Very dark green/greenish-black
Eyes: Violet
Looks: Slender in bone, she has not much fat anywhere but her curves, which are rather ample. Oval face with a rounded, stubborn chin. Eyes usually look rather heavy-lidded and with her lips in a firm line, she tends to look aloof and rather haughty (apparently, this holds even when she blushes). Several faint scars on several places on her body.
Personality: She has a notably "chilly" aura and is very subdued, but below this she has an incredible temper. She controls it, and her actions, though, with the precision and cool patience of someone who has learned that to rush into battle with emotions swelling is a bad thing.
Background: Daughter of Taira no Masakado, she grew up in the north, her mother, Minamoto no Shou, having died in childbirth. Her father loved her above all else, and staged a rebellion to put himself as emperor and so give his daughter the place he thought she deserved. Shoume was, understandably, not at all averse to this idea. Her father also taught her the way of the sword, which ultimately led to the loss of her right arm during the same battle in his rebellion in which Taira no Masakado died.
Having only participated in the battle at the fringes, she was back at the camp getting a wound taken care of when news of her father's death at the hands of his own cousin and a Fujiwara got back to the camp. Enraged, Shoume rushed back to the battlefield and found her father's cousin, Sadamori, who was still by the fallen, headless body, and fought him. She killed him, but also lost her arm there.
At his funeral, she made a promise to fulfill his ambition and wish to put her in the position she deserved, and she soon, after having healed and gotten used to fighting with her left hand, leaves for court, not only to become an imperial princess, but to kill the second of her father's killers; Fujiwara no Hidesato.
Notes: Right arm missing from shortly above the elbow. She play/ed the biwa.
Name(s): Rei/Kawai no Momitaka
Age: 19
Sex: Female
Race: Human
Height: 1.50 cm (5')
Hair: Very dark red
Eyes: Chestnut brown
Looks: With being so short, looks very compact, but it's all muscle. Small-breasted, though rather round hips. Hair is cut neatly straight at below the shoulderblades, with severely straight cut bangs just below the eyebrows. Her hair, though, is usually up in a topknot or other suitably male hairstyle, so it's very seldom seen down, though even then Momitaka's overall image and society's views would hinder an automatic assumption of "female".
Background: Comes from a farmer family, left it with her sister to gain martial arts and weapons training, started to cross-dress at an early age to accomplish this and has now ended up as samurai, hired into the service of Taira no Shoume through her general (first recruited during the rebellion to act as extra guard for Taira no Shoume).
Having spent most of her life impersonating a man, Rei is more comfortable with the male name she has assumed, Momitaka, though let's her twin sister use Rei if she prefers to. Well proficient in both sword and bow, Momitaka prefers using a bow from horseback, but uses both a daichi and kodachi very well, and despite being slower than Rai, is notably quick-draw with the kodachi.
Very comfortable in male clothes, and while she doesn't actively dislike the female kimono, she definitely prefers the male version, which is both a result of the long time spent in them, the "privilege" it gives her, and their gift comparative ease of movement.
She is, though, rather conflicted about the "right place and role" of a woman in society, as she's both slightly contemptous of the seemingly "vapidness" of at least the general noble lady and the insignificance of a woman generally, but also very enchanted with the delicate image (noble) women are taught, and their skills in various artistical pursuits. Has a love of music and singing, but could only sing fit to wake the dead, and she has no patience for learning any instrument. (She seems to have a budding skill in poetry, though, as that is her favourite way of training reading and writing.)
(The name of Kawai no was given to Rei and Rai recently by Taira no Shoume, just before they arrived at the court in Kyoto, to follow the small gift of land and status.)

Hair: Very dark red
Hair Style: Short, and a little messy, with a choppy cut in the front for the bangs, and long down to between her shoulderblades. She did it herself with a small blade, deciding it made her look more like a boy.
Complexion: Fair
Appearance: Rai was always a little weaker than her sister, but she was certainly able to make up for it in speed. She too was rather on the flat side, though unlike Rei she seemed to almost completely lack hips. Fortunately, her grey kimono over the thinner white, and black Hakama hide the rest. Her geta were rather worn, but that didn't matter; they were sturdy, and got her from place to place. She carries her two kodachi in her obi, and wears a rather battered backpack in which she carries some supplies, and her Kappa.
Likes: Her sword, Rei, dressing like a man, most kind of fish, reading, and miso.
Dislikes: Wearing women's clothes, going for any extended period of time without seeing her sister, being underestimated, and octopus.
Backround: The younger of the twins by about 3 minutes, she always wanted to be with her sister. After they decided to leave home, she was a little bit lost, but quickly gathered a new sense of herself once they started training.
She was very fast on her feet, if not quite as muscular as most people would need to be, so it balanced a bit. Aside from that, she trained extensively with two kodachi instead of the one full length. She was really more comfortable cross dressing, mostly because they've done it for so long. She also definatley enjoys the additional mobility. Rai was fairly decent at playing the part, though was usually perceived as weak from "his" somewhat wispy appearance; a gross misconception.
