Talon-chan At what point do we draw a line between a woman's right to control her body, and protecting her fetus? Why is taking a barbituate jail-worthy, but not drinking a glass of alchol or eating cheeseburgers? Well, if abortion were illegal, things like drinking, smoking, and jumping on a trampoline while pregnant would probably count as child endangerment or even child abuse.

If this is murder, a pregnant woman drinking coffee or caffeine should be charged with child abuse.
If she ODed, she either needs to be charged for drug abuse or sent to a mental institute for trying to kill herself. For Christ's sake.
What she did was not right, but that doesn't mean she should even get such a long conviction. A rapist will get 3 - 6 years for ruining someone's life, and someone who ODs on drugs and killed her unborn child gets 26 years?
Well, ladies, that is just another example of how we are not equal. Fetuses > Women, obviously.

And I do not see how pro-lifers don't understand that this necessarily follows rules that place a fetus's worth above the woman who carries it. Even worse, I don't know how they can't see that this sort of extreme restriction of women for the sake of a fetus (that no man is subject to, and that no woman is subject to for her born children) isn't exceptionally misogynistic.

Are you kidding me? Women have no worth compared to a fetus that may be a male (unless its a gay male fetus, obviously) some day! Now shut up woman and go make me a sammich! mad lol ?

My uncle is a lawyer. He once defended a man who, in a drug-induced craze, killed someone. He was going to have 20 years, but my uncle managed to only give him 10.
A woman, in a possibly suicidal mindset, ODs on a drug, kills a fetus, and could get 26 years.
Even if the guy my uncle defended didn't get off, he'd have six years less than this woman.
War on Drugs bias? Likely. Misogynistic bias in the so-called judicial system? Even more likely.

She shouldn't have been doing those drugs in the first place, and if she didn't want the fetus she could have had an abortion. But 26 years... no.... 2-3 years maybe for using drugs without prescriptions but not the "Child Endangerment". Secondly, we don't have all of the story here. We don't know if she was just misusing drugs, accidently overdosed on the meds she was already taking currently, or was trying to get rid of the fetus. We need the whole story to make sense of the situation but the media probably won't give it to us.
Yes the judical system is screwed up. You can get more in prison for being at the scene of a crime such as murder or theft (or even just knowing the people who commited the act) than if you were the actual thief or murderer. You will get more time in prison for making a copy of a movie than someone who has raped, killed and beat 5 year old.
