At her words, his hesitance froze, and his gaze locked on the innocently glinting mirror still hanging, mouth set in a grim line. He didn't know how the goddess knew about his younger sister, but she was right. His own doubts didn't matter in this; he needed to be able to take care of Sydni, and to do that he needed to become strong enough. And this god, this bloody, twisted god, promised power and more if he accepted its graces.

He'd do anything to protect her.

"You are right."

Startingly, he reached for the necklace, hand shakily grasping onto it and retrieving it from the cords of shadows that held it aloft. Upon closer inspection the silver gilding the edges of the mirror had undertones of murky red, as if the silver was merely paint atop it. At his acceptance, the dark being gave a sibilant chuckle of approval, dissipating until all that was left was Valeriu's own natural shadow reflected against the floor. Upon pulling the chain over his head, the mirror settled on his chest like a heavy, chilly weight - right over where his heart was, and he could almost swear that the object was pulsing with a beat that matched his own.

And for a brief, shattered moment, he saw. It was like he was taken to that dark world again; and the woman's shop was no longer filled with the lively plants. Everything was broken, the glass windows smashed and cracked, death haunting every corner of the dim room. In his peripheral vision he could see the streets outside; see the carnage that lay waste out there, the bleached skulls, the bloody sky, sights too horrifying to acknowledge or imagine.

Even he wasn't alive.

And then he was back as if time hadn't passed, and the shop was right again in his eyes, and everything was normal. But the glimpse of that world stayed reflected in his eyes, and he blinked rapidly to dispel the image, jaw tight. He knew what he was getting into.

He gave the goddess a jerky bow of thanks, unsettled but as composed as he could get himself at the moment.

"Thank you, Mee'ss," surprisingly, he still had voice enough to speak, "for taking the time to explain to me v'hat ee's going on." He hated the fact that this had ruined her day - he'd never meant to bring such unpleasantness into her shop. And he needed time to digest this, even though he doubted all the time that eternity could give would never be enough. "You have my gratee'tude. Ee'f there ee's nothing else to speak of, I v'ee'll leave you ee'n peace now."

Persy continued to stare at the spot where the boy's god had been, thoughts running through her mind with no comprehension whatsoever. Had she really been right to let that boy jump into the Game like that? Should she really have manipulated him so? Granted, she'd been playing on a bluff, having no idea of the sibling's worth, but now that it had worked so well, she began to wonder if maybe she should have used other words.

Either way, it was too late to back down now.

"...Leaving would be best," she calmly murmured, her eyes never leaving the spot where the shadows had dissipated. "And just be careful, kid. There's a lot of stuff to worry about out there." Including himself, as it were.

With a nod, he took her words to heart. There was more than just the adult world to defend against now - a whole new realm of gods and, and magic maybe, or whatever came with gods. His life just became a lot more dangerous, and a lot more confused.

But he didn't have the time to figure it out right now; he had work to finish before returning home. He could stress once the job was done. Hitching his backpack more onto his shoulder, he headed to the door of the shop, tail swishing along behind him. Conscience paused him at the exit, though, turning to look back at her briefly.

"Thank you, truly. Ee'f, ee'f you ever need help ee'n the future, I'd be more than happy to do so." He felt somewhat sheepish at the boldness of his words - he was still a child, so he couldn't do much to help. Still...he knew he owed her one for today. In seriousness, he added, "I am good at manual labor. Sweeping, cooking, building, lots of things."

The moment becoming too awkward again, he bid a quick good bye, hurriedly stepping out into the cold, none-too-clean air of the city, thoughts of gods troubling his mind and foreshadowing prickling his soul.
